It's absolutely beautiful inside--such a cute, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed space. The food was on the simpler side, but still really good. I had the gluten-free mushroom chicken, and for a healthier option, it was solid. Everyone else seemed to love the taco salad, and those cinnamon rolls they bring out? So good. The coffee was also a standout. What really stuck with me, though, was learning more about the organization. I had so many questions, and hearing about what they do and the impact they make was genuinely interesting and inspiring. It actually made me want to get involved--I'm planning to look into signing up and seeing where it leads. Overall, such a lovely experience. Beautiful space, good food, and an even better mission behind it.

One of my good friends told me about the Junior League of Houston as she was searching for…read morereception venues for her wedding. She told me about becoming a member and the fundraising and events involved. If you know an existing member, you can get them to sponsor you when you join. Luckily, she knew someone. Fast forward a year later, and she was able to book the Junior League for her reception. It is located right next to the Houston Grand Hotel River Oaks (formerly St. Regis), which is convenient because it's walking distance to where we stayed. There's a parking garage next to the entrance. You walk in, and it's simply beautiful inside. Each room is adorned in a different color or wallpaper, furniture, and artwork. It's that old money timeless vibe like the Hamptons. It fit my friend quite well for her style. Everyone at the reception took photos in every room...including the restroom which has an emerald green chaise in the sitting room. There were only 2 stalls in the women's restroom though. We had cocktail hour in a separate room, and there were little bars set up. The servers greeted us with wine or champagne. There were also sodas for nonalcoholic options. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. They served breaded spinach and artichoke bites with horseradish dip, mini bruschetta, and mini skewers of olive, cheese and deli meat. I ate a ton of the spinach and artichoke bites. Lol. When it was time to enter the dining hall, a staff member played a xylophone repeatedly to indicate it was time for dinner service. It was similar to when you need to go back to your seat at the theater. The ballroom area itself was beautiful with all the chandeliers. I'd say it fits about 150-200 people depending on the table and seats you choose. There was a small dance floor near the stage with their wedding logo on the floor. They happened to have a live band which was amazing. They played for 2-3 hours straight a quarter after midnight, and everyone danced and sang the night away. The staff was amazing and attentive. The food was delicious, and the steaks were surprisingly cooked so well that you could cut the filet with a butter knife. I was skeptical at first. After dinner, they served coffee. I asked for tea, and they brought me a whole teapot and earl grey. The lead person overseeing the Junior League was so cool, and by the end of the night, she thanked us because this was the most smooth and respectful group of guests and wedding party she's seen come through. Yay! It was a wonderful celebration of love. The Junior League is the perfect place to have a wedding reception or event. I highly recommend. I'd like to look into some of their events and fundraisers. I tried to see if there were any CPR classes, but their website hasn't been updated. I was able to get a free one anyway.

She used natural wood and local fabrics to give her art an airy, breezy and natural twist. When I walked up to her house, it was windy and you could see the wind blow through her various fabrics, all so colorful, as if I was in a field of flowers. The soft gentle swoosh as each piece of fabric blew with the wind. The smell of cedar, oak from the wood! The houses on this row each told a different story, one about natural 4C hair, the journey to make it manageable while still searching to find the beauty within it, growing up in a shotgun house on Monterey, family pictures, watching old family videos and listening to the record player, the clay from all around Houston, the inability of seeds, fruit trees and Lucious tropical plants to be able to grow within it due to its lack of moisture retention and minerals and being thrown into a fairy tail, one with diverse characters of color as the main characters! This project was incredible with unspeakable artistry by some amazing artists! The winner received a monetary donation of $25,000. Best of luck to them all and thank you for the incredible installation!!

I was invited to come here for one of their legal classes. It was very nice to see how accommodating they are towards their community. This particular class consisted of mainly seniors. They were able to get an understanding of how to protect their assets and/or pass along to their love ones. As you walk in they have lots of brochures and business cards of all kinds of assistance.

The Children's Assessment Center is a nonprofit that works with therapists and law enforcement to…read moresupport child victims of sexual abuse. It is a safe space that allows these children to just be kids without fear for once. I was the coordinator for a service group that worked with the CAC this school year. We were not able to visit the CAC during the week as you have to be at least 18 and go through rigorous training to volunteer with the children. Instead, we sorted donations, made activity books, ran a donation drive, cleaned the playroom, etc. The CAC also came to our school to talk about awareness of sexual abuse and Internet safety. The counselors are available for talks with children, adults, and for professional development with other social workers and counselors. Obviously this is wonderful organization that helps Houstonians and gives children a voice, but I was emotionally drained working with the CAC. As a mother, I would get nauseous or furious when learning more about some of the things the counselors had to deal with and the lies and manipulation abusers use. I couldn't help but place my own children in the shoes of these innocents that just want to be kids. Just scrubbing down a highchair in the kitchen would make my stomach turn and my mind rage, "a baby? really? some people are so sick!" It was very emotionally challenging for me to volunteer here and I didn't even interact with the kids. If you know you are or know someone who is a victim of sexual abuse, speak up for yourself and those that will come after you! Volunteer, donate, or support the CAC until we have enough education and awareness to put it out of business.

This photo is one for those voting for one particular party, whereas the line for the other political party was quite short. They are well staffed with helpful volunteers who direct, encourage,and thank you for voting. It's so organized. Aside from voting, this center does great things for the community and their changing needs. The avenues of addressing these needs varies as government policies change. This makes me even more committed to voting here. They do so much for Harris county, and the least I can do is show up to vote. Grateful for Ripley and all who actualize it.
