This time, the shop owner showed how much they care about their customers which is extremely important for such a small business. I took my youngest sons (4&5 yo) to get last minute haircuts after having lunch this afternoon. I was able to make appointments online on the shop website, and 15 minutes later my boys were sitting in chairs getting trims! When we walked in we were greeted with smiles and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I was able to pay ahead of time as well, which was very convenient since my boys want to get up and move right away. Convenient location in the epicenter of the Del Mar Highlands Plaza. A stones throw from Jimbos, Vuori, Dirty Dogs, and Handels! The "beach" design of the space is stylish, spacious, clean and comfortable. I was offered a water - which is a small, nice gesture, but adds to a great experience. The lounge chairs and barber chairs are very comfortable. Rachel S. cut my hair and I will simply say, "I found my new barber." Big fan of Connor. I followed him from his prior shop to Salted Barber and love it. First, the shop. Extremely easy to get to, loads of parking, bright and inviting interior, chairs nicely spaced apart, and strong drink options if you need to wait. Booking an appointment online couldn't be easier with Salted Barber's super user-friendly website, and there are tons of great lunch and shopping options if your significant other is tagging along. Back to Connor. This is my guy. He's very detail oriented and offered some of the best advice I've ever received about my hair. I've been asking people for years if they have any ideas and all I ever get is some wishy washy nonsense that essentially amounts to "whatever you like." Not only did Connor make decisive recommendations, he went to the trouble to explain in detail why he was making the recommendations and what he saw as the areas we could improve on my prior styling. No jargon, no fluff, just great advice, and I think my hair looks better than it ever has. Oh, and the guy remembers everything each time I come in. No idea how he does this but I need it. I can't describe what I need my stylist to do. I just need Connor to do what he does, and I come out looking great every single time. Bottom line is, if you're a guy looking for a great cut and great advice from a place that is super easy to book and easy to get to, Salted Barber is your spot! Making an appointment online is easy, but in hindsight I probably should have been wary when this place had plenty of next day openings while competing shops were booked a week out. This barbershop charges premium prices and offers bottled water when you leave, but the quality of the cut was similar to Great Clips. I requested short sides and not much removed from the top, but the barber went to town on the top and left the sides mostly untouched for some reason. Near the end of my 30 minute slot, it felt like the barber stopped midway through the cut to get to the next customer. I was never asked how I liked the cut or if I wanted anything changed before leaving, and with the barber hurrying to start on the next customer I didn't feel like asking for changes was an option. Oh well, hair grows back. read more

Rarely do I find a place that can balance both so well, but after my first visit to Salted Barber, I think this place has hit the mark for me. For those who are used to lower-end barbershop prices, the initial pricing may seem high, but for someone who has regularly paid $90+ for a haircut at a salon, I thought the prices were very fair for the quality of the cut, and the extra amenities that will be familiar to anyone who has paid for a salon experience. If you're on the fence, I say go for it. As someone who has worked in and around the hair industry for years now, I believe getting a haircut should be an experience to look forward to--not simply something to tick off your 'to-do' list.
