While spending the summer at Middleburg College to pursue language studies, I experienced the somewhat occasional "tweak" of my lower back while exercising. The following morning, I called McDaniel Chiropractic, and they were able to see me that same afternoon. After a straightforward online new patient check-in, I arrived to a clean and well-equipped office set up. The entire staff was very welcoming, and the process of being seen was prompt. Great first impression all around. Dr. Jim introduced himself and took the time to get to know my medical history and my professional background as it related to my spinal health. This is another indicator for me of an attentive professional. Afterwards, he went to work. His techniques were very effective but gentle, and he explained himself the entire time. (In this way, I would recommend his practice for a first time patient looking to explore chiropractic care.) Having had experience with many other chiropractors, I knew this guy was good. He found and adjusted some of my stubborn and chronic trouble areas with ease, relative to other practitioners I have had. I sort of joked with him that he, "passed the test" because one particular adjustment I normally require often takes multiple tries to adjust. His skills took care of it quickly. They did the crown first as it was needed the most. It was quite a procedure and I am not overly fond of having dental work done because of being hurt in the past by other dentists. These dentists showed me on the x-rays where the problem was and talked to me on how they were going to do the procedure. The way they handled the novocaine and making sure I didn't feel anything was wonderful. They are really up-to-date on new and improved methods of dentistry. I went to the emergency room at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, NY on…read moreFriday, June 30, 2023, complaining of intense pain in my back. I was quickly taken to a room, then left alone for several minutes. A nurse came in to insert an IV, but I told her I have a history of being difficult to stick, so asked her to please put the IV in my hand. She immediately left and brought in another nurse, who listened to my concerns, but told me she had to try my arm first. After three unsuccessful attempts, and numerous complaints by me, my husband, and my mother, she brought in a paramedic, who was apparently the only other person capable of inserting an IV. When he came in, my husband calmly requested that he try it in my hand, making it clear that we know from past experience that is the only way to successfully put an IV in me. The paramedic immediately stood up and berated my husband. He immediately turned defensive and escalated the situation in an inexplicable way. The paramedic yelled at my husband, stating 'DO NOT TELL ME HOW TO DO MY JOB. I HAVE 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, AND I WILL NOT LISTEN TO YOU TELL ME HOW TO DO MY JOB.' To which my husband calmly said "I'm not telling you how to do your job, I'm telling you about my wife.' The paramedic yelled and said 'DO YOU WANT ME TO GET THE DOCTOR?' To which we obviously said yes. Instead of the doctor, another nurse came in and told us they have to use a tourniquet, to which we told her we know that and that's not what our complaint was. So, the paramedic came back in and tried again to stick me in the arm. It didn't work (as we knew it wouldn't). We told him to leave and he sent the other nurse back in. She was much kinder, but still attempted 4 more sticks before simply trying my hand. She gave up on the IV and just drew blood from my hand (which was a success, as we knew it would be). The doctor had come in previously and examined me for 1 minute, barely listening to anything I said. I went back for a CAT scan, then was brought back to the room and ignored for a while, as I'm writhing in agony. The doctor then came back in and said 'You have a kidney stone. It should pass on its own.' and started to walk back out without giving any more details. We practically had to stop her from walking away so we could ask questions. She told me the size of the stone and that I won't feel it pass. I asked for pain meds as I was in excruciating pain. She immediately responded with 'I don't prescribe opiods. Take ibuprofen.' I didn't ask for opiods, I asked for pain meds; there has to be something inbetween. So I asked how much ibuprofen to take and she said "I don't know, 400 mg. Whatever the normal dosage is. Just make sure you eat when you take it." Then she left. No empathy, no kindness, nothing. Also, as a side note, I asked for water when I walked in as I was quite thirsty; they said no one had the authority to give me water. I finally got some after asking 3 more times, at which point they were surprised no one had given me any yet. I am from out of state, so I spent the next day driving the 16 hours home, crying the entire way due to pain. I went to an urgent care in my home state yesterday and they were absolutely shocked at how I had been treated. They said it's standard protocol to give a toradol shot for the pain, a prescription for toradol, and a prescription for flomax to actually help pass the stone. They also were able to access my scan results from NY and told me I actually have two kidney stones and an inflamed kidney. I was only told about the one stone in Elizabethtown (they didn't say anything about the inflammation). The doctor in my home state was able to carefully walk me through my scan results, answer all questions, and told me I will indeed feel the stone passing. I am beyond disappointed in the treatment I received. I was not treated in a humane way and am traumatized from my experience of being stabbed 7 times to get an IV (I recognize I am absolutely a hard stick, but it's never taken more than 3 times, and it turns out the IV wasn't even necessary anyways). I honestly doubt the medical expertise of the doctor who treated me and would like to ensure no one else is ever treated that way. The doctor told me that was their third kidney stone patient of the day; I pity those poor souls who don't have access to a real, empathetic doctor who actually treats ailments in the commonly accepted manner. Between the aggressive paramedic and uncaring doctor, this was the most absurd experience I've ever had.

All three times, something intervened to save me from what I thought was the worst dental experience you could ever have any time. Then....it happened. I was in the chair with Dr.Abby Gaughan who had just examined my tooth, and I could no longer have a different outcome. It was root canal time, and it was just my luck that she could do it right then! I was caught off guard for sure. I wanted to run out and say, Later but why worry about it and stress. All that extra anxiety? No way. So I stayed and prepared for hell in my mouth! Well I cannot tell you how totally different my experience was from what I thought and what others had told me. The doctor was funny, smart and explained the process to ease my concerns. She said it would not hurt, but who would believe that. Her assisting tech was a blast, with a great sense of humor. I can't believe I was in the chair....the Dental chair, mouth jacked open, and laughing with these super professional and super funny ladies. I was not in pain. Outside of the injection at the beginning, I felt nothing. When it was over, I still was not in pain. Two weeks later, yup, no pain. I could not believe it. I know it sounds crazy, but it was not horrible. I was not in pain and for sure, I was not traumatized by having a root canal. Please, if you find yourself in need of the scary sounding term.....root canal, do yourself a kind favor and see Dr. Abby Gaughan. The office is currently Covid prepared, safe and staff are very kind. They all are warm, share a smile and want you to have a very positive experience. No one loves going to the dental office. But it's a good health practice so don't put it off. Those oral issues just get worse with the passing of time. Please tell them Claire sent you and you'll be in for a party! Trust me. It came about because I wasn't sleeping enough for weeks and my body was probably feeling both stressed out and susceptible to infection so my eye this time around took on this burden. It was unsightly and did not go away for a number of days, and because of its proximity to my eye, I couldn't risk permanent vision damage and whatnot. At first I went to Parton Health Center on Middlebury College campus to get it checked out, and the nurse was worried and wanted a nurse practitioner to check it out. I came back the next day and the nurse practitioner wanted me to see a doctor that same day. I went in to see the nurse practitioner at 9:45 AM and got an appointment for here for 2PM of the same day! When I walked into Middlebury Eye Associates, I was greeted cheerfully by the receptionist and was checked in promptly. The waiting area is a cute room with a lovely rug, and it feels like I'm in somebody's home because of course, like many other local businesses in town, this optometry office is an old house in the town of Middlebury converted and repurposed into an optometry clinic! The upstairs portion is who knows what. Maybe more offices, maybe someone's living quarters, I don't know. Well, here I am getting my eye checked out, and my suspicions were right! The doctor said it looks like a cold sore under the microscope. Dr. Monica Wolosinski was my optometrist for the day and she, as well as the other ladies working here, is very sweet and attentive, and cares about her patients. I had to pay $60 to get my eye checked out to see that it was mostly fine and now my left pupil is dilated and sensitive to light, as well as useless for seeing things up close, but it was a great experience, and I'd come back here if I had any more pressing eye issues.

Long Trail has helped me so much following a knee injury. My strength, balance, and gait have made…read moretremendous improvements. They listen to me about where I feel I'm having issues, and customize my therapy sessions accordingly. My only complaint would be that my initial intake eval was a disheartening, but that therapist is no longer there. He made me feel like I was over stating my injury despite a partially torn ligament, hamstring tear, and small fracture. He spoke like I should already be back to work (12 hour shifts with a lot of walking). That really got in my head and made me feel awful. Thankfully my orthopedist disagreed with him. My therapy itself has been outstanding from day one. I credit the therapists/trainers for getting me safely back to work, and guiding me to better health and strength. I have nothing but praises for all the staff at Long Trail!
