I have been going here since it started. Very friendly employees. They have a good variety of beer and wines and prices are very reasonable. I usually get the Singha from Thailand or Sapporo, Asahi or Kirin from Japan. Occasionally I get some local DC, Maryland craft brews. Did you know that County owned beer and wine stores are closed on Sunday's? Well, I found out and I needed a bottle of bubbly to celebrate a special occasion! Luckily, I found Potomac Beer and Wine. I parked in the back and walked around to the front of the store. The parking was convenient and easy. It is a fairly large store and the manager was very helpful when I asked his opinion about a brand of bubbly. The store is well stocked and had a lot of choices. It is a little higher priced than a county store, but you are paying for the convenience. The store is very clean and everyone wore masks. The manager enforced the 6 feet apart limit between customers. I will definitely be back. Thank you! read more

I was a regular here for more than 10 years. They are generally friendly but here is the reasons for my 1 star rating. 1) Once I got a bad bottle of red wine (cab) from them which had sediment in it. Upon opening it, it didn't smell right, and when I poured it in my glass I saw sediment in the wine. I did take a sip, and immediately knew that the wine was not good. When I discussed this with the owner, he said the wine was 'unfiltered' and therefore had sediment in it. This is the craziest thing I ever heard of. I've been drinking wine for the last 25 years. Only wine that has sediment in it is wine that has gone bad/not stored properly. He did offer to give a replacement if I returned the unused bottle. I had dumped out the wine because it was putrid and threw out the bottle. I'm talking about a $12 bottle of wine and a customer of his for last 10 plus years. Really???? That was the last time I went there. So in recap, yes they are convenient, they are pretty nice, but their prices are not good and they do not know how to treat customers. So advice is a) Try nakedwines.com or another online wine store. They have excellent selections, will deliver to your house, and are the same price or less than this 'beer and wine' store. b) In life, be nice but not too nice. I have always tried to be a nice person, but when I'm taken advantage of by a store owner I need to stop going to their store. read more

Been coming here for many years so this is a long overdue review! The owners here are lovely. Always helpful and offering to help with getting purchases to the car. Good selection of beer and wine, and they have some really nice quality, reasonably-priced wines that you wouldn't necessarily expect to find in a neighborhood store like this. The owners of this store are wonderful! They are thoughtful and kind. The selection of beer and wine is very good. They get to know their customers and make sure to keep stock on your favorite wine and will order your favorite if they don't have it. My husband is handicapped and they insist on carrying his purchase to the car for him. We are die hard customers! read more

I've been going to this store more than a decade. It's well-stocked and well-run. The prices are about average, but it's more than made up for by the helpful and courteous service I always receive. I lcannot believe the claim by another reviewer who wrote of poor service. I remember being there once when, for lack of a better term, a "street person" came into the store while I was there, and I was pleasantly surprised at how genuinely polite and helpful the staff were to him. read more

So they are all good as long as you do not park in the public parking space behind the store. There are about 14 spaces only 5 full and the guy has to come and chase me away when all i was doing was sitting in my car, working on my laptop, and smoking a cigar. Seriously. if the lot was full I would move no worries, but it was not. read more

See Milind's review below...he is not alone, same thing happened to me. I had a horrible experience after a number of years. I purchased a bottle of wine that was past its time. I called to try and let them know I would be returning it immediately. Their phone is the owners cell number, which I had to call as many as four times, a first three times when I called and was immediately clicked off. Not good...then I was able to leave a message for him. No response. I went back the next day and I am told exchange only no credit back to the card or cash refund, no problem for me, just picked another wine and left. He was a little belligerent about it. Same thing happened yesterday evening bought a French Ch 2015 92 Pts sticker on it from Wine Enthusiast, and completely gone no fruit, going to vinegar in a bottle, wife though same. Took it back today, he starts yelling at me accusing me I was the only one that did these exchanges (two in what ten years/), another customer was standing there too, she was getting uncomfortable with his yelling, "You know nothing about wines!" I'm thinking really to myself yeah a$$hole I have 10.4 cases of Ch. Figeac 2015 in my cellar and they are not alone. Laugh....so hes yelling at me, she leaves. Then my turn. Lets just say he certainly was not expecting my response. He said never come back again. Really, he thinks I'm spending my there ever again. Idiot! I'll let my money do the talking! My parting shot is the review I told him I'd put up. They do not taste the wines from their distributors at all, they only want your money, and if you have an issue they don't know or want you as a customer, since they take your experience as a personal insult to them, which in turn means your disrespecting their culture. No business acumen other that giving me my money back, against their business doctrine of no refunds, when smiling and all I wanted was an exchange? For one lousy bottle? Made the mistake of forgiving them after the first fiasco. Milind you are indeed correct. Avoid these Rude people at all costs and shop elsewhere as quality and service for the customer ends when you pay and walk out the door. Really nice people. If I asked for an advice, they suggest some wines and the selection has always been good. They are very accommodating, just very nice, and even carry the wines into my truck. They might be a bit more expensive than Montgomery County Liquor stores, but they carry wines that I can't find anywhere else, and I do like to help small businesses. read more

I bought a 12-pack of beer from Potomac Beer & Wine to serve to guests at an important dinner party. The entire batch turned out to be spoiled, and when I called them on the phone to complain, the owner said there was nothing he could do. He insisted that he could not talk about this on the phone and that I would need to come in--so I immediately got in my car and drove over. No doubt he thought I wouldn't bother to come in. The owner told me there was nothing he could do and that he would not refund or exchange the beer. Fine, I told him--call your distributor and tell him he gave you a bad case of beer. He refused, saying the distributor would not listen to him; he said that I should call. Fine, I told him--give me the name and number of your distributor and I will call him. He refused. He said there was no proof that the beer I bought was spoiled other than the taste...in other words, he did not believe me. He then said I should contact the Montgomery Liquor Control board; I said "OK" and asked for the name and number of anyone he knows there; he refused to tell me. I then asked for his--the owner's--name and the phone number of the store, both of which he refused to tell me. He noticed that I was getting frustrated because he was giving me NOTHING to go on, so he brusquely said, "This conversation has gone on too long. Please leave my store." Total disrespect. This is one of the worst consumer experiences I've had. At the end of it all, I really could have used a nice, cold beer! So I left PB&W, got into my car, drove to the courteous County-run liquor store half a mile away in Fallsgrove and bought a six-pack from there. Do yourself a favor and skip PB&W entirely. Instead, get your beer from Costco, the county store in Fallsgrove, or really anywhere else. This place doesn't know how to treat its customers. read more
