Oh look surprise, the put you on HOLD for a long time and disconnect. Nice. Calling back, Rachel "helping" me this time. I tell her of the dishonesty told to me yesterday and what is the additional $13 charge? Her answer is that I'm on auto pay. $4 + $13= s17 a month?! For an online newspaper. I am on HOLD again. Talking to Tom now, he seems to see the problem. I am on HOLD again. He cannot credit the additional $13.29 but he will give it to the Financial department. The sadly passed away a few meeks into this 6 month auto renew and we called to cancel and get a prorated refund of the $700+ gouge for 6 months and they said "oh, there's nothing we can do". Ok....the one star is how I feel today after being treated like poop and being lied to (should be zero - why isn't that still not an option?) I have had a subscription for about 5 years. Every 6 months or so I get a notice they're going to up my rates, so I call to cancel and then they tell me they'll give me a somewhat lower rate - somewhere between my previous rate and an inappropriately expensive rate. I think I'm doing my part to support underpaid writers, so I stick around.... This week, I feel like other reviewers - I've been scammed and treated like scum - nice way to treat a subscriber. I called about a week before a $15 increase and the woman I spoke to assured me I would get my previous rate if I didn't cancel. Well...low and behold... 1 week before I should have been charged, I was charged for the increased rate - so I called. I'm fairly certain I got the same scam artist - she's good. She must earn them back what those of us who want to cancel cost them. She kept me on hold long enough to be past hours so there were no supervisors. She also told me I could have an extension on my subscription (I called B.S.) - which surprised her. I said give me my money back and cancel. She said she can't give me money back on an unused subscription - Blatant lie! No, you'll give me my money back because I didn't give you permission for this. My husband loves this paper, and has subscribed for 45 years. . . . but it is costly. Don't be misled by their ads for $100 for 26 weeks. He is billed $800 for 26 weeks. . . which is, of course, $1600 annually. I was shocked at the price, so he called, and they gave him a discount of $100, so now he'll only pay either $1400 or $1500 annually. My family has been getting this paper for 70+ years but today I canceled my subscription do to them overcharging my visa card on my AutoPay Account. Back in August 2022 they phone solicited me to sign up for AutoPay and made financial promises that have turned out to be nothing but lies and fabrications. They are now telling me they can't authorize a refund because I'm 3 days past their 7 day window for refunds. What Scam Artists these guys are on the phone so you better proceed with caution when they solicit you for their autopay program. I now have to wait 10 days while their Financial Team in Ohio makes a decision on whether or not I'm gonna get a refund of $207 for the next 6 months of my Subscription THAT I HAVE ALREADY TERMINATED THIS AFTERNOON! AWFUL IN SO MANY WAYS I've been with the PT for over 15 years, back when they reported objective and fair news, accurately and without bias. The past few years however I've noticed a steady decline. First was the size of the paper - gradually eliminating the feature (food, lifestyles, etc) sub magazines while steadily increasing the rates. When they ran out of the extras I liked so much, a bigger price increase came. Add to that the fact that we always had missed deliveries mostly Sundays, and I get the weekend only issues! I'll call customer svc (always very nice and polite, so 1 star for them), and when they ask if I wanted another paper sent out I always say yes, but it very seldom comes - and no credit back. As far as billing, I'm lucky because I don't have Insta-pay. They continued billing me long after I cancelled but I just returned the invoice with the word "cancelled" across. Re the publication, I guess I can't blame Southern Calif News Group for joining the same club as the NY Times, WSJ and many other super left publications. Every time Biden hiccups its front page news and for Jill Biden, its front page for 2 days - on the same visit (she was wearing the same dress for both days). AP couldn't write a fair article if they tried (and they don't bother anymore). Whatever happened to just reporting news objectively and letting the public form their own opinions? Still, I was stubborn for years and hung in there because I just like eyeballing the paper, putting it down and coming back to it quickly and not dealing with pop-up ads online. I'll really miss the Opinion section, though, since it was the only way to learn about the shading dealings going on in Sacramento and around the country. The writers have always done their research and back up what they say, and even if I don't agree with them all the time, I see their point of views. Another reviewer mentioned the Opinions were always "so angry" and "mean" but that's not how I view them at all. It would be nice to live in a bubble and believe everything the big news venues say without question, but its always been hard for me. BTW, the straw that finally broke the camel's back and ended my subscription was the cancellation of Dilbert. I spent my entire career working for independent, mid size companies and really related to how absurd office politics can be. A show like "The Office" wouldn't survive today, unfortunately. The ability to see the extreme behavior and in the occasional weirdness of people and be confident enough to realize it can't hurt you instead of picking apart everything and allowing yourself to be hurt. To be clear, I don't support what Scott Adams tweeted AT ALL but I respect his right to say it, just like I don't agree with what countless of others who tweeted equally offensive opinions of all sides. I just don't read them. But the creator's personal opinions never entered into the comic strip and it was just plain funny. I guess by cancelling the PT I'm joining the destructive nature of the "cancel culture" but, oddly, it wasn't so hard after all. Maybe Free Speech is overrated? read more

I got a subscription and tried to cancel before I would get charged again but couldn't access my account so I had to waste an hour of my time on customer service for them to claim they had cancelled it until a week later in which I got charged again. This newspaper company has been charging my 87 year old grandmother over $1400 for a year subscription while my other grandmother is paying $600 for the year despite them both having this newspaper plan for the same amount of time. They are extorting old people out of their money and taking advantage of the elderly. This is pure abuse and is unacceptable. If I could give this paper a zero stars I would. Someone who signs up people for this paper in front of the supermarket got a hold of one of my checks to get their commission and fraudulently signed me up for this paper 6 years ago. Please check your account for "MNG metro". You too could be frauded. They make sure to charge you different amounts every month so it looks like a charge at a store(example$21.05 or $16.54). They purposely don't identify their name (to keep you from catching them) in your account and there is no available telephone number for you to cancel. Even when yo google them (MNG metro I.d.) does not come up Long Beach press telegram. They also attached a fraudulent email address so that I don't get emails notifying me of the paper. Then when I called to dispute it, "Supervisor Sam" says okay I'll do you a favor, I'll take $100 off so you owe us $58 for last month. The first fraud (they charge $58 for a newspaper). After living in Long Beach for 22 years, I thought it would be nice to get more local news than the Grunion. The paper is quirky, writing is sometimes hilarious and the content is what I expected - just a home-town paper. But..... the editorial section of this paper is a bastion of right wing, hard core liberal bashing and is not at all indicative of the broad and diverse culture that makes Long Beach such a great place to live. News is supposed to provide a balanced view. If print cant be broad based and avoid idealistic rants and personal attacks, then it isn't worth the paper it's written on. read more

Fish Wrap. That's how I used to describe the mess of a newspaper. For a quarter, this was not bad of a bargain for something of a quick reading while you are sipping your coffee in the morning for 10-15 minutes. Now if you were looking for world news or entertainment section. Good luck. They do a much better job with their local section of the LB, Lakewood, Seal Beach, and San Pedro area. Sport sections is a major letdown. I get more info about local high football team than I do with either Long Beach State sports or Pro sports. Somehow I don't really cared how Millikan High is doing with their volleyball team. Where's the Raiders section? Heck, I'll even settle for more Chargers coverage than the Jackrabbits from Poly High. Their entertainment section is a joke sometimes. They had Roger Ebert (from CHICAGO Sun Times) reviewing movies. In fact, most of the stuffs were pulled from syndicated columnists. It's really bare at this section. World coverage is pulled from AP news service. That I don't mind because at least they are putting in the news as it is being recapped from yesterday. My beef from earlier years was that this paper comes with the cable subscriptions when I was living with my parents. Sunday is the worse because it usually filled with advertisement galore and dirty ink smudged all over my palm. Then out of nowhere something happened... we were charged for newspaper subscription. Like anybody who felt jiffed, I was on the phone complaining to both our cable company and newspaper about this erroneous mistake. Apparently the cable company gave the wrong info about the subscription when my stupid little sister changed the cable plans. I should told my family to disown her, but I refocus my energy in getting the newspaper to straighten out the mess. After it was all said and done, everything was AOK, but I made sure that the newspaper does not touch any front steps in the morning...even if it was free. ----------------------------------------- Last week I had an early breakfast at a diner and decides to get a newspaper while I ate. USA Today, LA Times, and Orange County Register was sold out in the coin-operated newspaper stand. Only the Press-Telegram. Gave it one more shot. I'm 1 day away from cancelling my subscription. I have a 90 year old mother who looks forward to reading this paper every day, and without fail, after numerous phone calls, the carrier throws it at the base of the gutter or in to a puddle. They do not wrap the paper in good plastic, so at least 2 to 3 times a week it's sopping wet. They said they'd take care of it twice, but no new paper, no extra plastic wrap, still throws at the base of the gutter, where all the beach moisture collects and runs out every night. I have been satisfied with the ease of searching through the articles and sections. I have never received a physical paper. Even though I paid for a monthly recurring subscription. Today I reached Carla on the phone, she was exceptional in listening and coming up with a solución. She was thorough and patient as she listened to my issues. As of recent the Press Telegram, Daily Breeze and the OC Register want to charge online readers to view their online newspapers. This is new and it indeed sucks as it was once free. They can blur out pages to prevent non paying readers from viewing the news story. It will be a cold day in you know where before I pay one cent for information easily found elsewhere for free. They can keep their news and note they will never see one cent from me for reading the news. I've been a subscriber to the Long Beach Press Telegram for over ten years. Overall it is a ok newspaper...when/if I get it. I like to read the crime stats and information about things that you can't catch on the ass cream local news. For the most part, my subscription/service was consistent and excellent when I lived in Bixby. I moved to central Long Beach for space and have since acquired a studio. But the Press Telegram service changed when I moved. I have get up to NO fucking paper in the morning sometimes. How can I train a dog to get a godammed paper if they don't fucking deliver it!!!?? I don't want to call every time I walk down a flight of stairs with the dog to retrieve a paper, only for the dog to look at me like..."What?" Fuck! Did someone steal it? Maybe. I'm sometimes awake when they actually DO deliver it like they should. At around 5:30 AM there is a loud thud as it hits my door, then a car speeding off . Sometimes I've found the paper around the corner of the building. Some street person could walk by and easily pick it up. . Get out the fucking car and put my paper near my door like you did when I lived in Bixby!!! Am I missing something? Last I checked this was a LOCAL newspaper. I can't speak for most who have grown up in Long Beach, but personally, I think the Press Telegram has excellent coverage of our little corner of LA County. I really appreciate their enthusiasm for high school sports and commend their willingness to feature teams that aren't normally in the spotlight. A front page spread on the Wilson girls volleyball team can be refreshing, when most local papers play it safe, limiting their sport's front-page coverage of TO's latest spring practice tantrum. If you grew up playing or cheering for the Moore League, and want the latest on LOCAL development, this is the best paper for your loose change. If you want the latest coverage of The Raiders... look no further than the LA-Times obituaries. read more

Don't do business with this company! Very unprofessional and rude. A student came to my mothers senior community door and my mom signed up for the subscription (Press Telegram) for $10.84 a month. Pretty reasonable. (not really you can get the news online- she just felt bad for the kid). Well they forgot to mention, they never deliver the actual paper! We know all 8 neighbors in the quiet community, with years of tenancy! 3 out of the 8 signed up and didn't see a newspaper for weeks! We all called for an explanation? The young lady who answered (562) 499-1222 @ 11:00 a.m. On 7/21/16, stated ;"well if it's gated the Person who delivers will throw in the front". I advised it wasn't gated, and they promised to come to the door. then she exclaimed "well they will just throw it by the front not necessarily your apartment, so maybe others take it". I continued, there are 3 of us that signed up and we all haven't received the newspaper. We all asked one another and we believe it's fraud! Then she continued, "well you'll have to wait 2-3 weeks so we can see who delivers, Cuz they will just throw it in front or by gate". At this point I just felt sorry for her and the HORRIBLE business she was involved in. At $10 a month, For 2 months, ugh please keep it! I explained how they conduct horrible business!! I signed up for a subscription at the OC swap meet to get my husband a free hat, but I don't read the paper so I had it sent to my parents, I find out 6 months later they have never received one!!! But I sure as hell have been charged every month! I called and they said they can only refund this month because I didn't call about the other months, so I took what I could get and canceled. Where to begin? Geez. Lets go back to the day i signed up for the paper. Did the paperwork, paid them and didn't get the paper until i called to see where my paper was. About 2 months after paying for it, i started receiving it. Never read it, coupons sucked but i kept it for the year but was looking forward to subscription ending. January 10th i look at my checking account and $26 bucks has been withdrawn for the press telegram, WHAT? I keep all my documents for subscriptions and things of the sort...i pull it out and no where on there is anything authorizing them to automatically deduct from my account. So begins my ordeal.... 1. Took me a while to just find a number to call where i wasn't being given a voice mail. 2. Once i found a number took me about 20 mins before i actually got a person. 3. Spoke to "lynette" who informed me since i get the sunday edition she can't put in my refund until Monday. 4. Monday (jan 14th, 2013) arrives and i call to check. Yes it has been processed and it can take 7-10 days for the refund to show up in my account. 5. Check on jan 28th and 14days later no refund. So i call and speak to 'Milan' who informs me it's pending but he will email the supervisor. I request to get a call back from the supervisor. He informed me it will take 24-48 hours. 6. Check my account on the 29th. No refund. So i call and speak to 'Jose' who informs me that nothing was done on the 14th but 'milan' put it thru and it should be about 48 hours. 7. Jan 31st check my account...surprise surprise, no refund. I call and speak with 'Supervisor Judy'. She informs me that it's pending and i should receive my refund tomorrow or at the latest Monday. So 21 days from my first phone call and still no refund. I am sorely disappointed in this business. This company has stolen my money and i want it back. Tomorrow my calls will continue as well as my upcoming emails to the paper. As of 2/4/2013 i finally got my refund. It only took 25 days and many many phone calls. read more

Be warned. I renewed my subscription online and was billed TWICE. I called and requested them to correct the error and REFUND to my bank account the excess money that was deducted from my account. That was almost 1 month ago. I have talked to 4 different people so far and they ALL said it would be corrected and they would refund the excess amount of money that was deducted. I am STILL WAITING for that refund. Their customer service is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE...Reading all the horrible yelp comments, it seems that I am not the only one that this has been done to. I subscribe to Sunday paper only. For 3 of the past 6 weeks, there has been a delivery problem. No paper, wrong paper (Daily Breeze) and today, 2 sections missing. I called, again, to request a replacement. This time I waited 23 minutes to talk to a human. And again, I have not received a replacement. Unbelievably, the carrier included a self addressed Christmas card in last week's rare complete delivery. Do they want my business? I don't think so. This is it - I'm done. read more

I can't recall actually reading their paper, but their local delivery person just came to my door at 8:50 in the evening and rang the door bell 3 times. I was upstairs getting ready for bed so before I could get down stairs he rang 3 more times. By the time I got to the door he was next door ringing their door bell multiple times. The only reason I answered is I thought it was one of the neighbors in trouble or something. I told the moron NO and shut the door. Why would anybody selling anything come to someones door at almost 9:00 PM? They should also hire people that can read, it is a news paper after all.
