Nickens was so much more personal than any other veterinary office could provide, but for a similar price point!

From the moment I walked into Heavenly Paws Cremations, Donnia made an emotional time so much more bearable. She welcomed me with warmth and compassion, sitting me down to explain all my options with patience and care. They have a beautiful selection of urns displayed in a separate room, allowing me to choose something special. The entire process was handled with professionalism, promptness, and clear communication, which I truly appreciated during such a tough moment. I was even able to get a footprint, a handprint, and some feathers, which meant so much to me and my daughter as a way to remember our sweet bird. When I received the remains, they were placed in a lovely velvet bag, showing the attention to detail and respect they have for both pets and their owners. I cannot recommend Heavenly Paws Cremations enough for anyone going through the loss of a pet. They made the process seamless and dignified, and their quality products and compassionate service made all the difference. Thank you, Donnia, for your kindness--you truly helped make a heartbreaking experience a little easier.

I chose a small necklace with a vial, heart and wing attached as an urn keepsake. When I picked him up 2 days later I found a claw print in the bag with him! I highly recommend Heavenly Paws Cremation. I felt confident leaving Poncho with them. Laura and the rest of the staff were wonderful to us!! I am so happy he is home, we will be sprinkling the rest of his ashes at my grandparents graveside who were his first owners.

The staff was very friendly and helpful - particulary the techs and the vet. Despite the obviously negative situation, the experience was as good as it could be despite a lengthy wait (and a pricy tag). Our cat had a terminal illness with tumors in his over extended twice the size belly. Only a cat scan showed it. But they didn't say that to us and it wasn't performed there. We were sent home with a 10 day supply of antibiotics. Our cat suffered for 2 more weeks before we took him to a different vet. It took her less than 10 minutes to find the tumors and because the cat was having a difficult time breathing and couldn't be cured: together we made the humane decision to put him down. We spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this vet and they could not figure out what was wrong with him. I'll tell you something though: they knew enough to ask us to pay for every other test imaginable; just not the one that would have helped our cat from suffering. Horrible, absolutely horrible experience here. Don't take your pet here. You will be robbed to the tune of a FEW THOUSAND dollars and your pet will not get the humane care it needs. This place needs to be put out of business.

I was planning on taking her…read moreto Falls Road Animal Hospital where she was being treated, to be sent off for cremation. However, my friend suggested I take my fur baby to this place instead, because she was going there to pick up one of her pets' cremated remains. Since she wasn't sure on how to get to Falls Road Animal Hospital, I decided to ride with her to this place. After we arrived I was told that the total for my 9 lb dog would be a total of $283.00 (?!) which came with a very small wooden cheap urn - no memorial plaque included. The person that was assisting me was named David. After he took my fur baby's body from her carrier, and placed her on a table in a back room, I went to say my goodbyes to my precious fur baby. When I saw her on the table I noticed that there was some body fluid that was aligned with her nose inches away from her body. Which meant that he didn't take care with taking her out of her carrier to put her onto this table. When I left from the room, after saying my goodbyes and I love yous' to my fur baby, I noticed he had placed her carrier by the front door. I'm not sure if this is protocol or he just wanted me to hurry and leave after I paid $283.00 ??? I asked that some of her ashes be put into a different bag for her original human, before I adopted her. He told me that she would be ready for pick up in a few days, which should have included one of her favorite little teddy bears that was to be cremated with her. The same friend brought me back to this place to pick up my precious fur baby's ashes. The second guy that answered the door immediately looked at me, looked at my friend, whom happened to be white; and said , "She's first." He assumed that we weren't together; because I came into the door first. I don't know if it was racial bias; but it sure felt that way. After this disturbing event; all three of us went into a back office. He had my fur baby's ashes on the desk. When he handed her urn to me it there was no weight to it ?! Then he showed me her ashes that were inside a plastic bag; (if these were even my dog's ashes ???). I noticed that it was a very little amount for a 9 lb dog, which was very suspicious. Because of this odd amount, I researched the amount of my 9 lb. fur baby's ashes that I should've received. Her ashes should've equated to three to five pounds of cremated ashes ! And when I realized that it was way too little for my fur baby's ashes for her original human, in her bag. I asked if he could put a little bit more into her bag. When he did this he did not take proper care he opened up my bag of my precious baby's ashes and carelessly began to pour some into the other bag ! While he was doing this careless act, he spilled some of my baby's ashes onto the desk- ( again...if this was even my fur baby's ashes) and just non-chalantly swept my fur baby's ashes on to the floor !! In that moment, I regretted taking my friend's advice and to take my baby to this place ! Considering the way me and my precious fur was treated I really regret taking her to this place ! I regret not taking my precious fur baby to Falls Road Animal Hospital to be sent off for cremation. Because it was more affordable and she and I would have been treated more respectfully. And Falls Road gives you options of what type of urn you want for your fur baby; not some cheap box ! I must say, I do believe that my race played a part in the way me and my precious fur baby was treated ! I would never suggest anyone, especially POC, use this place if you truly love your fur baby. And if you want to be treated humanely during your grief of the loss of your precious fur baby !!

VEG-ER is the best…read more Eariler this week one evening, we had to take our Siamese boy, Pablo, to VEG-ER not long before midnight. You know you've heard that if your indoor-outdoor cat who always comes home one day doesn't come home one day, something has happened. Well, it's true. Usually, Pablo (a.k.a. Bunky) comes back within minutes after being let out, but this day was different. We looked for him and looked for him, but came up empty-handed. Pablo has an AirTag and, curiously, it showed he was on our property. Finally, he appeared around 10:00pm at the back door. We were relieved, but noticed he had wounds on his hind legs. Because of our excellent experience we had last year with VEG-ER, we brought Pablo here. Pablo received top-shelf compassionate treatment from the VEG-ER staff, each of whom has a heart of gold. I really admire, respect and appreciate people that devote their lives to the care of pets. They're a blessing. We were told Pablo did not experience an animal attack, but maybe got stuck on a fence, and slipped. Pablo is home recovering now, getting stronger by the day. We basically live in the woods, and realize fully now that it is just too dangerous here to let him outside unsupervised anymore..

We've been to many pet ERs/urgent cares in the 8 years we've lived in NoVa and this the only hospital where we spoke to a doctor within a few minutes of walking in the door. They were thorough, took time to explain our treatment/testing options and answer questions, and made us feel like Norman's care mattered even when more severe emergency cases came in. At VEG, you can see everything, stay with your pet, watch their treatment, and staff are readily available to talk to or answer questions. That alone eased so much anxiety. Kenzie, one of the nurses that was assigned to Norman, was so kind. It was clear that everyone in the room cared about making these animals feel comfortable. More than one nurse came over to introduce themselves when we were preparing to leave Norman overnight. They offered us a room where we could stay with him if we wanted, and even asked what he liked to watch on TV to create a comfortable environment for him after we let them know he suffers from separation anxiety. The discharge and follow-up notes were also incredibly detailed, which made following up with our primary vet so much easier. No one ever wants to bring their animal to an ER, but this is now the only place we will go when we need urgent medical care. A HUGE thank you to everyone at VEG Alexandria for taking such good care of our dog!
