I was admitted to PrairieCare PHP after being kicked out of my school because they could not keep me safe. PrairieCare has been nothing but hell. They violate human rights. If a kid is having a tantrum out in the common areas, they keep you wherever you and you are strictly prohibited from leaving. This is literally so extremely abusive. My therapist here guilt-trips, mocks, and blames me for everything. There are so many things about this place to be said that I can't say because my head is so fogged with anger. This place has made my self-harm worse, and suicidal thoughts more common and vivid. read more

I was inpatient in prairie care twice and we had to do three hours of school a day, alone in my room. It was quite isolating as we spent a lot of time alone. When I refused to clip my fingernails they put me on constant visual observation, where a staff had to accompany me to the bathroom. They then refused to let me use the bathroom when I needed to. Some nice staff, such as Kennedy and Sa and Riley, and some quite awful nurses. read more

In the month leading up to my daughter's intake, I asked them at least 5 times- every time I spoke to them- about transportation. I have work I can't miss every day for 6 weeks. They assured me, without reservation, that her school district would bus her, every single time. They had my address and personal information this entire time. Then, after taking a full day off work to do an intake they called me to say that actually the district wouldn't take a child from Ramsey County to Hennepin. They then said that I should have somehow known that they were wrong about the policy they were very sure about, and that they would obviously not take the extremely basic step to call the second most populous county in the state, that is next to their county, to check their essential policy. They tried to pretend that that would have been weird for them to do, but I have worked in this industry for 20 years and know that is bare essential basic. They offered to transfer her to another program in our county- in a month, but we would have to attend AND PAY FOR a second intake. Per the program director, that's about $2000 for EACH intake, for a total of $4000. When I argued that they lured me into a bait and switch by misinforming me about transportation and said I wouldn't pay for the first intake the director- a man old enough to know better, became verbally aggressive, talking over me, shouting, etc. I was disheartened by the reviews, but this is the only agency around that takes kids my daughters age with my insurance. I'm heartbroken, but I can't entrust my littler girl who needs help to people with so little integrity or sense of responsibility for the impact of their behavior. None of this is even going into the time they booked me for an intake on a day their office was closed, the lack of ability to reach anyone directly, or that they didn't get me intake paperwork till I called to remind them the day before intake. They know how bad their reviews are, but they don't seem to care enough to actually change their behavior. read more

My child spent 5 weeks in the intensive out patient program. It was supposed to be six weeks, but during the time, our situation became worse. They even said she was on track to be discharged at the end of the 6 weeks. We saw an increase in irrational behavior. Increased concern over self harm, she learned not to care how her actions effected other family members. She was taught it is OK to disengage from a family movie night by spending the evening in her bed and on her phone. It is not like we have family night every other day, we only get to do family night once or twice a month. Our family counselor seemed confused that we couldn't have "family night" with a member of our family missing. Lying over phone usage increased. To top it off, during our pre care evaluation, my wife and I emphasized how we thought she had ADHD and would like her screened for it. At least two weeks went by without a recommendation for psychological evaluation. I don't think it would have happened if my wife had not kept pushing for it. Since then, we have had an evaluation done, she does have ADHD. Medication combined with Christian based family theropy and individual theropy has has made a huge difference for the better. Now I have a bill for $4500. I feel like I should send them a bill for damages incurred. If you want to be sent off to residential treatment facilities and ruin years of your childhood due to doctors having control over your treatment plan, go here. Trauma just from going here and being put in quiet rooms and the staff watching you shower and being outside while you use the bathroom. Are the cameras still in the rooms? I recently completed their Adult PHP program at Edina. I had never been to any level of care higher than regular outpatient therapy. The experience was extremely pleasant and I don't believe there could be a more helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive staff/environment anywhere else. I feel equipped to take the next steps in my life after a time of crisis. Additionally, all of my experiences with the front desk and phone lines has been perfectly good and pleasant. You will get out of Adult PHP what you put into it. Like any other therapy, it is largely patient-driven in the sense that you need to want change, be present, and advocate for yourself. This may sound like a challenge, but I want to reiterate the staff are excellent and are 100% rooting for you. They, in my experience, will do anything they can to help you bridge any barriers. read more

I am a 52 year old woman. My primary doctor wanted me to see a psychiatrist for medication management. It took me 3 months of jumping through hoops to secure an appointment. I had a total of 3 video appointments with a Woodbury psychiatrist that started me on a medication that needs close monitoring. This doctor left the practice after 3 visits. I then got a letter from Prairie Care cutting me loose. They had no one else to see me. So I had to go cold turkey off of a very high dose of Adderall. Our experience at Prairie Care was life changing. My son was struggling with self harm, suicidal ideation, wouldn't leave his room, refused to go to school for months, and was extremely aggressive and volatile towards his family. Initially it wasn't easy getting him to go to PHP, but he finally went for several weeks, including a few nights of in-patient care. In the beginning, he would complain every morning about going, but eventually he admitted that it "wasn't so bad". By the end of program, he didn't want to leave. The staff at Prairie Care made me, as a parent, feel taken care of. They knew how to push my son in a gentle, but firm way. My son's case manager Katie Kuether was on top of everything. And Dr. Case is awesome. She talks fast and tells it like it is, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way at first, mostly because I was so stressed, but she quickly convinced me that she knew what she was doing. She immediately prescribed medicine that changed my son's entire demeanor. She told me that when my son completed program, I wouldn't recognize him and she was right. We found Prairie Care through a friend whose child also went to PC. They highly recommended PC, and I would as well. Thank you Prairie Care! read more

They should not even get one star. I attended an Intensive Outpatient program which was a generalized DBT program that consisted of a process group and then DBT EDUCATION. While DBT education was helpful and the facilitator Sammy was awesome, unfortunately the things that happened in the process group run by Kristi Brown was the issue. There was no structure, 2 patients were allowed to consume the entire group session on an almost a daily basis. The licensed and trained therapist seemed bored and confided to me in our one one session that she was burned out, did not offer any helpful insights instead choosing generic pacifying and in some cases condescending comments as feedback. The final straw was the admittance to our group of an individual that was having intrusive thoughts about committing acts that were inline with traumas many in the group had experienced. While the admittance of the person in our generalized group was questionable the fact that the person was allowed to discuss exactly what those thoughts were on more than one occasion was unethical and traumatic. People are coming to these situations with a trust in the abilities of the team and that trust was grossly abused. read more

I do not recommend the Prairie Care in Edina. The personnel at the front desk are barely competent. For example, on my second visit, they informed me that they didn't have my insurance information (which I gave them on my first visit). On another instance, the person who answered the phone wasn't aware of the fact that one of their psychiatrists does not treat patients over the age of 65. (I had to inform HER of the fact.) More importantly and far worse, the psychiatrist I saw twice yawned several times during both appointments--and on one of the appointments, he called me by the wrong name. Also, it's obvious that he is only interested in being a pill dispenser. When I tried to engage him conversation about my anxiety, he blew me off by responding "Perhaps you'd like to schedule an appointment with one of our therapists." read more

Totally inept accounting department! My daughter attended this for less than a month and they continuously double-billed us and continue to harass us with more bills 5 months later. They denied receiving payment and we had to contact our bank and send them a photo of the check that they had already cashed months ago which paid them in full. Don't go there! When I first stared going there they were fairly new and things were fine. I have been a patent there for 9 years, my Dr. moved to a clinic in southern MN to be closer to where he lives. I have been left hanging since December with no doctor. I was told by my doctor, that someone from the clinic would contact via letter in January to let me know which doctors could take on one of his patients. I have not heard anything. I called and they took a message to send out to other providers to accept me. Well, NO ONE accepted the note. I called again today. I was told that they don't have any opening at this time!!! I have to begin as a new patient again. WTF. So, now my meds are due and I have no doctor to assist me. The worst part is that they don't have enough staff in the pretty new fancy Edina office. I feel hurt and disappointed that they have been so casual about this like it is no big deal. Well, people with mental health issues can't wait! Again WTF. I need someone soon not 6 months from now. I feel deserted by my clinic. They referred me out to other clinics! They are turning people away. OMG One clinic I called has 100 people wait list if you are on Medicare. Apparently, being on Medicare is the kiss of death! in mental health. Not sure what I am going to do. I am extremely frustrated - I may just have to kill myself. read more

I have been with prairie care on and off since I was about 10 and I have always have several issues with them. I'm trying to see them again at the age of 21 and they stood me up on two appointments even tho I called and they told me to just wait. And to make it better they are now charging me 90 dollars. Worst therapeutic program I have ever been through. Horrible customer service, I was told I was the problem, who says that to mentally ill customers number 1 and number 2 it was completely their fault. Jaw dropping horrible experience. Without giving details: Initially I was hopeful and open that good things would result. Boy was I wrong, this outtake program actually made things worse. The therapist was extremely unprofessional, passive aggressive toward the parents and had high school like attitude. I'm wondering if this therapist was even licensed. I'm still debating on filing a formal complaint through the state. My child ended the program with now a list full of excuses for the many long years worth of bad behavior that only grew worse in time. If you're looking for a daycare center for troubled teens, this is what they specialize in. Here your child will receive points for: having a snack, participating in an activity such as drawing or coloring, taking a rest, and cleaning up their mess. Wow. Not surprised at all to see only one star previous reviews for PriarieCare Corp. Well deserved. I'd say they should be renamed PrairieDontCare! Watch out now, for their money grubbing tentacles have even reached California. PrairieDontCare acquired a small mental health non-profit institution with top notch mental health providers in the SF bay area in California. Now they have started to re-negotiate rates with all the insurance providers. We have one of the best PPO insurances (Anthem Blue Cross) and yet these folks cannot find a decent middle ground. It has been weeks my child has not been able to see their doctor and all I hear is that "we are negotiating". Their VP of operations (I'll leave his name out for now) even had the audacity to email patients to "call your insurance company and advocate for yourself". Really? Why don't you try calling them? Do you know how many times we've called the insurance company? Their response is that the provider initiated this change and you should call them. Oh and PrairieDontCare offered us a financial counselor to help with the payments. Could you be any less helpful? Stop paying for these people to "help us with financial assistance" and to send us these bogus tone-deaf emails. Instead get your act together. Kids are suffering because of your random actions. read more

I also had a recent jaw-dropping horrible experience with this facility. We scheduled an appointment, flew down from 10 hours away for the appointment. When we arrived, we were told we missed the appointment (we didn't) and that the person who did the assessments was gone for the day. I was then given number after number after number of people who were supposed to help, but the buck just kept getting passed around. When the person who finally came back to do our assessment from another facility, she was basically a teenager who clearly had very little experience in anything. Given our circumstances, which is that we live in another state with little access to mental health facilities, she recommended an "intensive out patient" setting where my son would come to the facilities for 2-3 hours a day after school for 6-8 weeks. Did I mention the part where we live ten hours a way? Yeah. Thanks for nothing. We didn't even get the courtesy of a referral to an ACTUAL living psychiatrist or psychologist. It was basically the mental health equivalent of a time share sale. What a waste. It's a bait and switch. read more

As a parent who read the awful reviews and was then sent into a state of panic, I feel I need to assuage some fears for those who may be in that very position right now. My child was already being checked in at PrairieCare's Brooklyn Park location (emergency situation) when I looked the company up, and I hate to admit, those reviews nearly made me call for a transfer before even meeting a doctor. I encourage every parent reading this to consider our experience among the rest before you panic. From the very beginning of this traumatizing journey, we were allowed access to our child via phone or in-person (which was every day and was encouraged), we were kept abreast of all assessments and meetings, we were consulted on every aspect of care and schedule, and were made to feel a part of the care team, not just an accessory. I do wish there were more family meetings, but I never once felt I couldn't ask questions outside of that time and always felt supported. Medication management seems to be another issue mentioned in reviews, but we were able to speak directly to the psychiatrist and evaluate the pros and cons as well as the anticipated duration and dose without any pushback or insistence on unneeded meds. They even make it a practice not to prescribe potentially addictive substances should the child have family with abuse problems - I can't say that about my doctor! I know there are some medications that people, especially children, don't do well with, but when I brought up a potential side-effect issue the doctor promptly discussed other options. The social workers, therapists, and techs are simply fabulous. Every little thing that could be done was addressed. During the outpatient portion I became a bit upset because my child was being picked on by another kid, but instead of calling to discuss it, my momma bear instincts kicked in and I got mad. Not exactly a wise or mature move, but my baby was away from me and being taunted at the most vulnerable time in their life. Fortunately, the staff completely understood my overprotective reaction and assured me that all that needed to be done was notification and things would be handled - which they were. Immediately. I truly cannot say enough about the depth of knowledge possessed by the therapists and social workers. I gained more information about my child's condition in 4 meetings here than I did in 50+ meetings at two other clinics! We left the program with a depth of understanding we didn't expect, a sense of capability and preparation we had never felt, and knowing we are still supported even after discharge. They also provide references for treatment after discharge, so I hope they are soon able to implement individual therapy. Finding the type of therapist we need now who is as qualified as the one we had at PrairieCare has proven very difficult. I could go on, but will summarize my final points. Billing was wonderful - they managed to negotiate with our insurance to reduce bill by HALF. I didn't even ask for it. Facilities are beyond expectation and incredibly clean. The security guard my first time to visitation realized how upset I was and took the time to repeat instructions and rules as needed, which was so unexpectedly kind. The only slightly negative experience I had there was one security guard at the inpatient clinic who just seemed like he did not want to be there at all. Rolled his eyes at trivial things and was just generally unpleasant. Certainly not enough for me to remove any stars though! As a side-note, and maybe an explanation as to why my experience was so different from the other people, is that my child does not have long-term or congenital behavioral issues and no developmental delay. I believe some of these parents are probably at the end of their ropes and believe that these places will magically fix their baby. So when Thad doesn't happen, because it really can't happen, they express their frustration via angry reviews. Some of the time, anyway. My advice to parents considering this place for your kiddo: give it a shot, ask questions, advocate for your kid if needed, ask for more meetings, ask for added assistance or change of schedule, etc. if I had to do this all over again I would definitely keep my baby at PrairieCare. *No, I am not, nor have I ever been an employee or in any other way associated with the practice. read more

I honestly have never received worse mental health treatment. All I need is one medication prescribed for one condition that's worked well for me for years. My previous psychiatrist retired, so I found a doctor here who was available. I have never been treated with less respect. She rolls her eyes, tries to convince me to change medication even though it's working completely fine, and treats me like I'm a child. I have very grave concerns about Prairie Care. In theory it's a valuable very needed service. We had high hopes that our child would get help with mental health issues. At first we were seeing some positive things, but after a few weeks was kicked out of the program abruptly, with the NP making a phone call saying don't come back.
