When I canceled my nanny request I received a notice that I would be charged $35 for canceling within 7 days, which I accepted. A week later I received a receipt for the full cost of the nanny service. I have contacted the company multiple times and no one has gotten back to me. Very shady business practices. The service requested is exceptional because of the Nannys; however, the value is laughable. Portland Nanny just made the decision to increase the cost of Nannys for families to somewhere around $38/hr I believe whereas the Nannys are being paid a flat fee of around $20. Nannys used to get an additional $1/hr for additional children. Now it will be a flat rate regardless of the number of children. Anyone who has ever babysat children before knows this is wrong and I encourage you to pay Nannys what they are actually worth instead of exploiting them for profit. read more

I requested nanny services for my two month old infant for a week. The first person I was matched with was a young woman who did not have a working phone so I could not communicate with her. I was hence re-matched with another young woman who told me "i have some experience, i just prefer toddlers and have more experience with them" when asked if she has cared for newborns. I texted Hannah to ask why I was matched with someone who had minimal newborn experience and was told "We would not provide you with a nanny that has zero experience with infants without asking you first as we want you to feel comfortable with the nanny that you are working with." So apparently as long as it's not ZERO experience they are okay sending an inexperienced nanny to your home. That's too low of a bar for me. read more

Our experience with Hannah has been excellent. She has quickly communicated with us when I've had questions or there's been adjustments to the schedule. Reading the review of missed communication surprises me (maybe she was out sick or something?) because we've had excellent communication with her. We currently use Portland nanny for our full time nanny during the weekdays. We have a (now) 7mth old and it can be quite difficult to find nannies (especially during covid) that can come in 40hrs a week to care for a baby but Portland nanny has done an excellent job of keeping us fully covered with nanny care since July. I feel comfortable knowing their nannies have experience and passed background checks. I also appreciate how reliable their service and nannies are. We can count on them to show up. I would highly recommend people use a service like Portland nanny to find a nanny. It's easy and gives me a sense of "peace of mind". read more

I requested permanent nanny services because I finally found work and paid the $50 search fee. Hannah sent over one nanny to look over and was supposed to set up a meet and greet. I asked her to send additional nanny's to look over but I still may be interested in that particular nanny and set up the meet and greet. Hannah never set up the meet and greet nor did she send me additional nannies per my request. In fact Hannah stopped answering my emails. I've reached out a total of 5 times to get updates and hannah has ignored me. Portland Nanny basically stole my money and seized contact with me. I've had to get my bank involved. The least reliable service I have EVER used for childcare. Because finding reliable childcare in Portland is absolutely impossible if you're not rich, we stuck with a regular sitter from this company for a couple months. Or at least, we tried to. Our regular sitter seemed to have zero toddler experience. She was a talented, intelligent, & educated young lady, but was completely overwhelmed by my kid & interrupted me in my home office constantly with what she deemed highly urgent questions, like whether my kid could have 2 snacks or part of *her* (i.e., the sitter's) snack (This despite my having given her a fairly detailed document with that type of info),or simply to inform me that they were done with an activity. She defaulted to a lot of TV despite being told it was a last resort activity. I liked HER, but she did not do a great job of caring for my child...then this sitter canceled two Mondays in a row with very little notice, & the company gave us no sub. The 1 day she showed up in between was a disaster, with my spending much of the time she was there changing my kid's diaper, soothing her, & cleaning up a preventable mess. To be clear, this review is not about that sitter, even though we were really, really disappointed. Aside from the unprofessional last-second cancellations, that sitter specifically might have been great with an older kid. What is totally unacceptable to me, & why I am writing this review, is the company's policies, processes, & total inability / unwillingness to provide what they promise. Their lack of real empathy in this chronic situation is just salt in my wounds. Why did they place someone with apparently 0 toddler experience with us, & why, why, WHY does this company operate with no contingency plans in place for when sitters call out sick?! Kids have germs. People caring for them get sick a lot. It's not shocking - having no meaningful plan for subs IS. Why are they still taking clients they clearly cannot or do not want to serve?! It seems that all of this company's admin is run long-distance by one person who is clearly underpaid, who is on call 24/7, & who hasn't met any of the sitters in person. Why!? Our problems were not constrained to that sitter. An unacceptably high portion of the time, the sitters cancel at the last second & the company will not provide a substitute. They left me without childcare three Mondays in a row, with as little as 90 minutes' notice that, despite the extortionate fees we paid ($150 for "permanent placement," etc), I was told too bad, so sad, I was on my own. "Sorry for the inconvenience." Forget my job. Forget my own small business or my commitments to clients. Or my bills (very "inconvenient," I agree). If you are a prospective customer, you should know that even if you're shoveling money at these people, you & your child(ren) ABSOLUTELY DO NOT matter to them. You're losing thousands of dollars because you have to cancel contract work? "Inconvenience." Your child is crying inconsolably because you (foolishly, I admit) told them they'd have a "friend" to play with today, but now nobody is coming & you plop them in front of a screen, even though it makes you feel sick inside to do so, just so you can do whatever you can to work? "Inconvenience." There is nothing quite like receiving an email canceling childcare at the last second that signs off with a cheery & doubly exclamation-marked "Have a great day!!" ...You just ruined my day & my paycheck. Those words don't mean what you think they do. I more than realize people have emergencies, but if you are already gouging desperate working parents to the tune of $27+ an hour + "processing" + "placement" fees - I can only assume this fee exists because once it is paid,you misplace your trust in this company by thinking that you'll have childcare on the confirmed dates! - YOU. NEED. SUBSTITUTES. Families need to be able to trust that somebody will show up. At this point, I must say that when the sitters from this company actually DO show up, I have felt what I can only describe as a sense of mild surprise.If you love that idea, then great, maybe you'll love the terrifying, income-endangering roller coaster ride of this company.If you have too many "emergencies," you need to hire more backups. If your sitters are routinely bailing, maybe you should pay them more. These people are apparently running a whole, entire company without ever having so much as read the Wikipedia article about supply & demand. It's ALMOST like they realize we live in a cutthroat, bloodthirsty, merciless capitalist hell, but Portland Nanny only acknowledges that insofar as they fleece parents for obscene amounts of money & whine self-pityingly about how they have a "high volume of requests" for care.The rest of the time, they want to believe that this is some beautiful utopia where working parents who suddenly can't work will not experience dire economic consequences if you repeatedly screw them,& their kids, over. read more

TL;DR Very unreliable care. You might get an okay sitter; you might get one who straight up ignores your kid when they're crying. Don't expect any support from this org's support team either when it hits the fan. They don't care. My permanent nanny for my toddler had a health emergency and needed to take the week, so I tried this company out. The pricing structure is offputtingly expensive for childcare services, but I was desperate enough to pay the 29/hr (plus fees, nearly double what I've paid for care up to this point) for what I thought would be professional in-a-pinch care so that my partner and I could stack our video call meetings at our work-from-home jobs into the two days. It looked promising: woman-owned, family-focused. I had to pay upfront which, as a contract writer, I felt uncomfortable doing without protections, but like I said I was desperate for good care. The first day was okay. The sitter interrupted our work a few times with questions and left the living room a mess with toys, craft supplies, and snack time waste, but I was just relieved my very shy, fearful of strangers toddler had felt comfortable with her substitute for the day, so I let the rest slide even though you'd expect premium pricing would include at least standard clean up after activities. The second day was unacceptable though. It was a different sitter who let me know minutes before arrival time that they had had car trouble. I understand sh3t happens and things go wrong, but these things just cannot happen with in-a-pinch care. They just can't. A support agent did reach out to me as well and offered to refund me for the time missed or extend the appointment, but none of those options help with the reality that I as the parent am still getting fcked over when I counted on them to watch my kid so I can work. When the sitter finally did arrive, things went well for about half an hour until my kid started crying for a while, not a tantrum but like her scared lonely cry, and I looked over and they were just sitting there. Like this person said maybe six sentences to my kid the entire day. My partner ended up spending 50-75% of the time that we had the sitter holding my kid, getting her snacks, or comforting her because she kept running after us and crying and the sitter. did. nothing. I attempted to reach out to the support agent but they came to the defense of the sitter and insisted that she had always received "glowing reviews" in the past. I doubt any of those parents were around to hear their kid's cries be ignored. I received zero empathy from the support agent. No offer to remedy the situation beyond finding a sitter who is a "better fit." When something tanks this badly on the first go, the last thing I want to do is try again in hopes that I MIGHT luck out with someone better. Are these people even vetted? There is absolutely no trust; I can't put myself through this again at this high level of expense with 50% success rate for even a basic level of care. And I'm one of the lucky ones who had my partner to safety net when this fell through.... Try at your own risk I guess... but me? Never again. read more

Portland Nanny offered exactly what I needed -- regular care for just a few hours a week. At first I was nervous about not necessarily getting the same person every time. But after using Portland Nanny for a few months, I'm happy to say every nanny assigned to us has been fantastic. Furthermore, Portland Nanny has done a solid job assigning me the same persons whenever possible and finding nannies that meet my preferences. Awful nanny service and company. We had a nanny no show, no call during an out of state wedding. The only way we found out she was not coming is because we called the company and finally got a hold of someone a half hour after they were supposed to arrive. We came all the way to Portland from the east coast for a once in a lifetime moment and missed the whole thing because of this garbage company. The owner said, "Well don't worry, we will give you your money back since no one ever came." What a joke. We would recommend this service to absolutely no one. read more

Only after we texted and eventually called that she alerted us that she would not be coming. We called the company and they did nothing about it. We missed the wedding. We scheduled a sitter two weeks before a big event and got a confirmation that there was a sitter available for that evening. So we flew into to Portland last Saturday for the big event. We understood it was $30 an hour and didn't have an issue with that as I thought they were legit. Anyhow the sitter was a No show at 7pm that evening. My husband and I were not able to attend the celebration for him. The celebration was for the sale of the company that he had started. This was a BIG deal for us. The owner of Portland Nanny told me she couldn't get anyone to fill in that evening. This was a complete waste of a trip to OR. If I could give her a negative 5 star I would. She needs to close up shop, she's not capable of scheduling and seems checked out of her company. read more

I tried Portland Nanny for the first time this past weekend! My husband and I wanted a date night but our usual babysitter, and family members were unable to watch our baby. I ended up finding Portland Nanny. Nicole matched me with an awesome nanny that loves babies! What I love the most about Portland Nanny is that the nannies all have their backgrounds checked, references confirmed, and certifications. I was able to trust that this new person coming to take care of my son was high quality, and trustworthy. I'm looking forward to using this service again in the near future! read more

As a working mom, I'm so grateful to have a fantastic agency like Portland Nanny to contact when I need extra or backup care. We have a wonderful regular nanny, but things come up and sometimes you need a solution! I had some work I needed to finish outside of my regular nanny's availability, and was quickly matched with Jamie. She was fantastic; my daughter warmed up to her very quickly and they had a great day. Jamie kept me updated on their activities and clearly took excellent care of her; if you love your nanny you have the option to request them if they're available in the future, and we'll definitely be doing that. It's so nice to know that this service is a future option; my only regret is that I didn't contact them sooner for the days I've needed extra help and have tried to get by doing work during naptimes. We were assured there were several good candidates for our family but the ones that were sent turned out to be inexperienced with twins (we firmly requested nannies with twin experience), another eagerly said she wanted to continue with us but bailed last minute --- then we weren't given any other options. I visited Portland for a wedding and had so much anxiety about leaving my 5 month old son, but Kaytlyn was so wonderful. She sent me pictures every half hour and made us feel so comfortable. She even watched him at the hotel and took notes about his bedtime routine. I was so happy to have her. She knew of all of my anxiety about being in a new city and having someone other than family watch him. It was great having her and I will recommend them to any mom! They were all so helpful!!! I am very upset with the way I was treated by the Portland Nannies. I had a standing reservation with them for a sitter on Saturday when I got the flu. I texted the sitter assigned to my reservation and she offered to come the next Sunday instead. By the next Sunday, the sitter was sick and not able to honor her agreement. I called the Portland Nannies for reimbursement of the services not fulfilled and they refused to refund me stating company policy. If the sitter had stated the company policy when I let her know I was sick, I would have gladly had her watch my kids while I stayed in bed. I feel defrauded, lied to and stolen from. We recently had our first experience using Portland Nanny and were so pleased with the nanny, Heidi, and the service we received. I have an unpredictable work schedule which makes finding routine care challenging. We have booked 5+ sitters through Urbansitter and I felt the quality of the care through Portland Nanny was far superior. I'm not looking to pay just for a warm body to keep my child alive. I appreciate an upbeat attitude, someone who actually enjoys interacting with children, and one that can properly change a diaper (is it too much to ask??). I am already using the service again to book additional date. I'm hoping that if our previous nanny is unavailable, again we will be matched with someone trust worthy and excellent. My husband, kids and I just returned from spending the week checking Portland out. While we were there we found out one of my husband and I's absolute favorite bands was playing in town. Our hotel's concierge recommended Portland Nanny if we wanted to go sans kids and we are so happy we did! We called them the morning of the concert and they matched us with a sitter (even emailed us a cute bio) within just a few hours. When she arrived at our hotel that evening we felt comfortable almost immediately that she was more than capable and qualified to watch our children - they barely even noticed we were leaving! When we returned the kids were in bed, we signed off on her time card and all was seamless. The kids had a blast with her, my husband and I had a great date night out on the town and it could not have worked out more perfectly!
