Skip the line! There are periods when I've come here where they have been nicely staff, but those are few and far in between. Pack your patience! Instead my bills didn't get paid , I was hit with late fees and a great deal of aggravation, not to mention a blow to my credit rating. I will never use this post office again. This place sucks. It's never a moment when I get in this place and the line is backed up. It's always one person at the front and they always move slow. Everyone is always agitated it's getting out of hand. Everytime I try to get priority boxes to mail out my orders they have none. Stuff is always empty and I would rather drive an extra 15 min to go to the other Usps store which I will do in the near future. Always the worst customer service of any post office I've used. No sense of urgency and they're generally rude, but sometimes will be straight up very rude. Lines are always out the door because they move slowly, and often just stick one person at the counter who has to keep getting up and walking to the back. If a second person comes out, don't get too excited because somehow they're good about not moving the line any quicker. A colonoscopy or getting a tooth pulled is probably a better experience than that retail counter, if you had to rank it. read more

For the handful of times I have to post something back home to Northern Ireland, there's no better place to do it from than this wee hidden gem of a post office. I've been coming here since I moved to the area - my most recent visit being this past June 16 - and it never disappoints me: it is always empty! I don't think I've ever had to wait more than a minute or two for the person ahead of me to get sorted, although a lot of locals do stop by and their chats can make the clerks behind the counter move a wee bit slower than they normally do. Having said that, the postal clerks here are very friendly, polite, and thorough. They don't moan - at least in public, and they don't seem to have that over-burdened look or don't-give-a-damn attitude many post office workers tend to have. On the contrary - these people chat and joke a lot with their customers, but even if they do take a little longer in finishing a transaction for doing so - who cares - the place is usually empty anyway! It shows that these folks have a life outside of work and they like to involve you just a wee bit more beyond the transaction - and possibly to alleviate the boredom that must set in the place! The building is not a huge one, but it does seem very ample because it is always empty, and clean. I normally go there when I have to and on a day off from work, and each time, it is dead as disco. It is always nice and cool, a welcome refuge from the heat and humidity of outside. The parking lot is a good size, and weirdly enough I somehow have always managed to get that one right-side end parking spot under the big, shady tree! Every visit! To the right-side of the post office and down the grass is a hardware store, I think, and usually an older chap parked in a truck selling bags of oranges or other fruit or veggies. I also enjoy the drive down Livingstone Road to get here - its a nice wee winding drive through a wooded backdrop - beats using the highway and away from all the bloody manic feckers who like to drive 1,000+ MPH. I am not a huge supporter of the post office simply because I feel that in this digital age, it has become redundant when compared to email and text, as well as free or discounted shipping by local and international retailers. I still need to access a specific service from it, but very infrequently - so this wee post office is my go-to location. read more

For 25 years I have experienced relatively good service at this post office. However, today there were 2 window clerks and I was number 4 in line for service. Yet, approximately 45 minutes later, when I finally exited the post office, I observed people turning around as they entered and saw the line all the way back to the post office box area. While engaging in friendly conversation with the customer, one of the clerks allowed the customer to remain at the window while completing (what appeared to be) several mailing documents rather than have the customer move away from the window to complete them!!! This went on for all of 20 minutes while the line grew so long that some customers left. While the other clerk was pleasant, he taped up a box for a customer and was holding conversations with other customers...causing more delay. The clerk who allowed the customer to linger at the window was presumably in training, as there was a tent card at his station stating he was a trainee. Nonetheless, if someone is "in training" there should be a supervisor observing and providing guidance as needed. I think this post office is being poorly managed as evidenced by what I observed today. Hopefully, things will improve. read more

I took a package filled with items for Christmas there on 12/7/17, was supposed to be delivered within 5-7 business days. I was asked if there were any perishables or breakable items and did I need insurance. I replied no to both, thinking nothing's breakable or perishable so no need to insure it. I paid my $17.50 and left, but felt uneasy about the young woman who helped me. She wasn't friendly and just gave me an uncomfortable feeling. Unfortunately, I was batteling a viral infection and just wanted to go home and get into bed. Well after the time the package should've arrived and allowing extra time for the holidays. I went to the post office and was told my package was diverted to the help center in NC, but then sent on it's way to LA. I asked why was it diverted and the clerk said there must have been a problem with it, but the system couldn't tell him what that problem was but that it's on it's way to it's destination. Well when I go back home I checked the mail and low and behold, there's a letter from USPS. Inside is the our handwritten label mailed back to us along with a letter stating they received an empty box. Immediately my wife and I said they stole our stuff. Yes, they'res a thief or thieves working in the Fort Washington post office. I was surprised because we're knew the area moving from Chevy Chase, mailing packages for decades never once having anything stolen, so this really was very disturbing and disappointing. I intend to find out who did this and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Post Master Generals office, County Council, Delegate Tony Knotts and PG County police, I will not rest or stop until I have resolution. I had to give at least 1 star, but this facility is below any stars. Avoid it at all costs, drive a little further to get better CS and honest people, it's worth it. They ruined a 4 year old girls Christmas, even though I replaced some of the things by ordering from Amazon, they just won't arrive by Christmas! A thief is the lowest form of human life and I will find out who did this to my great neice and make them regret messing with me and my family!!! read more

I would give zero stars if possible. Worst customer service. You will wait forever. In a two week time frame they have lost my package. I got a text saying another package arrived at this location and the man working the desk (there's only one person at a time) used his psychic powers to tell me it wasn't there. He refused to look. I left angry. Called back the next day to discover it was in fact at the location. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. The Post Office..... I've not been in here at any time of day where it hasn't been busy, 11am or 2pm, there has always been a line!!!! Sometimes there is one person working, sometimes three. This is the worst post office that I've ever tried to patronize in my life! Unfriendly clerk, very long line and the clerk wouldn't call for any assistance. (there was literally 7 people behind me) I waited in this post office line for 25 minutes and when I "finally" got to the counter I was told that my pre-paid Ebay package postage was not enough postage. Hello! I didn't make up the postage, it's Ebay who figured the price and I've never had a problem with shipping anything with a pre-paid postage before at my local post office. The clerk told me that I had to add more postage. I informed her that I use pre-postage packaging all of the time with Ebay and she said oh well. wow!!!! who speaks to their customer like that? How about apologizing for not calling anyone to assist you after I waited 25 minutes. I was not the only person who was treated in a rude manner, but hey...I can only speak from my own experience. The post office needs more staff to work the front lines. I came in the post office and there was one employee at the front counter and the line went from the front counter to the back of the whole lobby of the building. The line only moved every 20 minutes. Since it's the holiday season and people are having more deliveries than usual and with COVID the post office should have 4 employees at the front counter, and another employee assisting those in line. This is horrible customer service; in addition, the staff they do have, are always late coming to the counter everyday when they open. read more

So I lived in Ft Washington now for approximately 18 years. Over the past couple of years our mail delivery service has been inconsistent. Sometimes receiving mail early in the day to running after 6 p.m., and as of yesterday, absolutely no mail service whatsoever and this is not the first and only time this has occurred. I know we did not have mail service as I had placed a letter in my mailbox with the flat 'up'. it is now after 1 p.m. and the letter remains. I reached out to this office a while back with a similar complaint and was told that our mail delivery person is out quite a bit and the other carriers have to fill in for this person. Having lived in this area for over twenty years, the postal services in this area was never this inefficient until 2017/18. Seems like at that point this facility made some administrative changes and/or became short on staff. The carrier on our route for 23 years was relocated to a totally new route (everyone around here loved him for his excellent customer service & efficient/effective way of delivering our mail in a timely fashion). Now we don't get mail until late evenings and it appears that often times the carrier is hurried and therefore throwing mail is carelessly into the mailbox. At one point, it appears that any certified mailings received in this area were not being attempted for deliver @ door even when someone was home & w/o animals. Instead, tattered "pick up" slips were simultaneously placed in mailboxes w/o the important blanks of information being completed. When filling out information on the slip and/or online to have package redelivered they still do not comply and tell you to call next day at 9am to remind them to give package to carrier. Whenever speaking with some of the managers at this post office they are usually rude, make excuses for the staff's negligence, provide vague explanations and/or seem so unconcerned about providing good efficient customer service. This place is the worst! Every time I come here there is an issue. I only come when I absolutely must and can't drive out of my way to another post office. Today I arrived to a sign saying the lobby was closed. But it was actually open. However there was only one register working so there was a line to the door. The workers were unfriendly and made no apologies for the delay. The one woman working the register acted like she was being inconvenienced by the long line but definitely made no effort to work more quickly. Today I called to speak to a supervisor (wasn't sure if he was the supervisor or not) but anyways, I called because I received a notification stating my package had been delivered when it fact it had not. I looked further into it and it stated someone at a completely different address signed for MY package. When i get on the phone with the person he tells me the tracking number I gave him didn't match the address in his system (mind you two days prior they left a note on the door stating i missed the package) so somebody had the correct address. Then he proceeds to tell me someone picked the package up so ok sir, which one is it? He puts me on hold and gets back on the phone asking did i want the package to be sent back out for delivery or have somebody come pick it up. THE PACKAGE WAS IN THE OFFICE THE WHOLE TIME. He did not apologize for being rude or WRONG. Im just glad i wasnt physically in the office when trying to rectify the situation. Whatever happened to giving good customer service?! read more

I have plenty of time to write this review because I am on hold with the Post Office for "from 29 to 42 minutes"!! Ridiculous!!! All I want is postal keys to be installed on a few new gangs of mailboxes at a property I manage. The new boxes are installed but the mail lady has put all the mail on hold until the Postal Service installs their locks which I am trying to schedule. This is my third call (I was unable to get through on the first two calls). Unbelievable and frustrating. We should be given the local phone number for the post office instead of this 800 number.
