I wanted to get some bottled water out of the vending machine but it didn't accept credit cards or change, only $1 bills. I didn't have any ones, so I went to the front desk and asked for change for a five. The front desk person said, "Sorry, we don't make change." I explained that I needed ones for the vending machine because wanted some bottled water and it didn't accept anything except $1 bills. She said, "I don't make change but some of my coworkers do" but it was 10:00 pm and there weren't any other employees around.

And if you're expecting the yummy cinnamon rolls for breakfast, you'll also be rolling the dice. For our stay, they had plastic wrapped honey buns. I ended up taking my son to urgent care where he was prescribed steroids. Here's the thing... we have insurance and money to travel frequently and pay for hotel rooms. For some folks, this might have been the only hotel stay they'd have for years. And some folks don't have insurance. If that'd been us, this would have been a big deal. IHG and the hotel management need to treat every guest as if this was their one hotel stay ever. As if they'd spent their savings to pay for a room. Because that's NOT their approach to customers, I'll stay elsewhere. (Friend just texted and asked me about this review which reminded me... I talked to the hotel manager on Monday. Told her the room smelled weird (like sicky sweet) when we got there at midnight, but that we couldn't really leave since it was so late. She said it was probably because an old lady stayed there before us and "you know how old ladies smell". ) Really... stay somewhere else.

BEWARE DO NOT PATRONIZE WITH THIS BUSINESS…read more The Wilsonian Event Center and owner Gaynell Stallings is a complete disgrace to the Wilson community. I am highly disappointed that the city has allowed this person to treat the citizens of Wilson in such a poor manner and remain quite. My brother in law and I rented the space for a 50th birthday party. Leading up to the event, I made sure all lines of communication were clear with all vendor to ensure our party went smoothly. Upon arrival, the owner appeared under the influence and alcohol was smelled on her breath by multiple vendors. While setting up our event our decorator ran into an issue as there was only one working electrical outlet. Ms. Stallings was clearly aware of this (based on previous reviews) but failed to let us know during the booking process. Later in the evening she returned to the event clearly intoxicated. She walked around the event taking pictures/videos of our private event. Ms. Stallings was never given permission to post our pictures and/or use it for her personal advertisements. When I noticed she had too much to drink I asked our carters to provide her with food out of concern. After eating she left the event. Ms Stallings returned back to the building at 1:10 am and continued to be intoxicated. She was agitated and refused to complete the walk through per her contract. I asked her several times if the condition of the building met her standards but her focus was for us to vacate the building. She proceeded to turn the lights off and stated "it's time for everyone to go". I explained to her we were not leaving until all our belongings were retrieved and asked her to turn the lights back on. During the exchange, I expressed how disappointed I was and requested that we talk further on Monday regarding my brother in laws deposit for the building rental . I called her on Monday, 1/16/23 at 8:30 as arranged to follow up. She stated that she was going to deduct $50 dollars from the $500 deposit due to the floors not being mopped. This was untrue as we had hired a cleaning service to clean, which was completed prior to her arrival. At this point, it's obvious that she had an agenda to keep his money. We agreed on $450 as the return deposit. On Tuesday 1/17/23 I called back at 9:30 am to discuss the pick up time for the deposit. During that call she proceeded to tell me she was deducting more money off the deposit . She stated that someone went to mop the floors at the site unbeknownst to her and charged her $ 150. I find it hard to believe that she knew nothing about this arrangement. I had no other choice but to agree so that my brother in law would at least receive some of his deposit. We agreed for pick at 11:30 am. My sister arrived to Ms. Stallings home with law enforcement to secure our deposit and she refused. Unbeknownst to us, Ms. Stallings has a LONG history of STEALING deposits. According to other tenants, she tends to refuse the walk through so she can say things were not done per her check list. This has been a very exhausting and disheartening ordeal for my family and I. We have decided to pursue legal action at this time. It is my hope that our story will save you time and money. Her business practices are unacceptable. At one point Ms. Stallings had the audacity to bring up Black Lives Matter. WHY? Perhaps, because the majority of the attendees at the event are BLACK. As a strong black family in this community we don't need to pull the race card for this fight. The proof is evident and FACTS are FACTS. Ms. Stallings is operating a faulty business and this has been happening for years according to her past renters. Let me add, when we arrived the building was filthy. Trash on the floor. Bathroom floors dirty, the kitchen had roaches on the floor and there were still Christmas decorations at the site Our caters had to assist her with taking down the Christmas tree. We did not make a big deal out this because it was crunch time. Please note I have videos of everything. This matter could have been handled differently but Ms. Stallings forced my hand when she refused to return my brother in laws deposit. BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS!

Fast forward 5 years and the cart paths have received no repairs. My wife and I stopped in after work to get in as many holes as we could before sunset. It was around 5:30 and the old guy in the pro shop acted like he didn't want us to play and quoted me the price for 18 holes, which was 33% higher than the prices they have listed on their website. I reluctantly agreed to the higher amount, but just before I handed him the cash, I asked what time the carts had to be in. He said 7:00. I asked why so early and he said this was to allow the cart guy to get home timely. Needless to say, you cannot possibly play 18 holes in 90 minutes yet he tried to charge me this. I asked about a 9 hole rate and he quoted me the price they have posted on their website for 18 holes. Because I really wanted to play some golf for the first time this year, I forked over the cash. After the first hole, my wife had wrenched her back due to the condition of the cart path. We pull up to the second tee box and there is a huge tree down in the fairway along with 3 pieces of heavy machinery. It was at this point that I thought about returning to the pro shop and asking for a refund, but I really didn't want to deal with the rudeness again. Since no one was actually working on the tree, we hit our tee shots over this massive pile of debris. We continued on. On hole 3, we noticed the high school kid picking up the range balls WITH A SHAG BAG. I remembered someone telling me recently that they close the range around 5:00 so that it would allow time to pick up the balls. This means 1) you can't use the range after work and 2) they do not have proper equipment to pickup the range balls. We continued the bumpy ride, but had to slow considerably to avoid getting bounced out of the cart or damaging our clubs. I ended up hitting the ball decent enough to shoot 38 on the front, yet still hated the fact that I had played this course. I could shoot a higher score elsewhere and enjoy it much better than having to endure what we went through. My wife's back was hurting too much for her to finish. The course is in HORRIBLE shape. Every green has huge bare dead spots. In my opinion, the 18 hole rate should be no more than $10 due to the condition of the course. Even at that rate, I would prefer to play elsewhere. BTW, there was one bright note. I got the cart turned in at 7:05 and started walking to my car. Just as I was almost to my car, the high school kid was calling out to me. I turned around and he was bringing me my sunglasses that I had left in the cart. HE was the best part of this experience!

There were very few options that fit my dietary needs. I ultimately ordered the ribs, but the only sides available to me were the sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts. All three items came with sauces, which made the overall meal feel overly sauced and heavy. My husband ordered the hush puppies and said they had good flavor, but they seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while rather than coming out fresh. The ribs themselves were cooked well, but the sauce was extremely vinegar-forward--not sweet, but quite tangy. Combined with the balsamic glaze on the Brussels sprouts and the brown sugar and possible maple syrup on the sweet potatoes, everything together felt a bit overwhelming in terms of sauces and sweetness. For those with food allergies, be prepared to order à la carte and expect limited choices for sides. I would consider dining here again, but next time I'd make more selective choices to better suit my dietary restrictions.

I called to make a reservation about a month in advance, as we were a group of 26. The staff I worked with over the phone leading up to the dinner was friendly, helpful and communicative. They called to confirm about a week prior and asked if we wanted to create any special menus for our event, which was a very nice gesture. On the day of, the restaurant called for a final confirmation and offered us the private back room for the evening. This worked out perfectly! The food was absolutely incredible and exceeded expectations. The team all enjoyed their meals, which was a variety of orderings, and the adults raved about the dishes ordered, as well. The shrimp and grits was perfection, the French onion soup was flavorful and perfect after a cold, rainy day and the pork chop was seasoned incredibly. The waitstaff worked so hard to accommodate our large group and even helped us divide up billing, which is always a huge ask. We had a fun and scrumptious evening at an amazing locally owned restaurant! If you are in or around Wilson, NC do yourself a favor and eat at Jack's!
