Large selection of everything. From baked goods, desserts, to specialty items like smoked salmon and foie Gras. This place had so many quebec local products. I spent at least 15 minutes browsing the store and I spent wayyyyy too much money on food I couldn't possibly finish during my stay in montreal. But darn. It's an experience and I had alittle bit of everything and it all was so delicious. I found the coffees to be mediocre though. So skip that. Bonus. I loved that this place opened up earlier than most. As I was trying to find a spot to eat at in the wee morning when everything for blocks was closed except for this place.

Stopped by here for a quick lunch. Service was fairly fast and it wasn't too crowded, but we went on a Sunday afternoon (I can imagine it gets very busy on weekdays). You basically take a number and you can order when you're called. There is a large display of the food available, which is basically premade sandwiches, pastries, pies, quiches, salads, etc. You can get a meal (main dish + salad or soup or desert + coffee/tea) for a decent price, less than $15. Signage is all in French though, although some servers do speak English. Unfortunately when I was ordering there was some miscommunication because my French is terrible and some of the signs for their food is missing. Some items you pay by weight and others you pay per item. There are also plenty of breads and their other products for sale. I got a turkey pie/pastry (unsure of name) and the palm hearts salad. The salad was fresh and crunchy, and the pastry was very rich and buttery. They offer to warm it up for you, and it was delicious, with meaty chunks in the filling and well seasoned. The tables are quite small and it can get a bit noisy, so probably not the best place to stick around and study. There's free water on a counter as well. Altogether a good experience, but it's a bit too expensive for a student budget to go often.

I haven't been to too many bakeries in Montreal just YET, so maybe my standards aren't so high. But I will say that Premiere Moisson is definitely one of my favorite places to get something baked with gluten. I've never been disappointed. I was lucky enough to get their last loaf of sourdough yesterday, and I haven't been able to stop munching on that thing! Soft, complex, textured, flavorful. When I find myself with a decent package of aged cheese, I definitely hit up PM for a baguette. Or if I'm feeling sweet, their almond croissants hit the spot. Luckily for me, this location is a 15-20 min walk away, and the exercise is worth it!

Services are really not great particularly during lunch hours. If I come back to this area again, I would definitely choose the other competitors such as Le Pain Doré or Le Brûlerie St-Denis, or even grab a chicken shish taouk sandwich at Kebab, as a much cheaper and more delicious option. Here are our orders: 1. Sandwich with chicken breast, avocado and tomato (with poppy seed white baguette) 2. Quiche stuffed with meat 3. Celery creamy soup I personally found that eaters could easily get a better option in the surrounding areas.

Great place for breakfast! I had the strawberry crêpes and they were absolutely fantastic. Large portions, soft crêpes stuffed to the brim with fresh fruit covered in sweet maple syrup. Slightly pricey for what I got, but well worth it for an occasional meal.

Love their croissants. I always strip by to pick up some for the week. Nice ambiance, amicable staff. And the pastries, oh my, can't go wrong!

This location has a really nice atmosphere to it. The sandwiches, salads and pastries make for plenty of choices to enjoy a wonderful lunch. They have a terrace out front and plenty of seating inside.

This bakery was one of the highlights of my trip to Montreal. Had either their Apricot croissant and raisin Croissant for breakfast almost daily. Great variety of cakes and pastries.

    Yum!

I heard that smoked meat was something you should eat while in Canada. My BF and I were exploring…read moreOld Montreal and needed a lunch spot, so a quick Yelp search helped us find Smoking Meat. We ordered the smoked meat trio and the poutine with smoked meat. The smoked meat trio includes a sandwich, cole slaw, and water. I've never had Canadian smoked meat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be a lot smokier, but I'm glad it wasn't. It reminded me of NYC corned beef sammies. The poutine with the smoked meat was also great. This was definitely enough food for two people, especially since the poutine is so heavy. We actually thought we ordered the smoked meat plate, which includes all of the items from the trio, plus a pickle and more french fries. When we asked them about it, we realized that we probably just ordered the wrong thing. However, they brought us out some extra fries (which we definitely didn't need), but it was really nice of them to do so. It was a nice textural change from the gravy-soaked fries we had been eating. Overall, it was a great meal - but definitely not something that I could eat that often.

This restaurant is over rated…read more Although they are the only restaurant in the area within the older town of Montreal, near the Notre dame, I didn't think their smoked meat was as great as I tasted in the outskirts of montreal. The smoked meat was salty, oily and expensive, the poutine wasn't the best either. Such a small portion that was expensive, probably because it was in a tourist area. Don't think I'd eat here again unless I can't get out of the older montreal area because there's other places much less oily and more reasonable.

On the outside, this place might look like a tourist trap, but locals and families coming here…read moresince 1954 will tell you there's a reason it's called the King of Smoked Meat! It's a family-owned institution that serves up warmth, tradition and is famous for pizza, smoked meat, seafood, grilled meats, salads, desserts, cheesecake, and more. Open late when most other places are closed, it's an unpretentious diner where my friends and I were glad to share some laughs, jokes with the waitstaff, and good food. We couldn't decide on what to order, so we defaulted to a poutine and a smoked meat platter with extra coleslaw. It felt like being in one of those late night diners with a large menu with lots of choices. The poutine didn't make the honour roll; it didn't fail, but I'd say it was decent and it passed. The smoked meat coming in as the valedictorian was not surprising since it's the namesake of the place. My friends prefer their smoked meat with a little bit of melt-in-your-mouth fat whereas I prefer it lean. Our waitress was kind enough to put both buttery, fatty and lean pieces on the platter so we were all happy. There was mustard ready to go at our booth table, we were ready to slather it on the rye bread. The smoked meat was warm, tender, tasty and delicious! The coleslaw also was good too with a good amount of sourness and garlic flavour. It's an alternative to Lester's, Snowdon Deli, or Schwartz's. I'd definitely return for the cozy ambiance and smoked meat.

Amazing food, service , and ambiance…read more A visit to Montreal isn't complete without a stop at Schwartz's Deli. The smoked meat sandwich absolutely lived up to the hype. The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, piled high between fresh rye bread with just the right amount of mustard. The atmosphere is classic, authentic, and full of history. Even with the line outside, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was worth every minute of the wait. The pickle and fries were the perfect sides to complement the rich smoked meat. You can tell why this place has become a Montreal institution. Simple menu, legendary food, and an experience that feels uniquely local. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.

We walked into a space that is small, constantly packed, and built around fast turnover rather than comfort, with people lining up at the counter while orders get called out across a loud, crowded room. The energy hit us right away, and it felt more like stepping into a system that has been running the same way for decades rather than a modern restaurant experience. The smoked meat sandwich is the main reason to come here, and it delivers in a very direct, no-frills way. We ordered one and found the meat thick, heavily seasoned, and with a deep smoky flavor that came through right away. The texture stood out most, tender but still structured enough to hold its bite, especially when stacked on rye bread with mustard. It is simple in concept but feels complete in execution, with nothing on the plate trying to distract from the main item. The sides like pickles, coleslaw, and fries felt more supportive than essential. We tried the poutine and found it solid and filling, but it clearly sat in the background compared to the smoked meat sandwich. Everything on the menu seemed centered around that one item, and the rest of the food reinforced that focus rather than expanding it into a wider dining experience. Seating is communal and tightly packed, which added to the overall intensity of the place. It was common to share tables with strangers, and there was very little personal space once we sat down. The noise level stayed high the entire time, but the service was quick, so the pace of the meal kept things moving even when it felt crowded. Schwartz's Deli feels like a Montreal institution defined by its simplicity and consistency. It is not a comfortable sit-down meal, but the smoked meat sandwich is strong enough to make the entire experience worth it, especially if you are there for what it is known for rather than the setting around it.
