We agreed to pruning after a branch had previously fallen on my neighbor's house, so we wanted the work done responsibly and according to an arborist's recommendations. The tree is also classified as a Tier 2 tree under Seattle code (previously called an "exceptional tree"), which made it even more important that the pruning be done carefully and conservatively. Before any work was done, I hired an arborist to evaluate the tree and provide a report, which was referenced in the contract. Unfortunately, it became obvious afterward that they either never read the report or completely ignored its recommendations. The tree was massively overtrimmed and heavily underskirted to the point that it now looks mutilated. I am genuinely depressed every time I look at it. What was once a beautiful mature tree now looks stripped and unnatural. The company never communicated with us directly before doing the work and instead coordinated only with my neighbor while I was out of town. At no point did they review the plan with us, discuss the arborist recommendations, or confirm the scope of pruning before cutting. To their credit, they did provide a partial refund afterward, but it does not make up for the irreversible damage done to the tree or the distress this has caused. We hired professionals because we wanted careful, informed tree care -- not permanent damage. Extremely disappointed.

In all fairness, they must have been slammed with folks taking up the offer, nevertheless I had to leave several voice messages (one time the box was full) before I got a return call. After three weeks, someone came out to look at the six trees marked with a white ribbon. The cost was $500 less the $250 credit=my balance of $250. Three weeks later after returning home we found that one of the trees was untouched and another looked as though only one branch was clipped. It's been over a week since my voicemail to them and I have had no return call. I'll finish the job myself and surely will not participate in another such offer, especially with Emerald City Tree Service.

I never removed a tree before, and the city permit application needs some docs like site plan which I am not familiar. They helped me a lot during the whole process, made files I needed for the permit and finally got the permit approved (thanks god the city didn't ask for the arborist report). They showed up on the scheduled day and got the work done faster than I expected. In addition, their price is very reasonable. Some of the scope of the work they had to be extremely careful due to my net below the trees and they did a phenomenal job. They were safe, efficient and made sure they left no trace behind. We have an above ground pool for the kiddo and the tree also made cleaning a 2-3x chore. The shade was lovely, but the risk of it falling over in a bad windstorm and the upkeep was too much. We received quotes from multiple companies on Yelp and everyone quoted us 3-6x the amount we paid. They had a wood chipper truck I believe it was in front of the house and even used a blower to get rid of any debris. It barely took them any time at all. We had the stump left to make a memorial bench because we got the tree from a loved one that passed. The team did a phenomenal job. Would recommend to anyone and will use them again for other services. Thank you!
