When I walked into the shop, seeing the various types of sausages and kielbasas hanging put a major smile on my face. I ordered some of those, plus their meatloaf, cured bacon, as well as double smoked bacon. Honestly, the double smoked bacon may have been one of the best pieces of deli meats I have tasted in a very long time. The cured bacon was a very good second choice. Kielbasa was definitely worth buying as well, but the meatloaf I would skip. It wasn't bad, but it was coarser than I'm use to from Muncan in Ridgewood, where I have gotten my meatloaf for decades. In this part of Long Island, I never thought I would be able to find Eastern European cold cuts. Now that I have found them, it will be a regular shopping stop for whenever I'm visiting friends in the area.

So tried it out. We finally found our morning bagel spot! There's not a huge selection or variety of bagels unless you get there early, but they're all fresh and delicious and they have all the staples. On Father's Day, I ordered three egg sandwiches around 10:00 a.m. I arrived at 10:30 to pick them up and still waited another 15 minutes. After spending about $35, the order was wrong. Again, I let it go. Today was the final straw. I ordered two egg sandwiches and a small deli iced tea for delivery. The total was $33 before tip. The owner, John, delivered the order himself. He rang my Ring doorbell twice but never knocked. We completed the exchange without issue. When I opened the bag, the order was wrong--again. I called and politely asked to speak with the owner. I explained that my order had been made incorrectly. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, John hung up on me. I called back three more times, and each time either he or his staff hung up on me. I drove to the deli to speak with him face-to-face. His response was simply, "That's unfortunate," and he refused to remake the sandwiches or offer any refund or solution. Everyone makes mistakes. What separates a good business from a bad one is how those mistakes are handled. I wasn't angry about an incorrect sandwich--I was shocked by the complete lack of customer service, accountability, and basic respect. After years of overlooking mistakes and trying to support a local business, this experience has guaranteed I will never return. There are plenty of delis that appreciate their customers and stand behind their service. Unfortunately, Maple St. Deli isn't one of them.
