My personal favourite place to buy meat, veggies and bread…read more Big barn type market in the centre of Newcastle. Numerous stalls that offer all types of different services. Numerous award winning butchers that offer prime cuts of meat, fantastic mince and healthy plump chickens and eggs! Wonderful bakery that makes the best breads and pastry I have tried. Wonderful vegetables and fruit stands where you get can a serious deal on great vegetables. Cheapest and most authentic pick and mix selection I have ever seen Fish monger, show repair, tea shop, cafes, clothing and boot sale, cd shops, home repair, clothing alterations ... Even a room with a scale in it! Grainger Market is magical. A must see, I consider the market a tourist attraction because of how traditional it is. The people in the booths all seem very authentic and very helpful.

It took me far too long to actually go to Grainger market. I love places with lots of little…read moreindividual businesses. I was used to markets being places with cheap tat and someone with a thick Black Country accent yelling from a van about sausages, and it's just definitely not like that here. There are still veggies, butchers (and decent cheeses to boot), but there are some seriously talented craftspeople too. It's good for a look around even if you don't feel like buying anyth8ng, odds are you probably will end up doing so.

Arts and crafts, unique gifts, jewellery and iconic photos showcasing Newcastle are all on offer as well as a huge variety of food and drink to keep you fuelled along the way! Being Geordie proud and ignoring my Mancunian roots I love perusing the merchandise and photos of local landmarks or scenery.....I even admit to buying a new phone case with the Tyne Bridge on yesterday! I also indulged in some delicious Indian street food after a lot of umming and ahhing over whether to have a Geordie banger or lebanese chicken or head straight for the sweet selection of waffles or cakes. The pathway along the quayside is rather narrow once the market stalls are set up so even though the road is closed off it is still quite congested so expect to get caught up in people traffic. Whether you are just window shopping, on the hunt for a bargain or unique gift or simply there to taste the food....there's something for everyone and it's worth a visit.

The selection of foods on offer is top class, everything from German Bratwurst to pulled pork to doughnuts. The quality of the products on offer is evidenced by the swathes of people that descend on the quayside every Sunday to take part in the market. Like most people in Newcastle, the people at the market are very friendly. When buying some scented candles, we were sniffing tens of different types before making a decision. The seller was only too happy to help us out in making the best choices. Prices are decent across the market. Not crazily expensive, making this an affordable Sunday morning activity for the entire family. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Newcastle.
