It was a spectacular sight to see, as she shows of her bloom, if only for a few days. The conservatory has some amazing flowers that changes every time I visit. The lily pond is my favorite area to visit. With the colorful lilies and reflections of the plants surrounding it, it truly is a nice tranquil area to ponder. Staff are always welcoming and how lucky are residents who get to enjoy this beautiful conservatory for free just by showing your ID. There's also the tranquil Aids memorial nearby, worth visiting.

And, in certain areas, it gets pretty warm because I mean... it is a greenhouse... so make sure you can withstand the heat. There were a lot of people hanging outside on the grass playing with their dogs or having a nice picnic. And the interior was not the only thing that was beautiful, the outside area was also a sight to see. An amazing sculpture and flowers blooming. And as a high school student in San Francisco, I just showed them my school ID and got in for free! :D It's such a fun experience and it's definitely a lifelong experience for me. I first met Humberto when I opened a Yelp project ticket in January. He was not only quick to respond, (he came over within an hour, on a Sunday), he also was transparent in his pricing and had great suggestions. I could tell he knew a lot about gardening. Humberto and Alejandro came in January for the first visit, and as was right for the season, they pruned all of the bushes, weeded the mulch and stone areas, and mowed the lawn. I liked them so much that first visit we made a plan for the next visit in the spring, which happened today! Humberto brought just the stone I wanted (he knew it by name when he saw it the first time), to refresh the old stone and also brought the mulch that we had talked about- both in the perfect quantity. Today they also mowed and fertilized the grass (the right time of year for that now), cleaned up all of my pots, put new plants in huge heavy ceramic pots, replanted some outlier succulents from the stone area, and did a thoughtful cleanup all around. He advised me about "sunny plants" and "shady plants" too, which was very useful. The yard is beaming with Springtime! Humberto is busy for a good reason, so plan for that, but a shiny well thought out garden is a joy.

My elderly mother needed occasional support, so that is something to keep in mind. There are plenty of benches throughout the garden, perfect for resting or simply enjoying the scenery. The pagoda, koi ponds, and traditional buildings make for beautiful photos, and it's a peaceful place to walk. That said, I couldn't shake the feeling that it just wasn't worth the price... Admission was $15, and I was completely through the garden in about 30 minutes without rushing. Later, I walked across the street to the San Francisco Botanical Garden, which also cost $15, and spent hours exploring. The size, variety, and overall experience weren't even comparable. I also stopped at the tea house. There was a line just to order, and while the matcha and snacks were good, they weren't exceptional. Paying over $10 for a cup of matcha felt steep, and the food didn't justify the wait or the price. I tried the matcha, dorayaki, dango, onigiri, and mochi. Everything was enjoyable, but nothing memorable enough that I'd come back for it. If you're trying to decide how to spend your time in Golden Gate Park, I'd skip the Japanese Tea Garden entirely. Instead, visit the Botanical Garden and then find one of San Francisco's many excellent Japanese cafés or bakeries for matcha and snacks. You'll get a much better experience for about the same amount of money. The Japanese Tea Garden is pretty, but for me it felt more like a quick photo stop than a destination. At $15, I expected a lot more.

We have been able to maintain the irrigation and keep up with the weeding ourselves, because it was such a low-maintenance design. We're just moved out of the house to have some structural work done, and we are missing the garden so much, and it made me reflect on how grateful we are to John and his crew for their amazing work. They put out lots of chairs for anyone who wants to be entertained. Wonderful place to gather on a sunny day for any event. There's also a playground with play structures for families needing entertainment for kids and a merry-go-round nearby. The fountain with the M.L. King Memorial is a great piece of educational fun to walk under. On a hot day, the mist from the fountain is welcome. The Metreon next to the Gardens also is convenient for food or entertainment for hours and hours if you're looking to kill time! I've come here many times before, but never thought to write a review.
