Oh yeah and god help you if you smoke, because then that's just used as license for you to be treated like garbage by nurses with little to no interest in you. The place is pathetic from top to bottom. And even when you register a genuine complaint, telling truth... It's just passed off, with nothing being done.

I stayed with her overnight on the children's ward. I found the nurses to be excellent. They understood my concerns and were in good spirits throughout the night (i.e. not crabby). The children's ward comes complete with a parents lounge (equipped with food and drinks) and a baby feeding area. This was handy for us because I didn't expect my daughter to be admitted so had nothing with me. The second time I visited it was to see the out of hours GP. Despite not having an appointment the receptionist accommodated us without fuss after calling round other hospitals in the area to try and get us a doctor.

I keep meaning to change my doctors but it seems like too much of a hassle. This surgery was expanded over the past 5 or 6 years and now includes a clinic for the nurses upstairs and a chiropody unit further along the building. The building itself is clean and modern, nothing at all to complain about. The time you have to wait on actually getting an appointment is though. I have waited as long as 2 weeks to see a doctor before, by which time I've forgotton what was wrong with me in the first place! When you finally do get that appointment, don't expect to be seen on time. Again, I have waited an astonishing 2 and a half hours before on a doctor who was running late, and certain ones do it all the time, swanning past with their coffee cups in no rush to get through the patient list! The actual doctors who work there are a hit or a miss; I have had some lovely, supportive, genuinely interested ones, but I have also had ones that couldn't give a toss and send you packing after 5 minutes. I also had a bit of an issue with test results once, going back six months later to be told I hadn't been given the proper medication in the first place. I was fuming to say the least. Not the best doctors surgery in the world, I can only imagine they have over-registered patients and over-worked doctors.

I think over the years we have visited almost every ward in this place…read more The hospital gets a bad reputation locally, but at the same time when there was talk that it was to shut, the local community rallied round to save it, so it can't be all bad. Most of our recent visits have been to Accident and Emergency (A&E) and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember it years ago. Sometime it's not been the cleanest and sometimes the staff don't do things in the order you'd expect, but after a 12 hour shift I think I'd be the same. The staff in the Intensive care (ICU) have a very difficult job and are really sympathetic to the families, giving them loads of time and space at a time that is truly difficult and harrowing. No matter where you are in the hospital there are loads of hand sanitiser to try and minimise the risk of infection and reminders everywhere so you don't forget that it's important to avoid patients catching unwanted infections. If you've dealing with issues over multiple wards, you'll find that the doctors tend to specialise and don't appear to be able to deal with issues out with their own speciality/department, which can be very frustrating as it should be simple to get some cross departmental cooperation and patient care. The car parking is difficult during the traditional visiting hours, often spilling out onto the neighbouring streets. Some wards have, in recent years, tried to move away from these traditional hours, so you may be in luck and be able to attend loved ones at hours that are more suitable for you, your family, the person your visiting and all with easier parking. There are lifts within the central corridor of the hospital at both the front and the back of the hospital, which will take you to the wards you're visiting, with loads of signs to help you get where you need to go without too much need to navigate the maze of corridors. Occasionally there are periods that the hospital is having ongoing maintenance, but these are usually highlighted and with new additions, such as the Maggie's Centre and the New Beatson, the Hospital is providing local services that the community need on their doorstep. There is a RVS (WRVS) tea room / snack area on the ground floor as well as a small WH Smiths which are open for limited hours during the day. If you are spending time there there is also a canteen on the basement of the building, but as It's some time since I've visited there I'll leave that to a later review or maybe someone else can review it. For those with disabilities there are disabled parking in the car park at the front door, but these fill fast so I'd advise to try to arrive early and grab something at the tea room or the shop before your visit. For those using public transport, there appears to be fairly regular bus services running and there is a bus stop across from the front of the hospital. The local train station (Coatdyke) is a short(wish) walk from the back of the hospital. Overall, the place could be better, but it is improving all the time and with staff working long hours and with NHS budgets the way they are, I'm glad it's still here as it's a vital life line for anyone who needs it.

My husband was recently admitted into Monklands Hospital and I was a bit concerned as have been…read morepoor reports in past with regards to hygiene etc. But the ward he was in was clean and well kept. Staff were all very pleasant and were always loads of nurses milling around if you needed anything. Only major issue was it took him around 7 hours to get released after they advised him that he could go home as needed to wait for a prescription coming from Pharmacy. It is depressing having to sit around in hospital for 7 hours when you know that you are going home and should try and sort this out as obviously too long a delay

Burnbank Medical Centre has been my doctors since I was born. I've seen a change of venue and…read morechanges of doctors throughout my many years of my wee life. There are 4 GP partners at the practice including nurses. I believe because of Government changes the nurses will not be based at the surgery anymore and will be elsewhere in Hamilton. I did have my flu jag last month and it was still within the surgery, I will need to keep checking to find out. I've been here that often that even before I get to the counter the receptionist gives me a nod. They know me, too well me thinks. Eep! Och to be honest it is nice, they are friendly and it shows they know their clients. Ive always managed to get what I've needed from the doctors and been cured by their good advice and prescribed medication, the majority of the time. There is a couple of unusual things about this surgery. 1. They do have music playing in the waiting area but it plays through a phone on the wall. This also doubles up for the doctor to call you. The music is usually catered for the older generation and it's so muffled sounding, well it is playing through the speaker phone. 2. My doctor has a dog who lies underneath his desk. He has a reason and there's signs up saying why the dog is there, I can't remember why but it's all above board. It is quite nice when you see its wee nose poking under the desk giving your feet a wee sniff. Another couple of things to note is that you can only book an appointment on the day, so call at 8am to make sure you get one as they go quick. They changed it to this system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. Also the only open for a half day on Wednesdays as the afternoons as I believe it's the baby clinc. Apart from these unusual things it's a pretty good doctors.
