The food is wholesome but doesn't really rock the tastebuds. My starter of breaded Brie was done well and Hubby's lentil soup was piping hot (a must for soup!). Both were palatable and enjoyable. I opted for lasagne which was served with salad and chips. It almost reminded me of a school lunch in that it was comforting. Hubby's burger was well seasoned and quite tasty! Dessert was homemade profiteroles in chocolate sauce. It was tasty but didn't rock the tastebuds. It's a little out the way from Glasgow as it's just outside of Kilwinning. However there's a good sized car park and the staff are simply lovely. Great value for money in that we both had 3 courses and a few non alcoholic drinks for the grand total of £25. Followed by mains, macaroni & cheese (no not for a child) chicken & wild mushroom ballontine, braised beef featherblade and a rib eye with peppercorn sauce. We were all very happy with our selections. Out waitress was phenomenal, as was the rest of the staff. The restaurant was extremely busy yet they just worked as a team & got the meals out in timely and well coordinated manner. The room in which they hold weddings etc has a twinkly ceiling adding to the atmosphere it has it's own bar and toilets also located within the room. They have a comfortable lounge again with its own bar so plenty of bars to get yourself a drink if it is busy. The toilets are clean and the staff friendly you get a personal service here.

The bathrooms were also quite luxurious and there's a tub as well as shower. They have free breakfast if you book directly with them, but since we booked it through the Capital One portal, we didn't have that. The keys themselves are physical keys (not keycards). The front desk is nice and even though there wasn't a water bottle filling station, they filled them up for us. They were able to hold onto our baggage after we checked out while we explored the area.

New Lanark is a village designed by Robert Owen, an industrial revolutionary who wanted to give his workers a safe place to live and work and to halt the exploitation of children. He ran mills which have now been converted into an interactive museum, a visitor centre and a hotel. We booked the hotel for our wedding reception (we had the meal in the function room in the hotel then moved over to the Institute in the Vistor Centre for the ceilidh as there was more room). Had a few worries because there is a noise limiter in the hotel function room and there was the possibilty that one may be installed in the Institute room and our band wouldnt play if there was one , but that didnt come to anything. They also cocked up some of the room bookings for our guests who were staying, but all of the staff were extremely apologetic and gave us room upgrades and smoothed everything out. On they day though, they were excellent. I can totally recommend Lee, who made the day run like clockwork and also Helen at the Institute for being so accommodating and for putting on a fab spread for our evening guests! The food was very good, much better than I expected from a hotel wedding with 120 odd guests having a sit down meal (it should have been good given the price, but I often think that wedding food in that kind of venue can be mediocre at best!) The wedding packages as always were quite expenisve so we just paid per head for the meal. We transported some of our flowers from the church windows to use as centrepieces for the tables, we had our own piper, we didnt bother with different coloured linen, we brought our own wine and paid corkage (bought from the Wine Society), so we managed to save a bit on the package which had stuff in it we didnt need or want. I must say though that they were really flexible with substituing and negociating the packages, so if you had your own piper you could swap to include canapes or something of similar "value". We just had too many things ourselved to warrent the package and to warrent the substitutions. Since being an adult I have been back a few times and the building still holds very good memories. The hotel is an old mill and in the restaurant they have a glass floor and as you eat from the great menu you can watch the wheel turn the water beneath you, this is not something you get in many restaurants, and it's a nice change. The building itself is very old and I love places like this. They offer some cook traditional British food on the menu. The restaurant is on the river bank and you could be mistaken for believing you are no longer in Mother well, if you are looking for a break this is the place to visit.

Clearly the chef hadn't tasted this before it came out to paying customers! The main course was served on cold plates - turkey dinner consisting of one small sausage and a taste of stuffing on a plate with a couple of slices of turkey covered in gravy. This was the setting for my sisters 50th birthday meal, and what a great setting it was…read more We arrived a little early to deck out the table and area with a couple of balloons and banner, the staff couldn't have been more helpful allowing us to sort it all out before the guest of honour arrived. This done we waited on the rest of the party in the residents lounge, where there were plenty of comfy seats and tables in the conservatory with a well stocked bar (a plethora of whiskeys on offer as befits a bar not far from the ferry terminal over to Islay and Jura) just off it with craft beers etc. On the arrival of the rest of the party while we sorted out drinks in the lounge the waitress dished out menus and after a suitable time perusing, took the order for the meal, allowing us a little time to catch up before informing us that the starters were ready and allowing us to decant to the table in the other end of the conservatory. Bright and spacious surroundings in the restaurant and comfortable seating make this a pleasant place to be. The food was superb starters consisted of scallops which were seared to perfection on black pudding, pulled pork on a black pudding with a poached egg on top and all cooked perfectly. Mains were Fish and chips with a healthy bit of fish and chunky cut chips, rump frites again a perfectly seared and not insubstantial lump of rump and skinny fries, mac and cheese with the option of spicy sausage through it, creamy and delicious, rib eye steak again juicy, beautifully prepared and with sides of mushrooms and vine tomatoes. Deserts were rather good as well, all in all a fantastic unrushed night and great company in clean, comfortable surroundings.
