Subject: Feedback on Recent Root Canal Experience at South Jersey Endodontics…read more Dear South Jersey Endodontics Team, I recently experienced a severe toothache due to an infection in tooth #30 and visited my DMO-preferred dentist, Dr. Samir Patel, for advice. Although the tooth had no prior symptoms of infection, he recommended that I see an endodontist at South Jersey Endodontics. Having had a previous root canal procedure done by Dr. Steven Ryu with an excellent, pain-free experience, I requested to see him again. However, I was informed that he was unavailable, and instead, I was scheduled with Dr. Divya Trikannad, whom I had not worked with before. Upon my visit, an X-ray was taken, followed by a recommendation for a 360° CT scan, which I was told would provide better clarity for the procedure. I was informed that this scan was not covered by insurance and would cost $300 out-of-pocket. Although I agreed to proceed, I had never been required to undergo this scan in my past root canal treatments. Unfortunately, despite this additional imaging, my experience during and after the procedure was extremely painful, to the point where I had to take three days off from work to recover. I genuinely question the necessity of the 360° CT scan, as it did not seem to contribute to a smoother or less painful procedure. In my opinion, this additional step felt more like an unnecessary cost rather than a true benefit to patient care. Ultimately, I ended up paying more than what my insurance covered, and the experience did not meet my expectations. I sincerely urge your team to avoid imposing unwarranted procedures on patients, especially when experienced professionals in your practice have successfully handled similar cases without them in the past. Finally, I understand that reviews reflect individual experiences, and expectations can vary from person to person. It's often challenging to judge a service or practitioner based on a single review, as a collective opinion is usually more informative. My intention here is not to defame the practitioner or the group that provided my treatment, but rather to share my personal experience, which was significantly different from my previous root canal procedures--both with this group and elsewhere. Although the fillings were fine, I had a very poor care experience and had deeply bitten my upper lip due to prolonged numbness after this rather routine procedure. I called her back to let her know what had occurred since it had been nearly two hours latter. Dr. Osmani exhibited poor bedside manners, didn't introduce herself, check in with me during my procedure nor did she provide follow up care instructions. She was in the next patients months seconds after finishing my extraction and unavailable to answer basic questions. I felt like a Tuskegee experiment candidate. I was angry at myself for allowing her to treat me like an object. I wondered if I were someone else would she have behaved differently or is she overwhelmed and unhappy with her position? I don't know and it's not something I as a paying patient should have to worry about. Nevertheless, I won't be going back there. I feel uncomfortable with her being the primary dentist. I spoke to Natasha on the phone and then met her today. She's very sweet. The young woman who did my x-rays was great too--nice and friendly and was fast so I didn't have to sit long with the plastic things in my mouth. This all made such a difference in my dental experience, which I always dread. The office is cheerful and decorated for the holidays. The parking was right next to the office in a private lot. The office itself is conveniently located right off Route 130 so it's easy to get to. I highly recommend Dr. Maia if you're looking for a dentist. I was so pleasantly surprised!
