I'm a HUGE fan of Pot Gardens. We need more inclusive spaces like this in our communities. Art is healing and PG is giving us a much needed creative outlet. I was introduced to this place when a friend had their bday party here and I'm so grateful that they did. PG offers a variety of workshops. I've brought my boyfriend here twice, and we've already talked about bringing friends here when they visit from out of town. My recommendation if you do one of their 2hr workshops is to go in with a plan and design for what you want to make. You would be surprised by how quickly 2 hours goes. A friend signed us up for the Takata Pot class, and we had such a great time! Our instructor, Salima, was fantastic. she guided us every step of the way, making it an enjoyable experience. You can BYOB to the class, which made it even more fun. Last year I had made a mug and since it was a private event I got to not only bring drinks but also 420 friendly. Our group was smaller this time, but they have plenty of space for larger groups as well. It was a great opportunity to get creative and design our pieces however we wanted. You leave your masterpiece there to dry and can return to pick it up on a different day. They also offer other classes and events. We'll definitely be back! read more

I literally CAN NOT believe people have left 1 star reviews for POT LA. This space is beautifully curated in vibes and culture -- one of its kind. It's the only POC pottery space in LA & how could you hate on that?! I brought a team of 20+ for a private event and the communication from Vanny and admin team were punctual and thorough. The team loved the class and none of our mugs shattered + pickup was easily coordinated. I loved the class so much that I'm currently in a handbuilding series and convincing more friends to join. What an underwhelming experience. The "class" was led by a former customer who had no business leading a group of people, but I was there to have a good time and wasn't concerned with mastering anything. 3 weeks after my class I got an email notifying me that my bowls where ready. They're open while I work, so I scheduled time to make it to them. When I got there I was greeted by an employee taking a cigarette break and he pointed me towards the shelves where my pieces where never found. I asked the employee for help and he went to the back to speak to a manager, he went back and forth twice only to conclude with the manager directing me to email them for a refund. I asked for refund same day since I was there and the manager in the back that never came out said they couldn't do it "only Vonny" can I emailed twice and had to submit a claim through my bank after Vonny ignored my emails. When I asked about my pieces they explained that there was many pieces from my class missing. This is a very poorly run business. God bless read more

I love sending my teenager to their summer teen classes. They last about a week. It's something to get my kid back into the groove of waking up early on the daily since usually these classes are the week before school starts. It's a nice creative and calming outlet for them to do to break up the summertime slump. They do hand building and wheel pottery. They'll get to go home with some beautiful pottery they created and even participate in a group art show at the end of classes. I'd recommend sending your growing preteen to teenagers to the POT summer series classes at least one summer in their lifetime. It's an unforgettable experience for them! read more

I have been creating pottery since January and it has quickly become one of my favorite hobbies. This was my first time at POT Gardens and it was an amazing experience. Christina was our instructor and I participated in the one time class creating a pour over for coffee! I have never hand built before but felt like a professional after this session! They give you everything you need to make your piece special, and it's so organized and clean in the studio. I am so looking forward to doing another class! My friends and I were always curious about trying pottery wheel so when I found out that this studio had a promotion, I signed us up immediately. There's a lot of available street parking. The 2 hour class was $35 per person and an extra $20 if you wanted to get it fired and keep your piece. A class has enough seats for 12 students, which keeps it small enough where our instructor could help each person. Our instructor, Christina, was patient and gave a lot of helpful advice. This is my favorite place in Los Angeles! I am so happy I found it! I was looking for a ceramic studio to be able to work on ceramic pieces and have access to a kiln (where ceramic gets fired). I took a class with my sister in January, and it was with Ebony and it was a hand building class. It was a four week long class (met once a week for 2 hours) and Ebony was incredibly patient and kind with me, despite all my never ending questions. She showed us different ways of hand building and we got to work on several projects, which made it so fun. It was also wonderful to be in a POC ceramic studio, with reasonably priced classes and membership. I'm Mexican American and felt like I was in community, which is not something I feel at predominantly white studios. I loved the class so much and my pieces, and found what I felt was an oasis in the concrete jungle of LA. I became a member the following month and go about 3-4 times a week for hours at a time and have met such truly wonderful, inspiring, caring people here (both members and staff). my boyfriend had mentioned pottery to me so I looked up Pot Gardens . Last night as a birthday present I took him to the planter making class taught by Syd. Syd was an amazing instructor , they came up to everyone to check progress and answer any questions. It was a good size class so everyone felt included. The class allowed me to see my boyfriends inner child truly come out. He is already asking for us to go take another class. I cannot wait for our planters to arrive! I would recommend this to anyone for a date night or even just a solo session to learn a new hobby . read more

A fantastic space in the West Adams district of LA. Right on the busy street of Jefferson and easy to see from the road. I took an introductory handbuilding class here and the instructor Eunice was fantastic. She took us through two easy projects, slab building and pinch pot. A good foundation to do even more handbuilding projects. We met on Sundays and the time was great for me. The space is clean and spacious for the students and you can see members working on their projects in the space as well. I did have a few quibbles about the class. They really do restrict you to two projects. No extra work would be fired in the kiln. Also, there isn't extra studio time if you wanted more time to perfect your projects. Many other studios allow this so it seemed odd that they don't. I wish there were more weekend classes because my work schedule only allows for that time at the moment. I definitely would've liked to take handbuilding class 2 at POT. I do like the people and the space is calming to be creative. Maybe if they have those classes at a time that works I will go again. read more

Mandy at pot gardens provided horrible customer service when confronted about my missing pottery. Four hundred dollars of my hard earned money was spent under the impression that I would be able to paint and pick up my pottery in a timely fashion, not only did they donate my pottery after failing to notify me to pick it up, but I couldn't even pick the darn paint color! What the hell is a color of the month ??! I was SCAMMED they are NOT for the community they want to steal your money!!!! read more

I took a class. Overall, I found it restrictive compared to other pottery studios in Los Angeles. I wish I had known the pros and cons before taking the class. Pros: Mission of the studio. Very ethnically diverse class. Good pottery wheels. Easy parking. Teacher was nice and helpful. Cons: In a month class, you can make two pieces. Your only given half pounds to work with, so max you make two three inch bowls/cups. You can't practice outside of class time. Amount of clay you get during class to practice is restricted. Teacher was often hard to hear because there they were soft spoken and there was always music playing. Class time was often not efficient. Example, 45 minutes was spent on cantering one piece for trimming. read more

Unfortunately the office assistant, VANNY VONG, made it impossible to book a private party, not accommodating and very rude. Very disappointed that this was our first experience with the new shop. At $85 a person, for a party of 6, you would hope you would get better service and more accommodation. Won't be recommending to the neighbors. read more

My niece recently attended the summer pottery class for youth at POT... In her own words, "It's so much fun!!!" She was a little bit younger than some of the other kids, but her instructor made sure to give her extra attention so that she had an equal opportunity to learn. Over 4 weeks, she learned the basics of sculpting and made a few really cute pieces of artwork. Then, at the last class they painted and fired their work. I cannot wait to see how they turn out! a great introduction to pottery for a friend and i. it was a little overwhelming at first, but thankfully the instructors were able to help out and answer our questions. be sure to be proactive with your questions; there's a decent amount of people per class so they don't have enough time to check in on everyone individually. we did the mug making workshop and got our mugs within a month. the glazing came out great which is nice, since we didn't get to glaze it ourselves. will come back for another class soon! read more

i've taken wheel throwing 1 and 2. 1 was a great introductory class. 2 seemed more fast-paced and independent, which i don't think it should be IMO. they're very adamant about only being able to take two pieces home, which are pretty small in the beginner classes due to the amount of clay given. the parking isn't great depending on the day/time of class. i expected something a little more interactive with others, but maybe due to covid things weren't that way. unless you come with a friend, no one really talks unless it's to the instructor. classes are diverse, which is great for a poc-owned business. read more

I took my first class here with zero prior experience, and something about the teachers, the way they teach, the way the class is structured, and the inclusive premise of this woman-owned studio, all comes together into a supportive and freeing experience that really opens you up to doing your thing. The space is beautiful yet relaxed, and though it's pretty big, they've divided it into comfortable, initmate areas. They offer classes for the beginner all the way to specialized skills, and announce new class offerings and specialty workshops each month.
