This review is totally overdue, like from 12/2023 - 01/2024, overdue: I found Precision Auto Repair through my extended warranty company Endurance for my 2005 Honda Accord Coupe; as a note, they are the only authorized mechanic on Hawai'i Island that can do any warranty repairs that is covered by Endurance. To give some context, when it comes to trusting automotive repair shops, I'm the worst! I always think they are trying to rip you off and the whole distrust thing probably stems from me not being mechanically inclined! I know I shouldn't feel like this but I do! Sorry to have dumped my personal shortcomings on all of you but there you have it, LOL ! Anyway, upon calling and setting an appointment to get my AC checked to see what was wrong, the person I spoke to, Laurie, was extremely pleasant and professional and scheduled me to bring in my car right away! When I brought my Honda in I explained to Laurie that I was going to be out of town for over a month, gave her a list of a few other things I wanted an assessment and an estimate on. She said it could take a couple weeks or more for the assessments and a reply from Endurance as to what they will cover. A couple of weeks later Laurie contacted me with all of the particulars and they began the work on repairing the AC and other items on their list of "must get repaired, including my State of Hawai'i Safety Check requirement since it just expired (at no additional charge)!" I mean WOW , talk about excellent customer service and professionalism! Laurie and Ray (owner) has completely turned my negative attitude around towards automotive repair shops! Fast forward to today (10/14/2024) and I'm back for an oil change, filter changes, tire rotations and an overall assessment! Today, I'm dealing with Ray and he is extremely professional, friendly and moves with purpose and determination in getting customers in and out as quickly as possible! I spent years going to a repair shop in Waimea (rhymes with flex grody) and every time I went I would have a huge bill, and 50% of the time the issue would persist. Precision Auto is a totally different experience. I went to Raymond for two years. I brought multiple cars to his shop. the first 6 months he fixed the cars quickly and economically. then he found out I was a single mom, and a homeowner, I had a bit of money and no man with mechanic know how and I was a target. One car he quoted me $15k to fix. took it for a second and third opinion. yes it needed help but $2500 and the car is still running. i didn't want to believe it so I brought one more car to him. he showed me a print out of codes the car pulled and said $2k now and transmission likely to blow. I had my own code reading device and when I plugged it in, it pulled no codes. i again took the car to two other mechanics. they pulled no codes. good mechanic, nice people, but they will scam ya in a heartbeat. earn your trust and then bend you over. read more

I cannot give a review on the mechanical work this shop provides but I can give my feedback on the customer service I was given via the frontdesk person. I spend a good amount of money upkeeping our vehicles. Some of the work most mechanically inclined folks can do it themselves. Like me, I am a DIY person. Other work require more speciāized tools and skills and this is when I seek professional service. I am not one to always go where others recommend because we all know you might not get equal treatment. Seeking shops with 4 or 5 stars is also decieving. Trying to get quality service or repair comes at a premium and shopping around to still get quality without breaking the bank is important. Upon one shops inspection it was recommended a part will soon need replacement. I wanted a second opinion and called several shops on the part price and costs to replace. Precisio Auto was one of them. Lori or Laurie was pleasant but her tone seemed annoyed. Apparently qoutes is taboo or too much work to research. Despite exchanging info and a reply of calling me back for a qoute, it never arrived. I waited a few days to give her the benefit-of-the-doubt. 1 week went by, then a second week went by. I understand that businesses get overwhelmed and backlogged. I understand honest mistakes. But this was not the first time it happened to me. This was twice. The first time I called back and she was on the defense. Arguementive that she called me back when in fact she didn't. Then of course she gave me a sketchy qoute, claiming that parts and labor charges could change over time. While that is true, it was conveyed to me annoyingly. I am not upset because no money was spent or loss. I just took my money elsewhere. My only gripe is the quality of customer service and promptness. Even if they were more in cost to repair I would have chosen them based on their star ratings. Instead, from just over the phone I was made to feel unvalued and as if they did'nt need my money. That's ok because we all have choices of where to spend our money. Addition to the business owner response : Thank you for responding promptly. That is exactly my point in regards to customer service. Not only was I looking for a qoute for a part and the labor involved but not once for both calls was I even offered for your shop to schedule a look-over to see and diagnose or if indeed it's what my vehicle needed. Had that been suggested and even if it cost more to replace or repair I wouldve taken my vehicle to your shop. Instead what I got out of both calls was that I was wasteing your time. They have been very helpful in fixing my handicap vans and minivans and knowledgeable and getting things fixed in a timely matter.

I took my Jeep into Raymond for an oil leak. I was given a diagnosis of the problem and told that the repairs needed would fix the oil leak. I authorized the repairs that Raymond said I needed. The repairs did nothing to fix the oil leak, and soon after bringing it home it was worse than before. I called Raymond to ask for a refund. He refused. I informed him that the dealer had told me it was not an oil leak and that the transmission needed to be removed and repaired. Raymond still refused to refund my money. I fought the charge with my credit card company. Raymond still refused to refund my money and I am now out $568 for a repair that did not fix the problem -- all because Raymond stated that I "authorized the repairs." This is not ethical. read more

My 2007 Toyota Tacoma had started to leak from the steering; a very slow leak, and I took it here. I'd already figured out the source and considered doing it myself with a little help from youtube, but decided to bring it here. I was very glad I did. Took to another Mechanic, fixed by Replacing the Thrmostate, Charged me 60$, Ray wanted 843$ to replace my Plugs, Plug wires, coil, Another Mechanic did it for 225$, Ray is Robbing the Public, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. read more

Went to get a slow leak fixed in my tire plus an oil change, etc. They told me the tire was not fixable but made me wait 2-1/2 hours and charged me to rotate tires that needed be changed out the next day anyway. Absolutely useless and wasted my time. I'll never go back. read more

The owner Raymond calls you to go over the problems and lets you decide the best approach for your budget. I have trusted Raymond at Precision Auto for both of my vehicles for all oil changes, scheduled maintenance and repairs for over three years. Trust is important to me. I've had our dealer's in-house shop and a major franchise outright lie about the condition of my vehicles and the need for service. I suspect that the techs and the salespeople at these places are under pressure to sell, even if it means doing unnecessary repairs. Precision Auto is different. When something needs to be done, Raymond is up front and tells me. I never feel, however, that Raymond is inventing issues or recommending repairs that are unnecessary at that point. I feel that he is always looking out for my vehicles' safety, maintenance, and my wallet. That's what an awesome mechanic and small business owner does. Just spent Well over 2 hour waiting outside the shop for a safety inspection that we had already paid for. They allowed someone to park in the ONE designated parking stall for safety checks. Knowing we were coming back to finalize appointment. We waited over 2 hour to hear that we had to wait some more for someone to move the car in the designated spot. I called Raymond after breaking down in Kona. He said he was full for the day, and then proceeded to give me free advice over the phone for possible issues and simple remedies. He said he'd call if something opened up on the schedule. I tried what he recommended to no avail so I took it to his shop. I've never had a mechanic willing to help over the phone so I decided to take the vehicle to him even if I had to wait until tomorrow. I would give more stars if they were available. Raymond & his team did excellent work getting our 2005 Prius back on the road after a main part of the hybrid system failed. The manufacturer's price for the replacement unit was exorbitant (more than the value of the car!), but when I found a mainland company that rebuilds them, Raymond took time to talk with their tech and satisfied his concerns about quality, reliability, etc. He also worked wonders with his busy schedule to fit our repair in and then charged us a very reasonable price.
