Me and my friends go here all the time and it's one of our favorite spots to play soccer, frisbee and just any sport or game.

I remember going to Powderhorn Park as a kid. Happy to see it still around and well maintained. I've been here just to walk and/or chill, the art fair and more recently went for a pride event. The event was pretty chill. They had vendors, free food, live performances and such going on. Parking was all street. I parked 2 blocks down into the surrounding neighborhood. There is a lake - Powderhorn lake. The water didn't look the best as far as swimming or anything but generally nice for the views. There is a playground & wading pool. This little park has a special place in my heart. It has two playground areas for kids. One is brand new (summer 2025). Complete with a fun little lake to walk around that wouldn't be too far even for the smallest walkers. Pair with a stop at May Day Cafe and you've got a great morning. read more

We come here for walks sometimes, but recently they had an art fair around the entire pond. They had hundreds of vendors! It was wonderful with so much to see!! They also have a splash pad and small kiddie pool here in the summer. read more

Powderhorn is an old park... I played here when I was a kid, so to see my niece playing basketball here as a kid is nostalgic. Ambiance: it's a park that has one of our 10,000 lakes. There's a small parking lot and street parking around this residential neighborhood. Inside is decently clean. No issues with the restrooms or anything like that. The gym was also clean. Service: The two ladies who ran the consession stand were pleasant and kept the building smelling like fresh popped popcorn. I wish for a 9am basketball game on a Saturday morning that they sold COFFEE. All the parents would thank them! Trust me! LOL read more

If you were within earshot of me and my boyfriend at Powderhorn last night, you would have shoved goose sh*t in your ears and jumped in the lake. Our incessant, "Oh wow!" "Look at that!" "This is so nice here!" "Woa!" was undoubtedly unbearable. A couple of our friends who live near this park had us over and gave us a tour of this extensive area. Every step we took we ooed and ahhed at something new we saw. There are a couple playgrounds, sand pit, swimming pool, lake, rolling hills, and a community center to name a few of its offerings. There's sledding and ice skating in the winter and swimming and picnic-ing in the summer. There is also a canoe that has cat fish swimming inside of it? And a drumline? And if that's not enough, there were fire dancers last night. That's right, when you think you've seen everything here, someone shows up and near-engorges themselves in flames for the art of entertainment. I love it here. Totally found this park by accident even though I live right by it! Never knew it was there, it's hidden well, even though it's huge! They even have a pool that appears to be free to go in but I haven't tried it. One of the days we went there was a free play in the park, which was very cool. Our dogs love it and it gives them a nice "greener" walk than the "greenway" which we also take them on. Haven't been here for a winter yet but I'm guessing by the bowl shape of the park it would be a great sledding place. I"ll have to re-review it after the winter. If you haven't gone, GO! It's a great escape from the urban surroundings as someone else said. read more

This 64 acre- park does what parks are supposed to do--truly bring the community that surrounds it together in a way that is equally representational of the neighborhood. I love all the different people and activities I experience whenever I go there. Here are some activities hosted by the park to name a few: May Day Celebration! July 4th fireworks MLK Jr. Celebration A small, somewhat grimy lake that is actually stocked with fish Coached sports including soccer, football, basketball pick-up games of soccer, volleyball and basketball outside and in the gymnasium Computer lab Commercial kitchen Baseball fields Big old trees Pottery classes Voting Neighborhood meeting Toddler sports classes Art fair Family camp Neighborhood meeting rooms Walking/jogging paths Exercise stations 4-5 playground areas Ice skating and warming house Great sledding The 2nd annual Art Sled Rally this Sat 1/30/10 at 2pm Animal Convergence(giant animal puppets converge on frozen Powerhorn Lake right after the sled rally) The only thing that seems missing lately is music and movies in the park, which I may do something about. read more

You gotta love the park that hosts the annual Art Sled Rally. My friends and I went as a six pack of Grain Belt Premium last year. I was the one who crashed through the front of the sled as it EXPLODED on a bump we hit on the way down. :) We also had a great night of sledding in the awesome snowfall we had later in February. I usually attend the May Day parade, too. Powderhorn is awesome! read more

I am quite fond of this park. Its one of my favorites in the city. The ducks are superb and enjoy seeds and breads you bring them. The Cedar Lake or Wirth ducks are snobs, and wont even come close to you. Not the Powderhorn ducks though....they're out in full force a-quack-quack-quackin away and wanting to be pals. Granted, the relationship is based solely around me giving them food...but it works for both of us. I also spent 4th of July evening here with a big group of kids. Had a blast, we drank lots....it was one of the funnest 4th of Julys I have had in many years. The art fair also rules. Go hang out here and feed ducks. read more

I love this neighborhood park. It draws a mixed crowd, which is part of what I love about it. Its not super huge, but it has a nice body of water, and lots of open space for picnic-ing. Powderhorn does a great job hosting events- I always go to the art festival. The May Day Festival is on odd-ball fest, in the most delightful way. They have a 4th of July daytime party, but I believe I heard they can't do fireworks anymore. Boo. I love this place because its quirky, like the neighborhood. read more

I've been to Powderhorn Park plenty of times but have never gotten around to reviewing it so here goes: -Super spacious with a small lake, hills (perfect for sledding), playgrounds, picnic tables, etc. throughout -An awesome recreation center where you can take group fitness classes (which are outside in the park when it's nice!), take kids for various activities/programming, etc. -PERFORMANCE ART AND FESTIVALS galore! May Day, Art sleds, 4th of July, and many many more community gatherings take place here Overall, it's a great spot and is essential to the community-building that has made the Powderhorn neighborhood so strong. read more

This park is, in my opinion, one of the best places in Minneapolis. The park itself is very clean and attractive. There is a nice walking trail, many people walk their dogs here. Also, two playgrounds on opposite sides, one of which has a swimming pool. Once a year the Mayday Festival is held here which is a lot of fun and full of creative artwork, and there is a performance put on by Heart of the Beast theatre. read more

This park is one of my favorite parks in the state. Very family oriented and friendly people. The park is very clean. Today they had the Mayday festivities. So many people here today on the sunniest May Day festival in years. There are four or more different playgrounds for children to enjoy. They had a lot of entertainment on at least four different stages The food vendors were reasonably priced. My favorite part is the sun ceremony. The drum jam following the festivities by drummers who Close out the festival very year is simply amazing.. If you are ever here in Minneapolis on May day or any other time be sure to check it out. It's shocking to me that this park only has 10 reviews. It is absolutely beautiful, with multiple playgrounds and much green space. The best part, however, has to be Lake Powderhorn. On one occasion, I had the pleasure of seeing mallards, wood ducks, Canada geese (with goslings!), cormorants, and a great blue Heron. I would highly recommend this park, especially if you have a love of wildlife. read more

A lovely park in a basin that the glaciers somehow missed. Powderhorn Lake, a large pond with an island in the middle, adds a refreshing serenity to this park. Provides a peaceful respite just South of the busy E Lake St. shopping/restaurant district in South Minneapolis. Last August, it was somewhat of a small den for RNC protesters. There are 3 baseball diamonds w/ adult leagues in the Summer, and plenty of space for the frequent pickup soccer games that are ushered in slowly by the thawing of the city. Several tennis courts as well, though there are no basketball courts. Lots of dog-walkers around too, even in the Winter. The park is kept pretty clean...very low on the empty 40s factor, and remarkably low on litter. As nice a park as I've been to in Minneapolis. The Mayday Parade, my favorite parade of the year in Minnesota, ends in an incredible ceremony, performed by the neighborhood's very own Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater (http://www.hobt.org/), in this park. It was attending this event that convinced my girlfriend Leah and I to move to this neighborhood and make full use of this wonderful park. read more

I bring my son here for the toddler Thursday indoor play. It was amazing over the winter to have a place to bring him to release some energy! Some of the parents are a bit odd, but in an attached parenting gone wild kind of way. Harmless in the end, and full of love. Many organic snacks abound in this hood. read more

I had a recent community event at Powderhorn Park and was surprised by how great the park is. There is a nice pond, great community center, kiddie pool, parking, and a green space to play and enjoy the day. Many neighbors come to the park to stroll and explore, and I got the feeling that this might be a place for neighbors to meet and mingle. There was also a diversity to the group that left me wanting to stay and chat with people. I highly recommend the community center for any event that you might want to hold and the park itself for a picnic. read more
