It's got a bar / restaurant that is open for breakfast and for meals and drinks in an evening. The location is handy that it's only a couple of minutes drive from the A1. Right next to the hotel there is a Subways, a chinese restaurant and take away and a convenience store and a pharmacy. Just over the road is the supremely ugly Galleria shopping centre, which has got a few resteraunts in it and a load of outlet shops and a cinema. Just look out for the local teenage urchins hanging around! It's local to the university if you need somewhere to stay if visiting a student. The new police station is just round the corner if that is the kind of thing you look for when considering a hotel!

Close to several restaurants. Cons: Absolutely no soundproofing and the building construction is extreamly cheap. You WILL hear every step someone makes in the room above you, the floors squeak like they are a hundred years old. If the person above you gets up before you expect to be woken up. Additionally, I know this is a low cost room but basics like a telephone and cloths iron are not provided. Good to know: Internet is not free and is expensive.

Paid a bit more than £300 for this room, it was absolutely not worth it whatsoever. I couldn't find one good thing about the room. I'm not going to Pay £300 for a USED room that's not been cleaned whatsoever. My first time using premier inn... never again! The tea cups weren't even cleaned and had debris all over them!! It's more like a hostel to me, than an actual hotel due to the state of the room. I would have rather booked holiday inn, if I knew this is what I was going to receive. The upstairs holiday makers were stomping about the room all night, sleep was very hard to get. Never again! Don't stay here!

Having to attend a conference near by I was put in the Premier Inn to stay…read more Whilst it doesn't have its own car park there is one across the road which isn't expensive and at the time of writing the review you can also pay via Ringo so it's all good. The room was clean and pleasant, and a good night sleep was had. There is a restaurant onsite and whilst I went out for dinner I did try there breakfast which as you would expect offered everything from fruit to a full cooked breakfast and yes you can have as much as want.

A little further down the street is The Bull, and travellers staying at the two hotels vied with each other to the telling outrageous 'tales of the road', which supposedly led to the famous phrase 'Cock and Bull story' derives. Today The Cock Hotel is a decent place for bar meals, weddings and overnight stays. There is a nice enclosed paved area away from the main street, and private car parking at the rear accessible from Vicarage Road at the rear. The bar meals are generally good value, but I've found some of their mass catering for groups to be rather disappointing.

Staff were attentive to dietary requirements. For the afternoon tea they require a deposit during booking. (Advice is to book your afternoon tea well ahead of time, with your set dietary requirements so they can accommodate for this beforehand). We went during Christmas, so the afternoon tea was composed for the season. This consisted of seasonal sandwiches, seasonal cakes and treats. Very generous portions for the price, and lovely desserts. As for the sandwiches, they were not up to scratch unfortunately. Very basic tasting, and dry. This is why I am giving a 3 star rating, as I would probably only return for the location / ambiance / dessert aspect of the afternoon tea. Parking is in abundance. Do check it out!

The reception isn't manned and although the office meant the staff were 6 foot away through an open door, I had to pick up the phone and dial '0'!As the lady began to answer the phone as though it were an outside line, she looked surprised when I said hello! from 2 places at once. Weird. As I spoke to the lady (face to face now) and she was helpful, but her demeanor gave me the impression she was trying to hear me above the voices shouting in her head! That is possibly a little unfair, maybe she had a migrain. The room was at the top of the stairs, and everything looked on the surface very much in order. However. Flushing the toilet created a moan from the pipes which would put a fog horn to shame! The radiator made noises every so often that sounded like pebbles being thrown down a corrugated iron roof. It needed bleeding, very badly. It woke me in the night several times. I did sleep pretty well, and the breakfast was ok. I have yet to check out, so if I have any other comment, I will add them later :-) £59 a night including full english breakfast. The same woman checked me out, and still had the disconcerting expression. Mouth smiling, eybrows puzzlingly frowning.

The paths around the lake are great for watching the sunrise/set or just for some good ol exercise. The staff is very polite and helpful. Unfortunately, the Inn doesn't have air conditioning however, they offer fans. I would recommend adding a screen for the windows so you can keep fresh air in and the many bugs out.
