I made an appointment with JayB (Jay Brown) and it was an awful cut. He cut the front and not the back. I asked him to fix it and said no. He tried to tell me it was my fault for booking a clipper cut when he needed to use scissors. It was so bad, I came home and gave myself a buzz cut. We were traveling down to the San Diego area for a family trip and needed to get a haircut for our four-year-old son with special needs. Our barber, Jay B, went above and beyond to make sure our son felt safe, comfortable, and cared for. He took his time, reassured our son every step of the way, and made what can be a very difficult experience for us into a truly enjoyable one. What stood out even more was the overall atmosphere -- not just Jay B, but every barber in the shop showed kindness and support. They even offered us drinks and catered to our son's needs by putting on his favorite show on the TV, knowing how much that would help him feel at ease. We were the last ones in the shop, but not once did we feel rushed -- the focus was 100% on making sure our son had the best experience and the best haircut possible. Booked an appointment for my first ever visit on a Sunday with Jay B at 7:00pm sometime in the past. Upon entering around 6:55pm, I took a seat near the front and waited patiently for my appointment time. Jay B had two children he was servicing back to back, and had the second child hop in the chair after finishing the first one's haircut at about 7:00pm on the dot. I quickly stood up to inform him that I had an appointment with him. After checking his appointments on his phone, he informed the second child to leave the chair because I had an appointment for that time frame. His overall mood began to turn in a negative direction, which I can wholeheartedly understand. It's the end of the week, an hour before closing, and everyone wants to go home. I showed Jay B a few reference photos of the haircut I was looking for, which was a low taper with the top long enough to style the fringe, and the sides connected/blended to the length on top. He replied with, "low taper, got it" and provided only that portion of the haircut I was looking for. Much of the bulk I was looking to remove was still left on the sides of my head (long enough to hold its styled direction when brushed), though in his defense, I could have been much more specific and spoke up during the cutting process. The haircut was exactly 30 minutes long as advertised, and I left with what I felt like was a half completed haircut. Given the circumstances I walked into and the timing of my appointment, I felt as I was very much an inconvenience and wanted to leave the shop as quickly as possible. If I return, I will definitely be booking my appointment earlier on in the day. read more

Well, I waited a full month or so to give this review. They were open, and under 15 minute wait, so that was helpful. The star rating fully is based on the quality of cut in relation to the price. The cost was $45, so it needs to be a better cut than Great clips. Other other place I frequent is $58 for a cut, and is stellar, but I don't necessarily expect it to be at that level. The fade was pretty decent. I wasn't handed a mirror, so it wasn't until I got home that I noticed the back. There was a spot on my neckline that was visibly short her than the other side. Also, the side went up too high, and the top was longer, creating a rooster look. Nothing that needed fixing, but it was not great. I asked for the fade blended to finger length on top. The barber scissor cut my hair. Dry. Now, in my life, I've had probably 400-500 haircuts. I have never had a dry scissor cut. They usually spray water, or at fancy places, wash. Dry, for my hair, did not work. It was so completely uneven. And I ended up with horns in the front, which it took a lot of gel to conceal. As it grew out, I ended up with bangs. Now, i have had some great hair cuts in my life, and haircuts that required another hair cut to fix. For me, it's not about price, but convenience. Sometimes I end up at Great Clips out of convenience. This haircut was on par with a GC haircut. Venmo $45 plus $5 tip to not completely be an a-hole, but the barber was visibly displeased. I hid my displeasure. Geez step it up for fifty bucks. read more
