Not sure what happened to big homie that used to run this place because he was great. Got smog done there for the past 10 years. Now some lil guy with a bigger attitude works there. Can tell he has a chip on his shoulder from first interaction but I gave him benefit of the doubt twice. A bit of an odd experience this time around... I had come to Premier Smog a few years back when I had to do my smog. Got the notice again that I had to do another. I saw Premier was still on groupon so I bought another. Came by on a Saturday morning, about ~10-15min after they opened. No one was there, so I parked my car right in front of the shop ready to pull-in. I look around the shop for a few min but don't see anyone. Another car comes in and parks and we are both waiting to see who shows up. There was a car already parked in the lot, and a dude rolls out of the car and asks if we were looking to do a smog. Wish it was a bit more professional. It goes a bit downhill for me here. I'm obviously first, and I tell him I have a groupon. He then goes to the other guy who is paying cash and has him go in first. Luckily, I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere, otherwise I might have caused a scene haha. After like 15 min, I get to pull my car in. My car passes, then he has issues with payment, and he keeps messing up and trying to charge me more than what I was supposed to pay (which was just the ~$8 certificate). It was just a mess / unorganized and unprofessional. Management has definitely changed since I didn't see the guy that helped me last time, and the set up of the place got rearranged. Go at your own risk. I have an '04 camry, I didn't get any extra charges, but looking at other peoples' reviews, some did. Would rather give a negative rating if there is a choice. - call before I visited, saying I would be using Groupon & they confirmed it is accepted; - be there and was told waiting for a specific person to redeem who never show up - asked the stuff (a person with baseman cap, at least half of the low ratings from google map is from this guy) to follow up & he started his rude, racist tone by asking you either pay full price or leave the store, with cursing words as well, basically, you will not be treated as a customer They shouldn't list them on Groupon if they don't accept and their boss should maybe care more about how customers feel about that specific employee who is giving customers hard time. read more

I have been going to this place for several years now. Looks like it has changed hands and the new folks are awful. They sell Groupons which are valid only for out state vehicles. Wtf! And they won't let me use even the amount that I paid and needed to pay again. The guy was a dick. My wife went in the 1st time and she didn't have the DMV notice. So I went back the next time and he was lecturing that he has explained to me 3 times and in this country I need to read the agreement before signing! And to top it my car failed smog check due to a torn intake valve hose. That is a part inside which likely only the smog check guy was poking around with a rod. Called in and the guy was a little reserved but nice enough. He quoted a price but offered a yelp discount (YAY YELP!). I asked if there was a wait, and he told me to come on in. This is a great location, behind the off brand gas station on the busy corner of Grant and El Camino. You have to drive around the back. Easy to get in, but you can only go right to exit. Anyways, after I arrived, there was a brief wait. When it was my turn, a quick round of paperwork, then self drive into the garage bay. Turn around was very short. I paid and was on my way. Remains to be seen if the dmv actually gets it, but my paperwork looked official enough. Laser print = legit, right? I had an abysmal experience here--they would not accept my groupon and the man (who happened to be absolutely enormous, adding to the intimidation factor) kept repeating that the groupon did not cover STAR certified cars. I said that my car was in no way "star certified," but that I needed a smog check from a center that was star-certified, but no matter. The man hollered "$98 dollars"! Needless to say, I went elsewhere and am now out the cost of my groupon. The large man was most condescending, threatening and unpleasant. Please avoid. If there was a way to give a minus star review, I would do that... I showed up with my car and Groupon payment voucher for a smog check. The attendant was very impolite, untidy, and not interested to move from his chair a bit!! He took my info and started to work on my car and within a couple of minutes he told me my connector to the his cable is broken on my car and he could not work on my car. I mentioned we have done smog check in the past and no issues with my car that I know of. He insisted and when I asked the question, he just stared at me and asked "Do you speak English?!!" I didn't want to deal with him much more at the point, I mentioned to him that there is a Smog Check across the street and I guarantee they will be able to work on my car. What should I do with my Groupon? He said ask Groupon for refund!!! Went across the street, had the car smog done in 15 minutes!!! Unprofessional, lack of proper skills and completely rude!!! My story is similar to most recent reviews. Got the Groupon, drove in. As soon as I mentioned the Groupon the girl there informed me that it is not valid. I asked why, and she didn't really know. She suggested it is not valid for STAR testing, but that didn't work. Eventually she pulled up the bullshit about "only for sedans from out of state". Be assured, they will not accept your Groupon. I informed them that they are crooks and took my business elsewhere. The only recommendation I can make is that you CAN get your money refunded from Groupon. Just start a chat session within 3 days and explain the issue. And of course, avoid this place like fire! read more

I printed a coupon online and call the place to verify they will honor the coupon rate given the make and model of my car. "Just come over" the person on the phone replied. This morning, I went to the smog check station, which is actually located at the back of the gas station. The attendant was not where to be found. A person working on auto glass told me to alert the guy in the van parked outside, who is the attendant. The attendant was nice, but kept throwing things around, like he is having a bad day. I showed him the coupon and he accepted it, even writing an estimate base on it. The testing itself took a really long time, almost 1 hour. After testing, I went to pay and the attendant told me he forgot to charge me an extra $10 because my car is an SUV. I didn't mind paying extra for an SUV, but felt somewhat cheated since he forgot at the beginning of the transaction. read more

I came here around 5pm on 10/22/24 and 10/23/24, to be told by the mechanic they're closed. The website says they're open till 6pm and I even called beforehand to check what time they closed. Very misinformed and poor customer service. Please don't waste your time here. Go to Quiksmog (408-773-1878) which is only a 2 min drive (1240 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale) from there and Quiksmog is open till 7pm for all you 8am-5pm workers like me. Much nicer folks. Like other reviews mentioned. The guy told me that STAR certified need to pay more and it costs $98 dollars with $20 dollars off. I did fall for that as I was in a hurry! Everything was smooth. It was one of those STAR Certified Stations from DMV. It took me less than 10 minutes to finish the test. The same mall has Nijiya, Smart and Final, Walgreen, Starbucks, etc in case you need to run multiple errands in one trip. read more

This is my regular smog place, although it's not really a place you go that often. Each of my cars comes in once every two years, and I've experienced no problem whenever I've come. There's usually a coupon you can use, and then tack on the certificate fee. Everything's pretty standard for a smog test, but the main reason I like this place is the convenient location. It's next to a good number of stores, like Nijiya and Smart & Final. So I just drop my car off for the smog test, and it really doesn't matter if it's 15 or 30 minutes as I simply go buy some food or groceries while the car's being tested. This way I can still be productive while getting the smog taken care of. read more

I paid a little over $36 for a less than 20 minute wait. My Lincoln Navigator passed the CA Smog Test and I was told that the test result was sent to the DMV. Now that is service. Went there last week, an Asian man was working, I guess he couldn't hear me well through my mask? I have a used BMW, which I purchased over 3 years ago. I've never had a problem getting a smog check to pass, including the time when I purchased the car. Recently the registration was up for renewal, and a smog check from a STAR certified business was required (at this time I had no idea what this was). I looked on Yelp and found this establishment. I even had a coupon, but I did not noticed that the coupon was not valid if the smog check had to be performed by a STAR certified business. When I took my car there, the person told me that the coupon wouldn't work, and I had to pay $78 for the smog check. Since the registration renewal date was about a week away, I decided to just get the test done at this establishment, rather than look for another place. The person there connected the cable to the OBD port, and then opened the hood and told me that I had a non-standard air intake, and "it was not going to pass". I thought they meant that the emissions test wouldn't pass, but what they were saying was that it wouldn't pass by virtue of the visual inspection that they did. All the same, they ended up charging me $69.75 for the test that they didn't complete, and made a note that they would do one retest for $38.25. Perhaps this is legal, I don't know. But it is absolutely rapacious, nasty and dishonest. This person's name appears to be Miguel Esquivel-Renteria. Stay away from this business, and run for the hills if you have the misfortune to meet Miguel Esquivel-Renteria. Never go there. read more

My 1999 car was due for a smog check and their Groupon price was $25. To my surprise I was told that since the car is pre-2000, it needs a STAR certification; the price is $90. And indeed ... buried deeply within the very small print at the bottom of the coupon: "... price does not apply for STAR certification ...".
