I did a ton of homework with permits, a large (but still responsible) number of bids, references, and double checked things with my insurance company given the potential for serious harm and damage should things go wrong. We had a tree that we tried hard to save over the years, but was just leaning more and more, and started to show signs of "failure" after the bomb cyclone incident.
