During Covid days we are all looking for a safe , serene environment where we can participate in healthy outdoor activities . Dave Barr and his staff has created such an environment . The outdoor facilities ( pools, tennis etc) are in the best condition I've seen in many years. Everything is updated and fresh. The indoor facilities have also undergone an amazing transformation with new decor in the community rooms and top of the line indoor tennis, and fitness . Thanks Dave for all you've done !

I joined for the pool and unfortunately it is filled a lot with kids making it harder to swim laps and decent times, including after work since the high school practices then, but overall I truly think if a family is looking for a place to play tennis, have fun with the community, and have the kids burn energy, this is your place! The pool is run of the mill except they close whenever they feel like it, even when they're supposed to be open. Found that out the hard way. The dining... is just not good. Five frozen shrimp from Lucky's dropped on a plate for $18 and they call it shrimp cocktail. Drinks made by someone who doesn't even know how to make basic cocktails, and the food was served on paper plates and plastic cups. The service staff is made up of clueless kids and people who look like they just fell out of a trailer. My husband asked for a merlot and was told "we only have red or white" and then they brought him a glass of rose from a box. Literally 1985 flock of seagulls hair on a coughing cigarette of a woman was our waitress. The bar was full of drunken women screaming at each other. The whole thing was totally unappealing.

Squash at MVRC is played on American Squash Courts. There are two of them. It's a different game…read morethan that played on International Singles Courts. Size does make a difference, especially when you are just learning the game. I learned to play squash here and was a member for about 8 years, as my office used to be located just up the street. The staff is wonderful and friendly as are the members. The squash offering here is very affordable, but limited. It is clearly not the mainstay of this club. The courts are best described as adequate at that time. The courts were not maintained as I would have liked back in the day. Often, I grabbed a broom myself and dusted the courts before playing. The walls were only washed a couple times if that in my tenure there. The squash courts were flooded a few years back, due to ongoing roof issues. I cancelled my membership due to the lengthy repair timeline after a flood that turned the two courts into swimming pools. As a gesture of EXCELLENT SERVICE...which it certainly was...MVRC made arrangements for its squash members to play at Cleveland Racquet Club. I will always remember my early beginnings of Squash fondly at MVRC. I have not been back, nor heard anything through the squash grapevine, about the new, repaired courts/ program. If you are SERIOUS about your squash game, I highly recommend looking into other clubs that are more committed to Squash. You'll be a better player for it, but you'll be a little more invested in a membership as well. Like I said, MVRC is very affordable. For the money, you can't go wrong. This club's focus is primarily tennis. My father played tennis there for almost two decades and always enjoyed the quality of the tennis courts, the staff, and the members there. MVRC has a pro shop, a nice lounge area, towel service, sauna, and two small locker rooms (you will need to bring a lock). I am rating 3 star based upon the Squash program...not the tennis. It is constantly closed on and off yet again, despite the new re-grand opening as of July '26. This has been an ongoing issue for almost 10 years. I cannot understand the gross complacency of an aquatic center for the community, only to have it still in constant repair and never open. And I'm not writing about the Competition Pool - it's the Leisure Pool. The Leisure Pool is the selling point. It is the reason for the new price hike in membership. For members to finally enjoy the "new and improved" pool, sauna, etc after so many years of waiting. What a disgrace.

The water is kind of murky but it's apparently safe. Along with the beach is the park. There's some great views. It seems like a safe area. There's usually someone on patrol. It has a public bathroom. It doesn't reek of piss. They charge for parking but you can park for free on a side street.

This is a review of several trails in the reservation. Please see the many photos I uploaded that…read moredon't appear below but appear in the photos for this site. I started on the Buckeye Trail at SOM Center Rd and Hawthorne Parkway (the road was blocked there due to a downed tree). I followed the Buckeye trail to the Hatchet Ridge trail where I circled the Henry Church Rock Loop and headed back to my starting place along the Buckeye trail. It was about 4.5 mile loop The Buckeye Trail is some asphalt and some dirt and small rocks. It is easy to follow and well marked. It follows some of the BridleTrail which horses can trek. I saw many runners on this trail. It was mostly shaded and wide enough at points for three people to walk side by side. It was an easy trail. I saw people of all ages on this trail and families. The Hatchet trail and the portion of the Henry Church Rock trail that runs along the river is "somewhat dangerous" according to a gentleman probably in his 60's who stopped to give me directions. The trail is narrow (enough for people to pass each other) and a dirt path with some rocks and roots along the way. All under the shade of the trees. To get down to the river you have to descended several flights of stairs. See my attached pics for elevation rise and fall on the trail. There are several Emergency Location stations along the path so you can share your exact location to EMS in an. I saw lots of people walking along the river shores, wading through the water, swimming with their families, and even jumping from the top of the water fall. It looked like the kids and adults were having a blast in the water and exploring the area. It was a very warm day when I went and the Henry Church Rock area was busy with hikers and kids. The Buckeye trail was quiet. The area is busy with walkers, runners, hikers, families, and bicycles. It's fun and relaxing trail.

The summer camps my kids loved! We love the date nights and the swimming pool indoor. It's a great place for the our entire family. I am so happy that we have found such a special place in our community. I don't play tennis but the courts seem amazing and I want to try a lesson. I remember texting my friend Vlad because I was so excited to use the sauna at the Strongsville Rec. Center. He said that I probably would find Russian men in the sauna which I did, 2 of them (apparently Russians love saunas which is cool...haha). I am writing this review a year later, in Feb. 2025. A day pass cost me about $10, if I can remember correctly. I like that this option exists because I don't have to join as a member to use the gym and sauna. GYM/POOL/SAUNA -- At the upstairs gym, I used the stair master and walking track. I also noticed that they have a weights room downstairs but I didn't use it because I didn't have a lot of time. I then used the sauna and steam room downstairs. I stayed in the sauna for about 10 mins and I stayed in the steam room for about 5 mins. The sauna is very small but manageable. There were 3 men in there when I entered. I appreciate that there is a camera inside incase of any emergencies. The steam room is a bit bigger which felt nice. It feels good to be spaced out between people. TIPS -- I recommend bringing a towel to sit on while you're in the Sauna and Steam room. Bring a water bottle too. Also, bring a padlock and key to lock your bag and clothes in the changing room (locker room). I didn't bring a lock because I didn't realize that I would need one so I carried my wallet with me while I used the gym and sauna. Now that it is winter as I'm writing this review, I want to return to the sauna and steam room. The whole gym and pool/sauna area gets very crowded so I recommend that you arrive early. Out of nowhere, she demanded to see our Lakewood ID, which we didn't have this one time, and turned us away like we were trying to sneak in. There was no large sign visible enough to see this policy -- just a sudden change in attitude from someone who didn't even know us or our family. What made it worse was the way she looked at us: we are a brown family, and the look said it all. We felt singled out, judged, and completely unwelcome in a place we've supported every single day. Even worse? We watched as white families came in right before and after us, and not one of them was asked to show an ID. Not one. Just us. If you have rules, enforce them fairly for everyone -- don't pick and choose who gets questioned based on how they look. This lack of consistency, courtesy, and basic respect ruined what should have been another fun day for our family. We'll be taking our money and our time to a place that treats all paying families with fairness and dignity -- no matter what we look like.

All of my calls were answered and returned quickly and if needed, a tech was sent out to handle the problem. I enlist their services to open and close the pool and they are prompt, work as quickly as possible to minimize added cost and do excellent work. You will not go wrong if they are in your corner to make pool ownership smoother and more enjoyable.
