Most of my soaps and scarves were purchased from going on days where the studios are open to the public. One of my Frida paintings was purchased from one of the resident artists there. Just recently (Nov. 17, 2018), I volunteered as bartender for Winter Street Studios annual Winter Holiday Art Market (WHAM) I had a blast making and serving drinks. Art, awesome people, craft beer, cocktails, and wine. Umm, sounds like a lovely day to me!

They had food, alcohol freely flowing, a silent auction, and fashion show. Winter Street Studios was able to accommodate all of those things in different areas. The space is bright, open, and can easily be made into whatever you need as far as a space. Problems: -The parking was valet that night, but we opted to park ourselves. You have to walk over railroad tracks to get to the building and then through some gravel. On the way out we had to wait for a train to get to our car. The parking is definitely limited and the building was not at full capacity. - If this place is handicapped accessible then it's well hidden. There are stairs and gravel between parking and the 2nd floor space we were in. Drunk people were wobbly leaving. - The bathroom (yes singular) was a couple of rooms being used by both men and women. It was a little strange, but we worked it out. If there was another bathroom, no one found it. Even with all of that said, the space is great and you can do so much with it! I really liked that there was a DJ after the fashion show in one room and it was quieter in the silent auction section so you could choose your noise level! If you are looking for a place to rent out for a party/auction/benefit/etc... check this place out.

It's absolutely beautiful inside--such a cute, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed space. The food was on the simpler side, but still really good. I had the gluten-free mushroom chicken, and for a healthier option, it was solid. Everyone else seemed to love the taco salad, and those cinnamon rolls they bring out? So good. The coffee was also a standout. What really stuck with me, though, was learning more about the organization. I had so many questions, and hearing about what they do and the impact they make was genuinely interesting and inspiring. It actually made me want to get involved--I'm planning to look into signing up and seeing where it leads. Overall, such a lovely experience. Beautiful space, good food, and an even better mission behind it.

One of my good friends told me about the Junior League of Houston as she was searching for…read morereception venues for her wedding. She told me about becoming a member and the fundraising and events involved. If you know an existing member, you can get them to sponsor you when you join. Luckily, she knew someone. Fast forward a year later, and she was able to book the Junior League for her reception. It is located right next to the Houston Grand Hotel River Oaks (formerly St. Regis), which is convenient because it's walking distance to where we stayed. There's a parking garage next to the entrance. You walk in, and it's simply beautiful inside. Each room is adorned in a different color or wallpaper, furniture, and artwork. It's that old money timeless vibe like the Hamptons. It fit my friend quite well for her style. Everyone at the reception took photos in every room...including the restroom which has an emerald green chaise in the sitting room. There were only 2 stalls in the women's restroom though. We had cocktail hour in a separate room, and there were little bars set up. The servers greeted us with wine or champagne. There were also sodas for nonalcoholic options. The hors d'oeuvres were delicious. They served breaded spinach and artichoke bites with horseradish dip, mini bruschetta, and mini skewers of olive, cheese and deli meat. I ate a ton of the spinach and artichoke bites. Lol. When it was time to enter the dining hall, a staff member played a xylophone repeatedly to indicate it was time for dinner service. It was similar to when you need to go back to your seat at the theater. The ballroom area itself was beautiful with all the chandeliers. I'd say it fits about 150-200 people depending on the table and seats you choose. There was a small dance floor near the stage with their wedding logo on the floor. They happened to have a live band which was amazing. They played for 2-3 hours straight a quarter after midnight, and everyone danced and sang the night away. The staff was amazing and attentive. The food was delicious, and the steaks were surprisingly cooked so well that you could cut the filet with a butter knife. I was skeptical at first. After dinner, they served coffee. I asked for tea, and they brought me a whole teapot and earl grey. The lead person overseeing the Junior League was so cool, and by the end of the night, she thanked us because this was the most smooth and respectful group of guests and wedding party she's seen come through. Yay! It was a wonderful celebration of love. The Junior League is the perfect place to have a wedding reception or event. I highly recommend. I'd like to look into some of their events and fundraisers. I tried to see if there were any CPR classes, but their website hasn't been updated. I was able to get a free one anyway.

This is a long review because I've worked on it for a long time…read more.. If you asked me to pick one place that defines Houston, it would be Buffalo Bayou Park. I've spent countless hours here running and riding my bike. Some days it's a quick evening jog, other days it's a long ride from Eleanor Tinsley Park toward Memorial Park or connecting through the trails to the University of Houston. No matter how many times I come back, it never gets old. The park has been the backdrop for so many of my favorite Houston memories. I came here for Free Press Summer Fest back in the day, Freedom Over Texas fireworks, the Art Car Parade, Pride celebrations, marathons, half marathons, 5Ks, and even the Texas Independence Relay. It's one of those places that feels completely different depending on the day. Sometimes it's quiet and peaceful, and other times it's filled with thousands of people celebrating everything that makes Houston unique. It also reminds me of some of the city's hardest moments. I'll never forget walking down after Hurricane Harvey and seeing the bayou swollen all the way up to Allen Parkway. It was hard to comprehend just how much water had moved through here. Seeing the park recover over time has been a reminder of Houston's resilience. One of my favorite discoveries has been the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern. It's such a unique experience and a reminder that there's always something new to explore, even after years of visiting the park. What I love most is how connected everything feels. The trails weave through the city with incredible downtown views, public art, green spaces, bridges, and plenty of places to stop and take it all in. Whether you're training for a race, out for a casual walk, riding your bike, or just enjoying the skyline, there's a reason people keep coming back. Buffalo Bayou Park isn't just another park to me. It's where I've made memories, challenged myself, celebrated with the city, and found a place to unwind. Every visit reminds me why I love living in Houston. I already can't wait for my next run, and I hope to see you out there.

This is one of the best place to bike in the inner loop with the separated biking and pedestrian trails. Connects to the heights and all major neighborhoods. A lovely place to get a walk or bike ride in on the evenings or weekends! There are quite a few manicured grass spots for picnics or to bring a book, as well as shaded areas. I have always felt very safe at this park. A 'not so hidden' gem as parking can be a little tough, but leads to not very busy trails. I never realized how beautiful this park is compared to the days I would only drive by!

Our favorite studio was a new up and coming artist named Steven Bui who has a studio in the upstairs area . His hip hop meets Contemporary style was fresh and interesting. Kind of reminds us a little bit of the Tobin Center, but much more organized. Parking was better and the theater itself has a better layout and a clean lobby with more sunlight and activities as you wait for the show to start. Theater inside is beautiful.
