Staff didn't follow his plan to feed him because the "agency " staff didn't show up to perform their duties. The administration fails to come in on weekends to help cover. They didn't have an AED machine that they thought they had? People constantly calling out for help. Pathetic excuse for long term care. KCTV5 & InvestigateTV even did a exposure piece on this incident. We are heartbroken and traumatized.

They deserve 5 stars. The place is clean. The ladies at the door were nice. (The lady at the nurse station was condescending, as others on the admin team.) I should have posted this long ago. I thought it was a rare instance of incompetence. But what if it wasn't? Attitude starts at the top. This is where it starts here in an inappropriate and condensing way. The "top" rushed me out, disrespected and did not care. IN A NUTSHELL: Mom had a stroke. Failed the hospital mental assessment. Physical therapy was ongoing/important they said for another year. They would not release her on her own cognisense. She would not give anyone power of attorney to get her to a rehab, then care facility. She wanted to go home. Unfortunately, everyone knew that was not possible. She needed professional care teams around in a suitable environment. I had to get conservatorship for them to release her. And promise that she goes into another rehab. They would transfer her. They did. I chose this place. I chose wrong. Conservatorship was approved, but pending/pending paperwork. It was due the day after mom went here or so. But was delayed until next Monday. That didn't matter. I was not given the time of day properly in the beginning here. I expect a professional rehab place to: Be fully aware of their patients' immediate health history from a hospital, why they are coming to them, what is expected. Read such important documentation where someone had been for weeks in order to make informed decisions on a patient's therapy needs/future discharge. Take the time to talk. I asked to speak to them prior to the meeting with our mom. They did not have time. I told everyone I saw the reason for this need. There were sensitive matters I wanted to discuss with them without our mom present. I found out quickly when your mom is "high functioning" with dementia, it's best to say sensitive matters when she is not there to avoid upset. Not violate HIPAA laws by sharing another patient's medical history. I have the pages. I know it was a mistake, but they actually gave me another patients' medical records! Be professional. NOT discharge a patient unsafely. NOT charge for mistakes they made. Give appropriate evaluations and listen to doctors and family. Mom was evaluated very quickly. The evaluator did not see any reason for her to be there. She made a miraculous stroke recovery it seems! Only a day or so after the hospital doctors said she needed more time at a rehab or she would "slide backwards" in the progress she had made. Her hospital rehab nurse told me was "frighteningly" good at masking. Adhere to a judge's orders, not have a high functioning dementia patient sign legal papers. Listen to family regarding the safety of keeping a patient off of the app where the scammers can get back to her...someone "helped" her..."what place did I have to deny her access to her phone?" Very condensing. I was written off. Well, Homeland had it for one thing. At this point, we were not sure where the scammers were located. They could have been close and "visited" her there. Putting everyone in danger. I told them. "CARE" MEETING: I walk into the "care" meeting at this place now, the day or two after she was admitted, and was told she could go home! Great news they said! They had already told mom. (I was out talking with Homeland agents for mom's scam/fraud case, so came in a bit late.) This would have been great news. But it was not, she needed help. I live halfway across the country. She would not come out my way. Mom masked well with them prior to this meeting. She's not dumb. She wanted out. A woman hollered all day and night. I would want to leave too. Then it all hit the fan. They saw their mistake. Saw her dementia finally come out. Saw the needs due to stroke, etc. They tried to discharge her unsafely. I told them I was searching for the next place for her to live more permanently. After this incompetence, I definitely did not talk with the Village's assisted living! I told them I was told she would be there for 3 days min, maybe 2 weeks. They said that is not a thing. They said she needed to go. Now. They had already "cancelled" the insurance. I never signed anything. They had a high functioning dementia patient sign legal paperwork; in which a judge said she was not allowed to do. All in the paperwork they refused to find time to read. She was only there a few days past this horrible meeting. I got her out as fast as possible. They are trying to make mom pay for this. They have sent a lawyer into the mix...telling her to "liquidate". It's just over $1,000ish. But it's not happening. I don't see how it's worth it to them, especially now. They asked me before mom left to post a review. That they needed a "boost" in their low ratings. Here you go.

He eventually moved to Parks Meadow in January of 2023; however, it was recommended that he reserve his unit by paying the December 2022 rent. Unfortunately, soon after his move he became ill, hospitalized and passed away in mid-February, 2023. His stay at Park Meadows was only 3 1/2 weeks (late January to mid-February). The family paid March rent as we needed time to remove his belongings from the unit. In all, we paid 4 month's rent for his short stay. Another part of his "singing" up for Park Meadows was a "one time non-refundable" Community Fee - in this case $10,000 listed on page 40 of a 52-page lease agreement. It was explained that the Community Fee would lower his rent over his stay at Park Meadows. The family requested that Park Meadows refund at least part of the Community Fee. as his unit was only used a short time and he did not get a chance to use dining or any other facility amenities. Obviously, the family is very disappointed, and surprised, on the position Park Meadows is taking. Although there is no legal recourse, we find it unethical for Park Meadows to keep all of the "Community Fee" as his residence was so short in time. In speaking to the business officer at the facility, she could only say "it's out of my hands" and "I completely understand". In the end, it feels like a 92 year old man was taken advantage of with a very long and detailed lease agreement and an insensitive corporate entity.

Anthology was brand new with no track record. We soon learned there was nothing to worry about. This is a beautiful, state of the art facility located in a vibrant commercial and cultural part of Kansas City. A review of the monthly activities calendar was enough to assure me that my brother would be fully occupied with an abundance of mind-stretching and body-strengthening exercises designed to meet each resident's needs. Above all it's the staff at Anthology that makes this place so special. Not only are they energetic and superbly credentialed but also they are warm, caring people, who are never too busy to stop and chat with a resident or drop by the daily Happy Hour where residents gather with family and friends to tell of their day's adventures or those of days gone by. It didn't take long for my brother to settle in and become part of "the gang" as the residents like to call themselves. He has taken the greatest pleasure in decorating his apartment that glows with natural light and views of the Plaza. During my last visit we spent the day careening around Target picking up a few finishing touches (well maybe more than a few). On the way back, as we approached Anthology, he smiled at me and said, "I'm almost home!"
