I could have an appointment for one of my cats, and the Dr. will always check in with me on my sister's new puppy, or my nephews German Shepherd! The same goes for when my family visits, she will always ask about my cats. I am a Sphynx breeder, and sadly these cats are prone to many serious health conditions and complications. As a breeder, finding not only hands on, but pro-active care is very important. I have found this here at Choptank. I live over an hour away and will make that trip across the Bay Bridge for their care. I have also recommended her to other Sphynx's owners. They are also very good at handling skittish pets. My nephew has a German Shepherd that had an "alternate ID" and viewed vets as the ultimate enemy. It made it hard to get him care, as he is a huge German Shepherd. The Dr came in clutch with a "fear not" attitude and met my nephew in the parking lot, overlooked our dogs scare tactics and the two walked into the front door together. If I have ever had an emergency, and their schedule permits, I have been able to be seen, or diverted to proper care elsewhere. The staff is very friendly and professional and I recommend them to anyone not only on the Eastern Shore, but also within the DC Metro area.

Despite everything he seemed to be on the decline. I decided to look around for an in-home euthanasia service so that his passing could be as comfortable as possible and he could be with his family in case the worst was to become reality. When I spoke to Dr. Darnell on the phone I could immediately sense a great deal of compassion and empathy. She explained everything and answered all my questions. At this point we were hoping for a turn around and I could tell that really was too. Just talking to her on the phone that day gave me a sense of comfort. Cracker started to turn around and we began to see how old energetic self; he was wagging his tail and giving us kisses. We were so hopeful and optimistic, but a week later his heath rapidly declined and he died by my side with me rubbing his sweet head. :( Even though I didn't end up using her services, I will always remember the way my phone call with her made me feel. She's definitely one of the good ones.

Then, off to get weighed and back to the room. It's very clean too. The vet, Dr. Steinberg was amazing! Khloe will soon celebrate her 15th birthday and is set in her ways. She's really not "into" hanging out with a veterinarian, but that's life. She made a lot of noise to let me (and Dr. Nickens) know that this exam was not on her schedule. But Dr. Nickens was very patient with Khloe, calmed her down (even long enough to take a blood sample). Dr. Nickens was great, and her fees are extremely reasonable. I highly recommend her.
