I've been there a few times. When I first made my appointment, I didn't like the idea of paying a $100 annual fee. I wasn't sure how often I would be going, and it felt like a lot on top of already paying for expensive health insurance. I really liked this practice when Amoah was there. After she left, I felt unseen and unheard. I have medical trauma, and doctor's offices make me very anxious and emotional because I've often felt like no one has truly helped me or understood me. Amoah was the first provider who seemed capable and genuinely interested in helping. After she left, I saw Cressy. I specifically chose a female provider and she was who I was scheduled with. After explaining my concerns, she bluntly told me, "I don't know how to help you." I wanted to like her and she wasn't terribly mean but hearing something like that really freaked me out coming from a doctor. I left feeling stunned, defeated, and in tears. I honestly haven't been back since, and I don't have any desire to return. The annual fee has now increased to $150 per year, which feels even harder to justify. The one bright spot was the in-office lab. The lab technician was incredibly kind, and I really liked her. Aside from that, this is not a practice I would recommend, especially for anyone with medical trauma who is looking for a provider who will listen and make them feel supported. read more

I've been going to PR Family Medicine for the last 10 years. I started off with Mr. Rochester and after he left, I've been with Dr. Papoi. My experience with Dr. Papoi has been great. We're pretty close in age and he knows exactly what I'm going through at any given time. He always listens to me and is always caring and wanting to get me well. I've had only 1 time when I needed to see him on the same day (just yesterday) and I was able to get an appointment that day. Anytime he's prescribed something for me, it has worked and worked wonderfully. He has a very pleasant demeanor and sincerely cares about his patients. My experience with the staff/front desk has also been equally pleasant. Whenever I'd call, whether it's for making an appointment or whether I needed a certain record document sent to me, or when asking for a prescription refill, they always provided me service with a smile, always pleasant and friendly on the phone, despite how busy they are. The only reason I'm giving them 4-stars and not 5-stars is due to the wait times. This is something that I, too, can attest to. There's usually a 30-45 min wait AFTER you've been called from the main waiting room into the smaller room where you're going to be seen, having arrived 15 mins prior to the appointment time, as is their policy, so add 15 mins to the 30-45 mins, and you'll have been waiting an hour total sometimes. Sitting in the actual examination room for more than 30 mins seems like an eternity, and there have been multiple visits that ended up being this way, so I'm kind of used to it now. I know that I'm going to have to wait. All in all, I've always had a good experience at PR Family Medicine and I would definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

I love this medical practice. I've been coming hear since about 2000, 20 years ago. I've used many of the Doctors including Dr. Papoi. Recently I've been with Dr. Zaft. He is kind and smart. My adult sons and daughters both still use Miss Kressy (sp?). It's a great practice. And I want to brag on one of their current receptionists that answers the phone: Jasmine. She has been very kind to me on the phone, which is a very rare thing these days in medical offices. The next time I see her I'd like to had her a $50 bill to say thank you! Find another provider. First of all my regular provider is Dr. Sandburg. SHE is amazing and wonderful and the only reason I will return to this practice (she is currently on maternity leave and I couldn't get an appointment with her today) Also the phlebotomist they had was WONDERFUL and I hope she is on vacation or a leave of absence and is still there. The one star rating is for the visit I had today. Dr Papoi (I think that's who I saw - he never introduced himself and I had to ask the front desk as I left who it was that I saw ) was one of the rudest doctors or health care workers that I have ever met. My wait was almost an hour and a half (that really isn't the worst part of this visit since a long wait here is usually typical) but that was not what turned me off. He was arrogant and did not have time or any inclination to listen to my concerns about my health and why I was there today. I was treated as if I was an imposition on his time and energy to be there. It was an awful experience on a day that I am feeling terrible and really needed some help. Speaking of the office staff. I have read the reviews from other people and this has been my experience in the past too. They are not always very pleasant or efficient and I'm not sure why they can't get better help or train their staff. They also almost act (most of the time) like they are mad that you are there. Don't they realize that the patients are the reason they have a job? Just a really bad way to run an office. My advice is to get a provider other than PR Family Medicine UNLESS you can get an appointment with Dr. Sandburg. Avoid Dr. Papaoi unless you just want to feel worse than you already feel. I'm so sad that this is the way I have to offer my feedback. My husband and I have both spoken to our providers, but they say they have little to do with the front desk. First, I will start with the positives - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the phlebotomist - she is absolutely fantastic and it is so convenient to have blood work done in the office quickly and painlessly. Additionally, LabCorp's portal is fantastic and you see your results quickly. I also generally happy with our providers, although it has gotten harder and harder to get in for a sick appointment within a reasonable amount of time. Our main issue is that way the office staff deals with phone calls. I have now had FOUR disastrous interactions. The first time I was told that I needed to provide information (mg) for my prescriptions to request a refill. Since I was not at home I said, "you guys prescribe it, can you check the dosages?" The answer was a curt "I don't have your chart in front of me." Okay, hmm. Moving on, the next time I called I was cut off rudely when I gave additional information about when I had my labwork done. The person who answered said, "I didn't ask you that, why are you telling me?" Whoa. I just thought the information might be helpful? Now I've been waiting a week for a prescription to be refilled. This medication is not supposed to be interrupted - I am supposed to keep taking it weekly. No refill was provided. I called and was told I'd get a call back. No call back. Called today and they said the prescription was called in on 11/22. Called the pharmacy - pharmacy said they have not received a call. What is going on? I hate it, but I am changing practices. I'm hoping to find a practice with a portal, and one that uses emails so that I can share my feedback with the doctors and not the front desk people who are already unpleasant and rude to me. read more

The office is primitive. They don't use email. Only fax or in-person document exchange. They use wrong charge codes, and provide wrong codes to the associated lab work, resulting in unnecessary charges. read more

I see Dr. Papoi and have been happy with him after someone referred me to him. He's through and answers my questions. The issue I have with the practice is their online access. They have no online appointment system. I have no way to contact my doctor via email directly if I have a question. Every time I call for a refill they ask me for what I take, dosage, and times a day. This needs to be in a computer that they can reference and just verify with me. It's 2020, and they need to get onboard with online functions that almost all other places I have gone to use. read more

I have been a patient for about 10 years and recently received a letter stating that I was delinquent and must find a new doctor. That notice along with the bill for $10 had been sent to my old address, and forwarded mail had not been rerouted timely. Either way, I received a bill at my new address, so they had it somehow, and promptly called to pay by phone but the person that handles that was out so I mailed a check which has been confirmed as received. Still though, 'fired' from my long time physician over $10 without so much as a phone call??? Not sure how "family" fits in the name. They get 1 star for convenience, they can do lab work right there and most of the staff is nice. I won't miss them though, happy to have to go somewhere else. read more

My whole family goes to PR Family Medicine. The doctors, PA's and nurses are all great, especially with our 15month old son. We've never had a problem getting an appointment quickly- The only downside to a smaller practice is that many complicated tests require referrals, but for basic care and illnesses, we love the care we get here. read more

This is a good example of a terrible operation from the point of the patient. I went in for my initial physical exam and was told at reception that my insurance covered this general physical. 45 days later I got a $130+ bill from the doctor's office & from my insurance company which said the coding by physician was different than General Physical. When I confronted the physician's office they told me well you have diabetes. Nothing they did was out of the ordinary. Even the reviewer said it looked like a general physical but they had to go by the coding. When I ask at the front desk the biller told me that the front desk doesn't know what they're talking about you can't listen to them. We bill what we think is appropriate. Despite my telling them if they look at the record there was nothing unusual other than height weight and general questions by the assistant along with a few minutes with the doctor, it was nothing unusual. Basically they said that's the way it goes. Clearly they're interested in maximizing their billing. This was springtime and I made a point of not going back there for the year. I have since been able to switch providers and have switched to Kaiser. I can't say enough about positive about Kaiser, the organization, the Physicians, the staff, and the concern for what is needed is exemplary. The cost is as described which is very cost-effective for anybody on a middle-class income. Skip PR Family Medicine and look at Kaiser. You really won't regret it. read more

We have gone to PR Family Medicine for at least 10 years. When we first started to go it was always kind of okay. The doctor was sufficient enough. However, the staff from the beginning could use better manners and it's only become worse. They have two forms of administrative practice that I really think is very unprofessional. One is PR Fm. Med. turned in a bill to my insurance company and the insurance company made a mistake and the bill ended up not paid. Very small bill by the way $80.00. Pretty insignificant after 10 years of loyalty to the same doctor in the office. In any case I left a message to please send the bill again explaining why. I guess once again a message did not make it through to the right person and went not noticed and was not corrected. I never received a phone call regarding my bill just a really nasty letter explaining that if I did not pay the bill that not only could I never go back there for service EVER, but any family would also be rejected as patience, Aunts, nieces, uncles, cousins, etc. WOW, I can see a stern letter when someone has been a problem with their bills but this is just so unprofessional and ridiculous. I mean knee slapping ridiculous. I could not believe this. The second issue is that this office has like most Dr. offices have serious late fee if you do not cancel your appointment within 24 hours and are a no show. Okay I can see it. However, every Doctors office I have and have had including blood labs and MRI, Cat Scan companies call a few days or one day before the appointment to confirm. It's good practice especially if you make an appointment several months in advance like MRI or a return office visit. I would be happy to pay a late fee if I did not make it to the appointment. After all I have received good administrative skills from the business and treated with respect. It is not okay to make an appointment with a business and no show after the reminder from the office. PR Family medicine does not call you to remind you. Never have. A few times my husband has been to the office sent home and needed a return visit in two months. At check out the staff asks you to make the appointment and he usually does. Some of us are not that good with out calendars especially when we are not feeling that well.
