Expensive. By my math, from what I've experienced things to be priced for Indian cuisine, things were about 33% more expensive than they should have been. Two samosas were $10. A cup of Chai was $5. The lamb vindaloo was $20. Chicken Korma was $19. $7, $3, $15, $14, respectively, seem like normal prices in my experiences. Maybe it's Marin markup, but.. even compared to SF with that extra tax, this was a lot. The only thing that kind of came close to expectation was garlic naan, which was $3.50 (still kinda pushing it, there). Food was good. Not the most amazing, definitely didn't justify the price. Everything seemed to taste pretty average with other Indian restaurants. The chai was most disappointing. So mild. Could barely taste it. Just tasted like hot water with cream in it and a hint of chai. They are terrible at the water game. I had just finished a hike and was quite thirsty. Finished the tiny glass they gave me, and didn't come back around for refills for like ten minutes. It was a Saturday, late afternoon, and we were the only ones there. C'mon. I need to kick my review of this restaurant to five stars. I appreciate this place so much! I always get an excellent meal. Lately of course it's been delivery. I have eaten there for both lunch and dinner and have picked up many times. Last Wednesday I ordered through DoorDash. Everything arrived well packed and fresh. I had the Saag paneer along with plain and garlic naan. I also got a pistachio milk shake which I highly recommended. Everything they make is flavorful, well spiced, and made with the freshest ingredients. The chicken tikka masala is incredibly good. This is one of the best Indian food restaurants in Marin. I have tried them all! Nothing compares. Avatars is the same caliber but has a different influences. This is definitely on my bucket list of restaurants to go to the next time it's possible! However I decided to come back and try again Food is really good, it has a very nice homey flavor, today We tried Chicken Tika Masala and Lamb vindalo (Spicy) really nice flavor. We stopped here for the kulfi but ended up getting a whole meal instead. It's a really cute place with a bit of outdoor seating and even indoor it is a nice cozy place. We got a couple vegetarian curries and naans. The food was very, very good and I would say even some of the best North Indian food I've had in the Bay. Highly recommend the paneer curries and garlic naan. The kulfi was not as good as we had hoped - we got the pistachio flavor, and it didn't taste as fresh and was a bit too sweet and artificial. We stumbled upon this place after a grueling hike, and we were so glad we did! It hit the spot. The service was super excellent. The mango lassis were delicately spiced, something a little different than I've had before. We ventured out to try a new Indian food spot in Mill Valley. The yelp reviews were good and we seen about 8-9 door dash orders during our stay. Food is bland and over priced. All of our 4 dishes (chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, Chana masala and paneer butter) tasted the same- tomato soup. No cream or spices. The veggie samosas were good. Cucumber salad was just a cucumber or 2, with lemon squeezed and a spice. Garlic naan was okay. Customer service was good. It would have been too awkward to say all of our food dishes were planned so we will just check this place off the list. Really enjoyed the food here. Chicken tikka masala: favorite dish. Tomato-y, Creamy, Yummy. I thought it was more flavorful than the butter chicken because I felt it wasn't as heavy on the creaminess. Butter chicken: second favorite dish. Hard to explain why it was a little different from the chicken tikka masala but the chicken is different and the sauce felt like it was heavier on the cream. Saag paneer: it was a little bland overall but good texture on the spinach (it wasn't gritty either) and the paneer was good. And if you got the big slice of ginger it was a bit much. I think minor adjustments and this could be my favorite saag dish later. Aloo gobi: tasty and not too dry. My only warning is that it is aloo gobi - so you have to like potatoes and cauliflower otherwise this is not your dish. I love this dish so this one was really good! Mango lassi: would not order again. I like that it was very mango-y but it also was full of spices and I felt like I was crunching on spices. I guess that probably makes it special but I prefer my mango lassi to be smooth and drinkable. Service is not the friendliest or most attentive. The guy from behind the bar was very friendly and helpful. The other server who helped us seemed like he didn't want to be there. Bathrooms downstairs - single sex, single stall. Street parking right outside - credit cards accepted, I think it might be a dollar an hour or something pretty reasonable. Indoor and outdoor seating. It didn't really feel air conditioned but not sure if they just didn't turn it cold on that day. Located in the middle of a cute part of town up the stairs. If you are in this area, this place is a must try. I was meeting up a friend in Mill Valley for lunch on Sunday and she has been wanting to try this place for a long time. We were greeted very warmly on arrival. The first thing that strikes you is the beautiful decor. It does look very fancy and very ethnic. The ambiance is neat and cozy and perfect for romantic dinners as well as a group get togethers. Here is what we ordered: * Vegetarian Platter - An assortment appetizer platter consisting of Samosa, Aloo tikki, Panner pakoras and vegetable pakoras. It came with a side of mint chutney, tamarind chutney and chilli paste. The chilli paste was something very unique and tasted great. We were told that it was an in house recipe, made by the chef with 4 different types of chillies and garlic. Pakoras were the star of the platter. Crisp and super tasty! *Goan Fish curry - (spice level - Hot) Loved the curry. It was cooked to perfection. The fish pieces seemed to melt in the mouth. Though I ordered it spicy, it wasn't too spicy. It did seem to build up. I paired it with Basmati rice. What a great combo! This is great when compared to few Indian places where you order spicy and I just taste chilli powder. *Chicken Vindaloo - My friend ordered it and said it was great. I had a bite of it along with naan and it did taste good. *Garlic Naan - The naans oozed garlic flavor in every bite. I could say it was fresh and soft. *Basmati Rice - The rice paired well with the curries we ordered. Perfectly cooked basmati rice. *Mango lassi - Very different from other places. It had a strong cardamom flavor which I found was interesting. They also serve beer and wine. Overall, we liked all the dishes we ordered. Service was great. The gentleman who served us was very friendly and checked on us constantly and refilled our water glasses without having to flag anyone down. The service was also quite fast. They are open for breakfast too, which is great! Cons: *The quantity was quite less compared to other Indian restaurants considering it was pricey. *The curries don't come with rice/naan. I know it's Mill Valley and real estate prices are high but $20 curries that don't include rice (and are relatively small portions as far as curries go) is pretty sad. Some how Avatar just down the way has burritos with more meat per serving and include rice for less than half the price. Just give the rice with the curries even if it means increasing the price by $0.50 although we all know the overhead on the rice per serving is a dime. The food is good. This is one of downtown Mill Valley's most overlooked restaurants. Delicious Indian cuisine; beautiful food presentation; cozy dining room; friendly service. What more could you ask for? Every time I dine here, I think to myself "why don't I come here more often?" Unlike many Indian restaurants which are pretty sparse with their decor, Prabh's interior design is super inviting and modern. The best seat in the house is by the window so you can people-watch while eating. My go-to dishes are the Chicken Dum Biryani (which is big enough to feed three people); the Chicken Tikka Masala (which is sweeter than most restaurants; so if you like it hot, be sure to request "spicy"); and the garlic basil naan (which is perfect for soaking up all the sauces on your plate). On my most recent visit, I tried a few new things, including the Aloo Tikki Chat (mildly spiced potato patties topped with garbanzo bean curry, yogurt, mint, Tamarind sauce and garnished with red onion & cilantro), and the Chicken Pakora (chicken cooked in clay oven, dipped in garbanzo bean batter & deep-fried). Both were admittedly out of my usual Indian food comfort zone, but both dishes certainly surprised me with their exotic flavors. I would totally order these items again! Expect Marin prices here. Not exactly cheap, but not overly expensive either. Quite frankly, you get plenty of bang for your buck. And trust me, you're going to have plenty of left-overs for the next day or two.
