HORRIBLE! Terrible customer service as they will come up with any excuse to get you to hang up. If they don't have an excuse, then they hang up on you! I had a bill that totaled $700 for one month when we normally run no more than $150. They said that was normal???????? It would be easier to rip my own teeth out than to have them acknowledge I paid on time! The call queue is long so they claim they will call you back but don't hold your breath! My bill is due on the 6th each month and I can always count on them sending an email threatening to shut off my power by the 15th if I don't pay. Wasn't aware the mafia was in the power business! Worse than poor service. Calls drop random bill excuses. I got a bill abnormally high. I asked for a tech to come to the house to observe our home and be shown what is causing this huge bill. I got excuses and no service. Now I'm getting phone calls every day about paying a bill when I had already set up a budget plan with them... Pp&l should be cut up and sold. Terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE customer service; especially over the phone. My bills don't come in the mail half of the time. I have to call to get my account number which takes at least a half hour wait over the phone. Their portal doesn't work and I cant create an account to pay a bill manually. I called PPL to discuss my electric bill, and there was a long wait so I opted for a call back. I did get my call back, but the customer service rep that called me had a really bad attitude, she was over talking me when I was asking questions about my account. She also put me on a 13 minute hold and never got back to me during that 13 minutes to explain why she has me on hold, and she was rude to me when she did pick up, but when I asked her for her first and last name , she became so sweet. I set up a payment plan for an overdue balance in December and have faithfully made these payments prior to each month's due date. The person in charge of customer service should be immediately terminated. PP&L provides the absolute worst customer service of any company that I have dealt with in 50 years. Ordered service on January 31, was turned on and two days later turned off. Called again, waited 84 minutes for an agent, was told it was turned on immediately, it was not, called again, waited 91 minutes for an agent, was told it will be turned on, that day, it was not. Called again, waited 72 minutes for an agent, was told it will be turned on tomorrow. Now 6 days later still no service read more

I've been trying since August 2019 to get clarity as to WHY an account I had with you that has been PIF since then, has been sent to collections and why you guys won't update any info?! It's been 5 months! It most certainly should have been updated by now! I have asked for payment info previously but I was advised that it was not possible? Which I thought was sketchy because I should be able to have access since it was my account! Not only that, if you guys can't do your part in being professional to your costumers and update there info, I was doing my part to TRY and get my payment history so that way I could send PROOF to the collection agencies that you somehow "fowarded" my account to that it has in fact BEEN PAID IN FULL SINCE AUGUST 2019. PPL is the WORST! Customer service hung up on me 3 times today. There was no power on the property for almost 3 months, from when the April tornado knocked it out until several weeks after we sold the property in June. During the outage, they made up estimated bills and still want us to pay them even though they are bogus. They refused to understand that we shouldn't be responsible to pay their estimated bills if the power on the property is physically disconnected and wasn't re-connected until after we sold the property. read more

My son just got service with PPL. They are charging him a 600 dollar security deposit and will not break it up over even six months. He's 19 and this is his first electric service. I've never in my life heard of a utility company charging so much for a deposit then refusing to work with you. The bill itself seems abnormally high. What's wrong with these people? read more

Such a shame this is the ONLY company you have to use them to have electricity. I barely turn on my AC or heat and I don't know why I have a 300 plus bill!! I asked if I would be able to use the ontrack program they have (which initially I didn't know about until I had to investigate because their workers never mentioned it) and then I read that I do qualify for it and now some worker is telling me we don't... then why do they have it on their website wrong information! Then their workers that called me back basically don't even care about the children in the home that won't have any heat now cause I won't even turn it on in the morning cause I'm not going to be able to pay $300 for a bill and afford to buy groceries read more

I have been in the electrical business for about 36 years .. Me taking the time to thank the great guys in the metering department for politely and swiftly getting that part done on time . The line crew foremen in the Allentown area . The worst . Cocky, arrogant . Probably not all his fault . Their system is the worst by far I have ever experienced . The company is under staffed . The communication is rough at best . I takes 6 weeks following the receipt of final inspection to get on the schedule . They lose the cert. card untold amount of times . Aside from the actual service , just getting service took hundreds of phone calls and E mails over 6 months . That's a terrible that is hard to top . Renovated my home and had to have the power disconnected and re run to a new location on the property. After my inspection went smoothly, PPL assured me I would be hooked up with-in 3 weeks. The scheduled gave me a date for which i foolishly believed. After placing several calls and emails to the "designer" and the "scheduler" over many weeks, the only response i was given was an email saying, "not sure what happened, I'll look into it". Two weeks later, Still no reply and all phone calls go unanswered. I am not out several thousand dollars in order to pay my contractors to sit around in a hotel waiting for someone to respond. I understand this is a rural area but this is the most disorganized company I've ever been in contact with. Someone needs to step in here to ensure PPL is not the only choice people in this area have. Hope they go out of business soon. read more

Terrible Service w/ people who do not care. I am having a wet branch that is touching the electric line causing SPARKS/FLAME smoke and a loud zapping noise. Huge fire hazard that is very dangerous, the tree is within feet of our home. PPL rep. Shantell stated it could be up to 3 days for someone to come out and after waiting on hold for 7 minutes stated that all supervisors are busy and supervisors will return contact requests in the order they were received. She refused to hand a supervisor my phone number directly or treat the sparking as an emergency. I told her I was not satisfied and she still said there was nothing more she could do and chose to end the call. I am left hoping the tree doesn't catch on fire causing our home to burn with it. HORRIBLE!!! After 45 minutes waiting for a representative, I tell her my January bill was wrong and showed DOUBLE my normal use and it is an ERROR ON PPL's SIDE. She then says she cannot do anything about it and to go on the PPL website and see If I can request a refund. I said "Why can't you request it? She says I have no authorization to do that. This Rep was in North Carolina. So after searching, I tell her I don't see a refund button and then ask her to forward this issue to management. She then says she does not have the ability to do that either. Unbelievable! What kind of company is this? So then she says well um I think they're working on fixing these error bills. Honestly, she was just trying to get me to hang up. Also, I saw a letter on the main page of the website from the so called "president of PPL" apologizing and telling customers they will see a credit on their next bill. WELL, 2 BILLS LATER and STILL NO CREDIT! I just cancelled my budget billing today. I NO LONGER TRUST PPL. I want a bill where they cannot "estimate" my bill any longer. I just tried to pay my bill online and I am now not allowed to do that. I call customer service and was told I would need to make a double payment in order to be able to resume paying online like I've always done. This is the worst company and customer service I have ever delt with. I will be filling a complaint with the PUC. Forget setting up a payment plan or budget billing because they make it totally unaffordable. read more

I would give 0 stars to PPL if I could. This company has the worst service and customer service I have ever dealt with. A close friend of mine was in a domestic violence case and needed to cancel service with PPL immediately. The representative by the name of Donna DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help us! Even after we told her our situation and that the cops were involved!! Donna then told us that my friend's only option was to close the entire bank account and that PPL couldn't do ANYTHING for us.. Clearly she doesn't know how to do her job.. After we insisted on speaking to her supervisor after Donna gave us attitude and was being completely rude, she instead left us on hold for almost an hour!.. Thank you SO MUCH DONNA FOR YOUR TERRIBLE SERVICE! We later called my friend's bank and they actually helped us with our situation.. And it turns out we DID NOT have to close the bank account. No power since 9:30pm Monday. ALL OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS AROUND US HAVE POWER except our street. No downed lines in the area, no trees down - so what's the problem?!? EVERYTIME there is a power outage, our street is the absolute LAST to have power restored. This company is HEARTLESS!!! I lost my job the day after Christmas & was unemployed for several months. This meet that we fell behind on our bills. I just got a new job & wanted to pay my electric bill in 3 payments instead of 1 big lump & of course PP&L has refused. They told me pay over $1000 or we will shut your service off. i live on the 1000 block of main street in Bethlehem PA. Every time it rains or the wind blows our power goes out. This has been going on ever since the Hurricane we has last year. When the power goes out it is just the 1000 block. William Penn Elementary is right across the street and they are in the same boat as us. This issue is effect the tax payers because the school generator is running a lot because of the power going out. i am a web designer who works out of may home here at 1007 Main Street in Bethlehem PA. I have to shut down my equipment every time it rains or gets a little windy. I have issues now with some of my equipment because of the power failing constantly. I have filed an informal complaint with the Utilities Commission and am awaiting a response. I have little hope of a resolution to this problem because of the shear size of PP&L and their legal staff. Every time I have contacted PP&L I am told that they will send a message to the engineer and I never hear anything out of it and the problem is never repaired. PP&L should be held accountable for these issues and my losses because it affects my work greatly that the power flickers so frequently. My neighbors and may family are at our wits end regarding this matter and the lack of respect we receive from PP&L as paying customers. Advice from a customer of PP & L who is trying to make a payment on their account. I called today to make a payment on my account which I have/had a payment plan on due to a illness in my family. I was treated with nothing but disrespect and ignorance. The customer service representatives do nothing but either fight/argue or transfer you to another department. I was transferred 2-3 times. I explained my personal situation/circumstance and received not even a compassionate or understanding response. I was told when asked to speak to a supervisor "your gonna be told the same thing from them as me" and was given very robotic and scripted responses. All in an effort to MAKE A PAYMENT on my account! I have never been so offended and hurt. If anyone has issues with them they should call PUC # 1800-692-7380 and make a formal complaint as I am doing. I am in the start to file a legal complaint against this company. Yelp please create a "0" or no star category for PP & L Electric Utilities! The companies customer service department/billing department and over all are the worst I have seen in my almost 15 years of customer service related work. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! A service man visited today to say that they will cut service in 2 days if we did not send proof of identity that is notarized. Having just moved a few days ago, our mail was on hold at the post office and therefore we did not get their mail requesting for proof of identity on time. Now, being stressed from unpacking and adjusting to the new area, we now have to scramble looking for notary service that is still open after office hours. Moreover, they said they cannot extend the deadline to send the required documents. PPL, YOUR BUSINESS PRACTICES ARE OUTDATED! You should consider emailing and calling clients apart from sending mail for proof of identity. Or better yet inform us of this requirement at the time we requested for service. Also , having a notarized proof of identity is unnecessary these days (who still does that?). They are the only service company who asks for this. Even buying a house does not require this! read more

Very unhelpful representatives and notoriously long hold times to get a hold of a rep in their customer care. It is also very hard to get a hold of a rep because when you call in the system doesn't tell you approximate hold times and it only gives you an option for them to call you back. The problem with that is the call back times are VERY long and not accurate as to when PPL said they would call you back. Lastly getting basic account information is like pulling teeth. read more

Ppl turned my electricity off without any warning today & I do not have a missed payment either. I did not have a warning notice either. Obviously, I had to make the payment as this monopoly demanded or I would not only not have electric but not have heat either as my new gas heater requires electricity. Verified every payment I made for 2018 and 2019 with my online banking statements. Called Ppl back& started to get the run around about missing a payment. I asked the agent to please listen as I will give the payment dates and transaction amounts for 2018 & 2019 which are coming from actual banking transactions. When I informed her that two separate payments were debited from my bank account 5/2018 on the exact same day, she first tried to state my electricity was turned off because of a missed payment in 4/2018. However, when I gave her the dates of these transactions from Jan.-April 2018 she said to hold please. A few minutes later she returned stating, "It's because you missed a payment in October 2017." Two years ago? Well, I said I will go through all Ppl transactions in 2017. Honestly, my electricity was turned off today because I supposedly missed a payment in October 2017? I stated that if go through my banking transactions for 2017 and I did not find a missed payment will your excuse be that I missed one in 2016? I believe what they are doing is illegal. I suggest to everyone all you have to do is just have your banking transactions available. Always pay with your banking account as this is your proof. I feel very sorry for seniors and those who have vision and hearing deficits. This is so wrong and unethical. This is why many seniors think they are getting a better deal going with a different electric company and then they have to pay double for another fraudulent scheme. read more
