absolutely the best Christmas concert of the season. Very interactive for children and adults.

A nice enough event tonight at Keller Auditorium. Impressive vocals, especially the woman who portrayed the Virgin Mary. Performance was well-coordinated, sound was excellent. A couple of takeaways: One for the schmaltzy Santa routine between "Fred" and Santa during the first act. Do away with that and you wouldn't have lost anything. And second, there was a glaring lack of diversity in the performers. This even included the "guest" group from St. Mary's. I'm not the only one in my group who noticed this. An odd exclusion from a group rooted in a city which supposedly prides itself on it's attempts to promote diversity. read more

Portlands Singing Christmas Tree is now in it's 53rd year. This production has become a holiday tradition for many individuals and families over the years. If you have ever attended this event you understand "why". This production just puts you in the Christmas spirit. No matter how bah hum bug you are....you will smile. :-). Included in "The Tree" is live orchestra, comedy, adult and children choral and some short plays/ drama. There are so many traditional Holiday songs as well and some newer ones. The nativity performance is outstanding. Every year a couple local bands, choirs or drama departments are featured as well. The lighting is amazing and there is even snow fall. :-) There are hundreds of people that come together behind the scenes to volunteer their time each year to make this event a success as well as some extremely talented artists. This year was the second time I've seen Portland's Singing Tree. But this time, I brought my daughter and granddaughter. Both of them LOVED it! So much so that we plan to go yearly. The Singing Christmas tree is becoming a personal Christmas tradition. I've been 2 years in a row. It's a fun way to get in the mood for Christmas. It's a 2 hour show of Christmas music combining adult and child choral groups, live orchestra, dance, and comedy. It's called a singing Christmas tree because the center stage is a giant tree filled with rows of singers. The medley of "God Rest Ye Gentleman" and "Carol of the Bells" was my favorite. Seating is assigned and the show is for a good cause. Next year is the 50th anniversary and I can't wait to be there. I used the word "Christmas" only 5 times to write this review. read more

This show is absolutely amazing. For many, many years my family and I have been attending this show and haven't been ever been disappointed. The choir s one of the best I've ever heard and the music is indescribably powerful. The nativity in the second half has original, cinematic music that brings the entire story of Christmas to life like never seen before. This show has touched thousands of hearts and souls throughout the years and has been a huge part of my life. This show is so much more than some people singing and dancing with some flashy lights. The first half is more of a,for lack of a better phrase, "Santa clause oriented" show, which is still beautiful and dazzling, but the second half is more, again for lack of a better phrase "Baby Jesus oriented" and there is more message and meaning. I would recommend this show to everyone and anyone. read more

Call this "Karaoke Christmas Cheese." You should know what you're getting if you buy tickets to this. The show may well suit your tastes--and if so, that's great. For me, this was awful, and my family left at intermission. The choir is certainly magnificent, and when they sing a capella, the experience is transporting. However, most of the time they're accompanied by a prerecorded soundtrack, which someone apparently decided is at least as important musically as the singers--it's always as loud, and often louder, than the choir, sometimes driven to the point of distorting. That's the "karaoke" part. And for reasons that escape me, someone decided that between every song, there should be a snippet of a silly drama between Santa Claus and his ne'er do well brother, Fred. Never mind that the actors chew the scenery and the story is just silly. These interpolations have nothing to do--musically, dramatically, emotionally--with the songs that come before and after. Thus, they are simply disruptive, deflating any coherence or cumulative effect the songs might otherwise have. I've been to a fair number of singing Christmas trees in a number of states and cities over the years. This was probably the best choir, and the worst experience, I've had at such events. I am biased, yes, because I am among it's branches, but I also know from speaking to audiences after our shows that we usher them into the true spirit of the season. It may be cheesy to some, but it just shows that our show has content that is appropriate for the entire family. I've personally met families who've been coming to this show for years, and there are those who comprise of three generations, making the Tree a true part of their Christmas tradition. Especially in this year's events that were truly trying, it is more meaningful that we continue to deliver the hope and promise that Christmas really is! Thank you to the gentleman who called us a Karaoke Christmas Cheese, and still said that the choir is magnificent. Please know that we are ALL VOLUNTEERS, who come together and bring the message of Christ's birth because we ALL BELIEVE. We are also most proud that we are able to give back to the community by awarding funds to the high school choirs that participate in our shows. If you haven't seen us, GIVE US A TRY! If you don't feel Christmas-y after our show, then we'll certainly understand if you don't return. Another great performance this year. The choir is excellent, the Dancers are fun. The skits are in the 1st half of the show and are enjoyable and humorous. The guest performers are quality talent. The 2nd half of the show pulls it all together with the Christmas story and great songs. A great way to kick off the season. Dozens of singers devote their personal time to volunteer to put this show on for Portland each year. It is truly a performance that each time is done with heart! read more

This thing is a church Christmas pageant (on steroids). I have attended before and have enjoyed it but for 2018 they have ratcheted up the religion and greatly reduced the secular. They have also eliminated the high school choirs, who earned some money for their programs by participating. It's too long at 2:40 (with a 15 minute intermission). The Jefferson Dancers are a highlight as was an aerialist who performed during the nativity play. It's still a decent way to begin the Xmas season but it's not what it used to be. Fantastic show, a perfect way to start your Christmas season! Local high school dancers, a children's choir, the amazing Tree chior!

Things to know: 1. The choir isn't really singing live. They use a prerecorded tracks and the choir microphones are turned WAY down besides during the a'capella pieces. 2. Aimee: She's one of those people who fake smiles over everything. Everyone praises her and thinks she's an angel but she is not that pleasant behind the scenes. She won't hesitate to lash out at you when she's stressed and will talk down to you like you're an idiot. Maybe someone outta take a few tasks away from her. She has too much on her plate. 3. Jesus and Santa should never be in the same mix. 4. The tickets is WAY too overpriced for a show that's not THAT great. 5. While the big dogs (Aimee included) get paid the big bucks, the singers who are the talent and who there would be no show without, have to pay a fortune ($300+) to be in the show! That's more than a ticket to SEE the show! What's the payment for? For The Tree to use their voice and make money off of it?! read more
