I was fine with that...support small business; however after my teenager daughter decided to change her mind and opt not to have a party here that is where the trouble began. At first Maura tells me its no problem, lets just move the money to August for my husband's birthday and they would retain 25%. All along I have nothing in writing stating what their policies are nor do I have a SIGNED CONTRACT obligating me to do anything. Sad what you get when you try to support "your people''. Five minutes later, she calls me back to say ''oh we cannot refund your credit card"....say what? You had no problem charging it. I told her I guess it boiled down to her not wanting to eat that fee. In any event, after she MAILS me a handwritten "business" check I proceeded to take it to HYPERION BANK (should be more aptly named HOOD BANK" they refused to cash the check because I was not an account holder. I told the branch manager it was a great way to NOT earn customers. Besides how many branches could they actually have. Not to worry, HOOD BANK will get a review too--my yelpers beware. So after my conversation with Maura today where she tries to snicker and make side marks I told her she needed to check her tone. She's telling me she's not making special exceptions for me, and she went out of her way just to do that. That her accountant gets confused when dates change-- makes you wonder who they have working their in the first place. Really it was more of an inconvenience than anything. I should have gone with my first instinct and found something else--live and learn. It seems like organizational issues are at play...someones feeding her bullshit in the back ground and she's trying to spit that shit up on me. Not hap'n cap'n! But, How do you not know what your banks terms are? She said ''NO BANK CASHES CHECKS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT CUSTOMERS'' Sounds like she needs a lesson in banking. For the record Maura since I could not get two words in edge wise, any bank that a check is drawn on will cash it-except for the hood bank you all deal with. Granted they make take a small fee but that is fine but for you to make up these "facts" as you go along are preposterous! So after back and forth of arguing with her about how she's doing me some type of favor, she folded and is putting the other half of my 1k down payment in the mail. Now I have two bullshit checks! Yay! Bottom line: DONT SIGN SHIT! Make sure they get it right and all the details are worked out before you book anything here, better yet find another spot.

At the 3-month mark we were handed off to Hannah who was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! If you have the honor of working with her, consider yourself so lucky. I attended a wedding at the Down Town Club last week for a good friend of mine and I found the…read moreevent space to be very nice. The Down Town Club is located inside a very large building in Old City and takes up at least one floor. Once you're out of the elevator you are greeted by a giant glass table and a centerpiece. For the wedding, this table was used to hold the place cards, which informed you of the the table you would be seating at. Behind that table is a large hall with a few tables, a bar and some counters, which can be used to plate food and serve horderves. I suppose it could also be used as a simple waiting area. There is also a piano located i that area, which can be used to play some live music. The horderves, which were served were top notch. Some of my favorites included the lamb chops, lobster, shrimp and ravioli. I also loved how they had a full sushi bar along with some other traditional Japanese options including ahi tuna. The dinner and dessert was great as well. The dressing on the salad was very tasty and the filet minion was perfectly done. The dessert options here were out of the world. Mini-cupcakes, cannolis, funnel cake and more were all provided and they were all very delicious. The view of Independence Hall is absolutely spectacular as well. The Ball Room wasn't giant, but it easily held over 200 people without as if the room was, too crowded. The ball room was also quickly transformed from hosting the wedding ceremony towards become a place to hold a fun party. While I didn't use it, valet parking was available, which was a nice touch. Altogether, the Down Town Club is a very nice space to hold a variety of events including weddings!
