New to the area, I was pleased to discover Metropolitan Pool Service just 5 minutes away. It saved me a half-hour trip to the nearest Litehouse, as they had everything I needed! Unassuming from the outside, you might not even realize they have a pool retail shop component. It looks more like a pool maintenance and repair company (which they are). However they also have a small storefront, complete with free water testing, any chemicals you might need, some common pool tools, and a knowledgeable team member or two on hand to answer any questions you might have. I found their water test results to be very detailed and informative on just what I needed chemical-wise, and how to apply. What's more, a copy of my results was also automatically emailed to me -- and saved on file for comparison on my next stop on. However do note that being a smaller operation, they don't have the bells and whistles Litehouse does in terms of a variety of pool toys, patio furniture, grills and the like. You'll have to go elsewhere for that stuff. But if you're just looking for a local place to pick up your common maintenance items through the summer, or need any pool repairs or parts, I highly recommend Metropolitan! This is my new pool go-to.

Pros: closes at 8pm, plenty of chairs and area, huge bathhouse, Olympic size pool, not intensely chlorinated, and the pool is soooooo refreshing during mid-tanning. In the mornings, there's adult lap swim times (set up for 25Y lengths), and in the afternoons the play pool, lazy river, and water slide open up. Swim lessons are offered periodically, and you're sure to hear a game of Marco Polo happening during open swim. Park in the same lot you would to get to the ice rink and other venues inside the Community Center, and walk directly towards the gate to get access to the pool. All this obviously comes at a price, and depending on whether you're a resident of Shaker Heights or not, there are pricing packages for individual day passes and season passes. Inquire inside the Community Center for more information and to purchase a pass. They use special wristbands to delineate your age and access so its easier for lifeguards to know who's cleared to lap swim - safety first! I come mainly to lap swim and while I love that they're open until 8PM, it's not the most optimal pool for training. They don't have the large time clocks to do swim sets, and when I come earlier on the weekends I'm often competing with the other regulars to share a lane. My biggest qualm is the lack of flags demarcating the last 5Y of each end of a lap which are helpful when swimming backstroke. At least the lanelines are colored differently though. There are ample lounge chairs and canopied areas for families to set up camp. If tanning is your game, you can easily find a spot on the deck for that too. I haven't been able to find lockers during my time here but there are separate men and women's bathrooms easily accessible adjacent to the lifeguard's lounge area. They have kickboards available to borrow nearby as well.

We've been coming to this Lakewood pool every day for a week. The woman at the front was always…read morekind -- but today, there was someone new we'd never seen before. Out of nowhere, she demanded to see our Lakewood ID, which we didn't have this one time, and turned us away like we were trying to sneak in. There was no large sign visible enough to see this policy -- just a sudden change in attitude from someone who didn't even know us or our family. What made it worse was the way she looked at us: we are a brown family, and the look said it all. We felt singled out, judged, and completely unwelcome in a place we've supported every single day. Even worse? We watched as white families came in right before and after us, and not one of them was asked to show an ID. Not one. Just us. If you have rules, enforce them fairly for everyone -- don't pick and choose who gets questioned based on how they look. This lack of consistency, courtesy, and basic respect ruined what should have been another fun day for our family. We'll be taking our money and our time to a place that treats all paying families with fairness and dignity -- no matter what we look like.

The owner is very nice. Redwood is members only, so you have to come with a member or become one yourself. I recommend joining if you need a place to swim and you live in Twinsburg, Hudson, Aurora, or even Streetsboro.
