Auburn Library is one of those places that still feels genuinely useful, which sounds like a low bar until you realize how many public spaces forgot the assignment. It is quiet, comfortable, and actually set up in a way that makes it easy to focus. You can use the Wi-Fi, sit and work, read, or just be there for a minute if your day needs a softer landing. I notice lighting and flow everywhere I go, and this place works. Nothing feels fussy, nothing feels chaotic, and the whole setup makes staying a while feel easy. my daughter would be perfectly happy disappearing into a corner with a stack of books, and my son would need the usual pre-conversation about library volume, but that is a parenting issue, not a library issue. What I like most is that it still feels like a community space, not just a building that happens to hold books. Go if you need to get work done, need a quiet reset, or just want somewhere calm that does not ask anything from you.

The first was parking around the road of a roundabout with a hoisted rocks art piece in the center. The second was a lot tucked behind and across from parking on one side of the roundabout. The entrance to the building was easy to spot and benches to the side of the entrance and in the entryway were in use by library patrons. Inside the entrance and to the right were water fountains, restrooms, and group rooms/spaces for different usage. There was abundant work space with table(s) and computer(s). Chairs/other seating was available throughout the library. In the non-fiction section I found the aisles labeled by approximate topic. Looking for something in finance/economics, I found the section in a second row of the stacks. One book on the restaurant industry from an operations perspective caught my eye, so I went with that one. Self check out stations were located across from the main walkway from the entrance into the library. Checking out was straightforward and both the computer and receipt printer had no issue(s). Librarian stations were located off to one side, opposite the side with the water fountains and multi-use rooms, closer to the entrance.

Once inside, it was quiet and calm with what seemed like a variety of random services available, though I didn't explore them in detail. The children's area is thoughtfully separated, making it a good stop for families. There were plenty of computers available, even on a weekend. Printing is affordable, with $1.50 of free credit per day and reasonable rates at $0.15 for black and white and $0.50 for color. Parking was no issue at all. It was spacious and easy to access. The library is small and cozy, and I've visited a few times with my kids or alone. However, I've…read morenoticed that I'm rarely acknowledged by the librarian--she never greets me when I arrive, and when I leave, I'm usually the one to say goodbye or wish her a good evening. Interestingly, I've observed that she greets others as they come and go. This behavior feels discriminatory, and it's not just her; other staff members seem to act the same way. It gives me the impression that we're not welcome there. You can often sense people's attitudes and feelings, and it seems that if you're not of their race, you're treated differently. It's unfortunate, especially considering it's a public library meant to serve everyone equally. .

I did not recognize the library at all after 17 years. If it had not been for the road leading in, the library would've been completely unrecognizable. The entrance has wood plating and very modernized lighting. The inside looked more like a study lounge in a college than a college. The library is still modest in size but was very new and had a lot of natural lights from the windows. There was a computer lounge as well as many study rooms and one meeting room. I have to admit, I almost miss my old library but I can't deny how attractive the new designs were. They have a check yourself-out-station, which was pretty neat as you don't have to wait in line during busy hours. While not extravagant, this will always have a special place in my heart.

We've recently started going to the Fife Pierce County Library as it's super close to our…read moreneighborhood. My kids and I love it here! Upon first glance, I didn't expect much from this library because it's one of the smallest that I've seen. But what it lacks in space, it makes up for in fun and kindness from the staff! They're all super personable and make sure we know all of the happenings they're offering each week. This summer they're offering tons of family story time events, free art kits to take home, and even fun events like Insect Safaris with a local bug expert/collector. We went to the first one today and I was thoroughly impressed. I wasn't expecting much from a free event, but the collection of bugs he brought was astounding - and he even busted out five LIVE bugs for the kids to check out. They weren't any regular bugs, either. Stick bugs bigger than his hand, scorpions, and more. The kids were able to pet one of the larger stick bugs which my son really was excited about. Outside of the fun events they plan, I really appreciate having this library nearby for the sheer fact that my toddlers get bored of their bedtime books really quickly. We stop by once a week to load up on new stories for the week and they love coming to pick out books. Another added bonus which most people may know, but I did not - you're able to check out free admission passes to local attractions like the Washington State History Museum, Lakewold Gardens, Foss Waterway, etc. and most of these passes are good for 2 adults and up to 3 children. You're able to have the passes for a week before having to return them. The quantity is limited, but each time I've gone there has been at least two bundles of passes to somewhere local. Admittedly, I don't read as much as I should, but maybe I'll get back into it here soon with how often we're at this library. As a parent of two littles, this place is nearly heaven sent!
