    So many treats!
    Maddy B.

The smell of freshly baked bread enticed me to walk in , and I didn't regret it. This Jewish bakery and cafe had an entrancing choice of treats on display, with the rustic chalk on blackboard menu of the drinks confirming my stay here. I decided , after much deliberation, to go for the aptly named 'Oh Mon dieu' croissant, and a cappuccino. And it's true, as soon as I took my very first bite of the croissant , my expression matched the name perfectly. The weight of the croissant is insane, it's completely packed full of choclatey almond goodness. The coffee was a nice compliment with it, however the real star of the show in this cafe is definitely the OMD. With a rustic interior surrounded by hanging lights and comfy seats, you'll spend a few hours in Mamie Clafoutis. I certainly can't wait for my next venture here! That's right... It's already been booked in. 10/10 recommend!

I like educating myself about local pastry shops, I don't get out much so when my food blogger friend introduced me go Mamie Clafoutis because we were looking for a dessert shop, this was perfect. It looks like a little French bakery in the heart of Montreal. The display had me drooling that I had to order 4 desserts to try out. The croissants were particularly calling to me but I stuck to dessert. The prices are not cheap, but you're paying for the experience. We sat upstairs, I was nostalgic as I felt like I was a student again studying for my finals in a old fashioned café. My favourite was the lemon meringue tart! I couldn't finish the rest. This spot was cute in so many ways. Date, study, friend catchup or self care-mamie Clafoutis has got you !

I love this location. Free wifi, comfy seating, fast service. It's a wonderful bakery. They have such good chocolate pastries. Try the oh mon dieu or a brownie. So good!

Very friendly staff. Croissants especially their mini sized ones could be more flaky. Cheddar flavoured and their regular size chocolate croissants were good. I personally prefer plain croissants that are more buttery.

Stunning bakery & coffee shop - you will fall in love as soon as you enter. There is a lot to choose from - a variety of delicious breads including the famous Jewish 'Challah' bread, gourmet pastries & of course cannot forget the 'Clafoutis' itself. I was in Outremont and was looking for a quiet place to read. This place is definitely the BEST coffee shop in Outremont to get some work done or even meet friends. They have the cutest, homely 'messy attic vibe' seating area upstairs with mismatched furniture, an old piano, comfy sofas and reliable WIFI. I spent a good 4 hours there and loved it. I had a Mocha which was OK but I would probably go elsewhere for my hot drinks. As for the pastries, I ordered the 'Oh Mon Dieu' croissant (as advised by all the good reviews) and it really is worth the hype! It is like a mega mouth-watering combination of an almond croissant and a chocolatine! Heaven!

Nowadays these places (although some exist) have become more specialized and need to charge more money. This is due to the advent of mass grocery and Costco have taken over the lions share of the meat business. Offerings here are fresh cut (aged) meat. Loads of local bottled and canned products. A small selection of fresh dairy products and what I come for the cured saucisson. Last year I spent the month of June in France and developed a semi-addiction to cured saucisson. I'm not proud of it (hence my mom and doctor warn in moderation) but this is the best offering I have found in Quebec. Pork shop (available at your local IGA) does a fine version however it's just the bit more delicious here at Lawrence. Also purchased are bottles of St Leon maple syrup. $25 a big bottle is a bit steep but it makes a wonderful gift or delicious in the morning on your pancakes or toast. Being in the heart of the Plateau then can cater to those who are willing to pay a bit more. I believe the meat shop is connected to Lawrence restaurant a few doors down which does a dandy brunch.

Arguably, the most famous smoked meat spot in the city is Schwartz's - and indeed when we were walking past it there was a huge line of people waiting to get in. Smoked meat wasn't on the top of my list, as I could easily go to a Jewish Deli in NYC - but we were on a food tour and this was one of the stops. That being said, I was looking forward to checking out the meats. Lester's is located in Outremont, which is also the home to Montreal's Hasidic Jewish community. The place gave off old school vibes - walking in we were greeted by the deli counter with tables scattered throughout the dining room. The decor was charming and casual with touches of kitsch on the walls without being tacky. There is a good variety of classic deli dishes, though we went classic and got the smoked meat with rye, pickles, and mustard. There was enough for each of us to make one sandwich, so that's what we did. This was honestly better than I expected - the meat was juicy and tender, the bread was soft yet was able to withstand being part of a sandwich, and the pickles were super flavorful. Special shoutout to the mustard - we were told they make their own which I felt was a really special touch. Service was good, and overall this was an unexpected highlight of my food tour. Jewish deli food is not something I usually gravitate towards, but this was some of the best I've had - it's well worth making a trip here.

The meat was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, piled high between fresh rye bread with just the right amount of mustard. The atmosphere is classic, authentic, and full of history. Even with the line outside, the service was efficient and friendly, and the food was worth every minute of the wait. The pickle and fries were the perfect sides to complement the rich smoked meat. You can tell why this place has become a Montreal institution. Simple menu, legendary food, and an experience that feels uniquely local. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal.

We walked into a space that is small, constantly packed, and built around fast turnover rather than comfort, with people lining up at the counter while orders get called out across a loud, crowded room. The energy hit us right away, and it felt more like stepping into a system that has been running the same way for decades rather than a modern restaurant experience. The smoked meat sandwich is the main reason to come here, and it delivers in a very direct, no-frills way. We ordered one and found the meat thick, heavily seasoned, and with a deep smoky flavor that came through right away. The texture stood out most, tender but still structured enough to hold its bite, especially when stacked on rye bread with mustard. It is simple in concept but feels complete in execution, with nothing on the plate trying to distract from the main item. The sides like pickles, coleslaw, and fries felt more supportive than essential. We tried the poutine and found it solid and filling, but it clearly sat in the background compared to the smoked meat sandwich. Everything on the menu seemed centered around that one item, and the rest of the food reinforced that focus rather than expanding it into a wider dining experience. Seating is communal and tightly packed, which added to the overall intensity of the place. It was common to share tables with strangers, and there was very little personal space once we sat down. The noise level stayed high the entire time, but the service was quick, so the pace of the meal kept things moving even when it felt crowded. Schwartz's Deli feels like a Montreal institution defined by its simplicity and consistency. It is not a comfortable sit-down meal, but the smoked meat sandwich is strong enough to make the entire experience worth it, especially if you are there for what it is known for rather than the setting around it.
