We didn't have a big job for Dan and crew, just something I'm no longer physically capable of doing myself (as a septuagenarian). Easily covered by the job 'minimum', and the guys were in and out in about 40 minutes, including cleanup. We're satisfied...job was done as stated and expected, and the damaged limb(s) which threatened the house were either removed or had weight pared from them. Will use again if the need arises, and I don't have any reservations regarding recommending Precision to friends. read more

Dan and his crew were AWESOME! Came out Monday do give an estimate and were back on Tuesday to take care of a fallen tree (on our house) and other dead trees. To be fair, what they do, they do well. But for me they can't be trusted and here's why. I had three people come out to give me estimates on clearing about 2.5 to 3 acres of mostly alder, with some cedar and maples around my house. I had a tall and very specific order and wanted as accurate a bid as possible. I needed some big maples and cedars crowding my house and driveway cut back to get some sunlight in as well as safety issues in wind storms. I wanted ALL stumps pulled up and was MOST specific about that. I specified no grinding or poisoning of stumps. Absolutely remove them with the logs stacked to the side. I wanted the branches all chipped for hog fuel. I told of my plans to make the whole area into lawn and landscaping and when he was through, I wanted it level and all the underbrush cleared and ready for the lawn to be installed. This was the job I needed done, and could he do it. I knew going into it, the trees close to the house would be pricey because of the extra care needed to take them down. Dan quoted a $70,000 price (wow!) but said there would be no surprise costs with his company. "If there are added costs as we get into it, I eat the cost----your price doesn't change," he said. He said others will under bid him but keep raising the costs along the way. On top of that, he knew of somebody who would haul away the cedar and alder logs for me. What did I know, so I hired him. He showed up with a crew of about 6 or 8 men and they worked fast, but I noticed they weren't pulling up the stumps. Then they showed up one day with a stump grinder. I reminded him that I wanted the stumps pulled up. He said that wasn't figured into the price. In addition, the stump grinding would normally have been an extra $5,000, which he acknowledged he "knows he told me he would eat any additional costs, but.......there ARE a lot of stumps, soooo.......". I was frustrated and irritated because I had been so specific and adamant about the stumps and he had come out twice to review the scope of work. Then they "finished"the job while I was gone and when I came back it was a disaster. Logs were everywhere, the ground left like a clear cut and had not been graded, and there were tons of roots sticking up out of the ground everywhere. He had charged me $20,000 for the area around the house only, and another $20,000 for less than an acre away from the house. I had asked for anything with a leaf to come down. ALL of it. Any evergreen, except what I specified, would be left standing. For $40,000 there were still alders and maple trees all around the parameters. My neighbors were shocked at the price and told me of the price charged them when they cleared land AND that it was all graded and cleaned up. I've since had 3 different companies give me quotes and all three are disgusted at the work ethics and pricing of Precision. I did call Dan afterwards and tell him how upset I was with the job, his extra charges, that he went back on his word, and the complete ugly mess. The only thing he did was cut trees and grind some limbs, otherwise nothing else was done. He gave me back $5,000 and basically bulldozed the area, but it didn't get rid of the roots. He stacked the logs in several different piles in order to bulldoze, but nobody ever came by to get them-----no surprise. Just this week, one guy came out, found somebody to actually buy my logs. He will clear all the land for me, complete with cleaning up the debris and PULLING up the stumps. He'll take all the logs to a mill and split the sale price 60/40 (I receive 60) which will more than pay for the job. All three companies said it sounds like Precision had so much of my money, cleaning up and completing the job just was more of a pain than it was worth. "That's usually the case. Take the money and run." All three shake their heads and say $70,000 is way overpriced-----like for 10 acres of clearing, grading and burning the debris, and that these unethical companies ("and there are a lot of them out there") give the honest ones a bad name. But Dan has a charming smile and a pleasant way and it's easy to be lured. On top of it, he knew I was a new widow and inexperienced in fending for myself. Nice guy. Perhaps the small job of a few trees would be okay for some, but even then; I just had somebody take down 8 maple trees near the house that Dan didn't, and it cost me $4,000----not $20,000. Because he didn't do the job he agreed to, it has cost me extra money in trying to build a shop. All those stumps and roots had to first be removed. Every contractor has walked away saying, "Sloppy work ethic." read more

They did an okay job. A number of our trees turned out lopsided and the pruning cuts did not seem to be precision cuts (to avoid suckers) but it was okay. Probably would not use again. read more
