No B/S barbershop for males, especially with shorter hair. All the pictures on the wall have examples of the typical styles there as do the reviews on here. This is pretty normal for barbershops so some of the negative reviews need to learn the difference between a barbershop and a salon and which you go to what for. With that outta the way Nash and Patrick are the best in San Diego that I've been to and even when I compare them to all the barbers I've seen in other places that I have lived they come out near the top. I went to Mr. Barbershop for the first time a few days ago and like any other barbershop, going for the first time is always nerve wracking because you don't know what to expect. The shop is very clean and well maintained. I had Patrick as my barber and I explained the type of haircut that I wanted and he got started. As he was cutting he was showing me how my hair looked to make sure it was how I wanted and he was very patient and meticulous with his work. The haircut ended up much better than I even had in mind and I can confidently say that I will definitely be going back! I highly recommend Patrick, he is an excellent barber and a very friendly guy! Long hair, beware. Mine is curly, and that made the outcome even worse. I came in looking to have my hair cut shorter, I asked for it to fall at my shoulders because it used to go down to my lower back. My barber seemed to know what he was doing at first, but when he went to cut my hair his process was: 1. Wet the entirety of my head 2. Comb all of my hair as far back as possible 3. Make a single, straight cut along my shoulder line. That was it. I haven't had a haircut in over 15 years, but even I know that you're meant to layer hair so it's even all the way around. The barber tried to make it look better by slicking it back, but once my hair dried and curled up it was obvious he ruined it. It looked like a curly bowl cut, but the back was significantly shorter than the rest (because he didn't layer, just a single cut!) Horrible experience. Great job on the beard. The fade in and lines are super crisp. read more

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. When we first started coming to Mr. Barbershop for my teenage boys we got some really good cuts so we kept coming back, even when lines would be long or they went cash only. But we have gotten to the point over the last year where we now have more bad cuts than good and we are now officially done. My 16 year-old has long curly hair and loves his curls, loves the length and is pretty devastates after providing a photo from a few months ago of the length he wanted. Despite the photo, Patrick got rid of like 3/4 of the hair in the back, destroying the length and shape. You might say it's just hair, but for my son his curls and his length are part of his identity and this is a big blow. We are done and are open to recommendations for new barbershops. read more

Fun fact: 8/18/20- they are doing haircuts in the back outdoors! ---- I booked a haircut last Wednesday for someone at 5:25 pm and I absolutely love it on him and he is very happy with it. I wanted to do the honors and personally write a review on behalf of both of us! I initially called to try and do a walk in a week before with Nash but he was very busy. Although he was busy he gave me the best times to come in , should he be interested. He even mentioned his lunch time , which is astonishing that he would take time away from lunch to work on clients. Luckily, this place was a website where you can book appointments , and I was able to make one a week out. Although the cut was 15 min later than scheduled, Nash explained that someone had come in late and that caused a string of late cuts. Note: please make your appointment on time so others are on time! Nash did a great job with the details - cutting hair so intricately - you can tell it is passion and it's an art. He makes sure you are satisfied and the overall result was just fantastic. I went in for my first time getting my hair cut here and it was a total mistake. As you enter the first chair on your right... that guy was horrible. I don't often get my hair cut but when I do I like it to be a little bit of quality especially if it's $35 + tip. This guy was so unfocused, first of all because he was on his PHONE the whole entire time while cutting my hair with one hand!! I asked for a fade using a number one and both sides came out uneven somehow. The line up on both sides of my ears and side burns has two different shapes. The line up on my neck was so high up past my ear lobes. I don't know how this guy even got hired other than just by being Chaldean. I timed him and it took him roughly 16 minutes to ruin my hair. The guy across from him looked way more professional in cutting and was taking his time with his customer. I showered and brushed off all the loose hairs and noticed all around my ears were long hairs that were all supposed to be cut. I will never go back but just to warn anyone thinking of going **DO NOT GO TO THE GUY IN THE FIRST CHAIR ON YOUR RIGHT AS YOU WALK IN**. He is trash at cutting hair. read more

I really hate to write this, but unfortunately this cut just wasn't it. I originally went in for a touch up on my hair, nothing major, just wanted a small trim and a beard line up. Kyle convinced me to go with a smaller cut because I had expressed that I wanted my front line up to be fixed. I thought okay why not. I didn't have it planned to go shorter but I figured I'd take his advice since he's the barber and knows best. Well, I was wrong unfortunately. Once my haircut was cut shorter I noticed there was a huge gap left on the right side of my head. Now that's always been there, but when I normally get a front line up the barber goes with the shape of my head, so everything looks even out. I told Kyle to go for the lineup thinking as a barber he would know best to line me up around the way the shape my head is. But for some reason, Kyle decided to go square and went even further up in the front line up. When he noticed the mistake, he then said, "don't worry I'll fix it"... Unfortunately it was too late, now it looks very uneven with what the front shape of my head is. As you can see from the pics below. The front line up was too off and the front of my hair looks like a square box. Kyle seemed very nervous and at times lost. Unfortunately this cut just wasn't it. The beard lineup was also decent, something I could of have done at home myself to be honest. I've gotten beard line-ups with Nash before and he was very detailed so I figured Kyle would be as well. But again, he seemed confused. There was patches that he left on my goatee that I had to politely remind him to work on that area. If you do get work done here, I would go with Nash or Rand. I've gotten my haircut and beard-line up by Nash and he does amazing work. read more

So I went in to this place because I needed a haircut last minute, poor planning on my part, my usual girl was all booked out and I'm starting a new job tomorrow so needed it quick. Went in and the guy clearly didn't speak English very well. But I can't chalk up the bad haircut too the language barrier because lucky for me I found pictures before going in if what I wanted. You'll see what I showed the guy and what I got from him. He chopped off the sides WAYY more than I asked and they was before I stopped him while I felt him oiling up the sides of my head all the way it felt like over an inch ABOVE MY EARS! This dude was about to take a straight razor HALFWAY UP MY FREAKING HEAD!! Seriously?! Thank God I said something when I felt the lather. All in all he made the hard part WAY too high and chopped the side all the way to it which is clearly not like the pic I showed him of what I wanted. Now my head looks lopsided and I had to take a bunch off the top to compensate as much as I could for this jacked up fade. I think I just got a bad stylist because everyone else around me got normal good looking haircuts and nice clean fades and I came out looking like I'm auditioning for a freaking vanilla ice music video! As he cut off my hair, it became evident to me that he was an expert in his craft, and it really showed in my hair. Don't bother. I get there early on a Saturday morning and signed in. As I sit there for an hour, multiple customers walk in and sit down for their haircuts. Meanwhile I'm patiently waiting without any real communication. After the fourth newcomer walks in in front of me that was enough, I asked about scheduling appointments and he said just go online. A heads up would've been nice! At least show some concern for those waiting. They could care less! Critical review: High wait times High prices Slow service Long wait times No cognisance of customer schedule i.E if they only have 30 mins for a haircut etc First time here. Was hoping for a decent haircut in a decent amount of time. Arrived at 3:15 or so, got seated to have a haircut at 4. There were two people ahead of me. One just sat down and the other was almost done with a haircut that looked like a masterpiece! (At least 30 mins of work) Finally get seated. Guy working their asks me if I had signed in, I didn't know I had to sign in, he kindly signed in for me then asked his colleague to cut my hair. His colleague didn't bother to dust of the chair from the previous hair cut so had to sit in another persons hair. He got talking about the UK ( as it where I'm from) and France (where the barber lived for many years). I mentioned how I had experienced racism in France on a number of occasions and he launched into a whole debate and story about his life and how the French are not racist. What I thought was going to be a light interesting discussion became a huge conversation where he barber paused to explain or 'tell me' a fact. This meant my haircut took even longer after an already long wait...I mean I loved chatting but seriously this guy seemed fairly insecure and was taking things personally... Haircut itself was mediocre and I think it's because we were talking etc. at times it felt like I was being lectured rather than getting my hair cut and having a nice chat about France etc Didn't get get dusted off at the end. Just lined up my neck and that was it... Worst part: prices - starts at 35 for a basic haircut - with beard your taking 65 WATCH OUT FOR CUSTOM TIP SETTINGS if paying by card: the options for tips at 40%-60%...you can change this to the normal settings and pay 10-15% but they don't tell you this till it's too late... That means these guys literally think thier work is so good they deserve to start at a 40% tip rate... read more

I never write reviews! I came in for a simple shave. The barber clearly had never given a hot towel flat razor shave before. I noticed pretty much right away in how he prepped my face. I asked him if he didn't feel comfortable he didn't have to doHe pretty much butchered my face, and then the owner had to step in. The owner blamed me for not shaving often... then charged me the full price. The towel was smelly and cold and the barber was poorly trained. The owner was probably a talented barber but this was a horrible experience and I don't want anyone else to have to endure what I had to go through. read more
