It's a slightly funky place; Old school, a bit... not tatty exactly, but dated at least, in some places. Our room was large and had beautiful French windows opening onto a tiny balconette. The bathroom was very contemporary. It was simply, but nicely done, and immaculate. We changed and went down for our dinner reservation right away since we had arrived late. This is a teaching facility for the hospitality industry, and the staff in all areas of the business are in some stage of their training. There is teaching staff supervising and guiding throughout the meal. We were seated in the front room of the restaurant near the windows facing the grounds. If we had arrived earlier we could have had drinks at the beautifully paneled bar behind the dining room. We opted for the Menu Degustation of seven courses. They figured out that Himself has only limited French; it's been almost 40 years since he lived in France and rusty doesn't even begin to describe it... They made a huge effort to provide English descriptions of the courses, and we could tell there was a fair bit of googling going on behind the scenes. Clearly they are mostly frequented by locals, not tourists. We had a really enjoyable meal, everything was good and some things were elevated in to really delicious. The plating was simple and attractive, typical flourishes and dots of sauce and puree and foam. The service was attentive and, with one exception, pretty polished. One unfortunate young lady was just a bit of a disaster. Her hair was scraggly, her uniform rumpled, her scarf hanging and dragging near plates and looked as if it sometimes had hit. Every time she opened the silverware drawer near us there was a huge clatter and then again when she closed it with an overabundance of enthusiasm. She dropped things and seemed unable to keep her hands away from her face. We guessed she was very new to the program perhaps! The wine list was modest, but sufficient, and the teacher on duty stepped in and assisted with the wine. The young man who was our main server was lacking knowledge of the wines from personal experience. Because this is not, as I had assumed, a college. It is a high school. And these chefs, concierges, and waiters and all were high school students. The level that they perform at is very impressive. In the morning we requested our breakfast in the room. It was a bit peculiar, and not in keeping with the dinner we had the night before. The small boxes of cold cereal, American style (Frosted Flakes and Coco Pebbles maybe?) next to the lovely fresh little baguettes and viennoiserie cracked us up. There were little jam and honey jars, and dried fruit and yoghurt. The coffee and cocoa were excellent and it was very generous tray, if a little strange. We were dubious when it arrived but pretty happy by the time we finished. The rates are so below market rate it seemed to us to be a very nice detour on the way to Lyon. The town was pretty, with an interesting old quarter, and we spent the better part of the next day hiking all over the Bastille, which has one of the most insane looking parkours I have ever seen! Just got back from staying here and while the flats are generally quite good, they could do with…read moresome improvements. Firstly, there was some sort of snafu with booking. Somehow, we went from 8 apartments of one double room and two twin rooms to two doubles and 1 twin room... After much hilarity it quickly became apparent that people would have to start sharing beds... but there were sofa beds which meat that any potential issues could be avoided. We arrived on the Eurostar Ski Train, which meant that we actually got into Les Menuires at about 6:30 in the morning, and unfortunately before reception even opened! Luckily there was a place nearby that had a big lounge that we invaded (and subsequently got kicked out of a while later, although we can't complain as we weren't staying there). Having changed and gotten ready for some snow, we moved up to the chalets en mass and found they didn't really have a luggage room, so all of our luggage (70 odd peoples' worth) had to be stacked in their reception, not ideal but at least we had a place to put it. The rest of the week proceeded fairly well, breakfast being ordered at reception the night before (reception kept odd hours, being open in the morning for a few hours and again in the afternoon/evening before closing at 7pm), and extra firewood could be bought from there. The flats are generally well put together, but the twin rooms are a quite small, we could only get one person's luggage in ours, with the other making use of the chest of drawers and leaving his suitcase in the hallway. One of the smaller flats didn't even have a door to their twin room, only having a curtain instead. I'd go so far as to say they shouldn't call it a bedroom if it doesn't have a door! After the lack of bag storage, at the end of the trip, we managed to arrange late checkout for one of the smaller apartments and thankfully were able to have showers and change into normal clothes for our return trip. Enough kitchen equipment is provided to make your stay easy, it's a short walk to the local Sherpa grocery store which is very well equiped. There's a ski rental place opposite and another by the Sherpa store, and the place is ski in/out with good access to the slopes. There is a restaurant/bar close by called La Ferme, and a good pizzeria called L'Igloo next to it, but apart from that, not a lot of nightlife, although it's just a bus ride away. No spa at this hotel, so if you're hoping for a sauna at the end of the day, you're out of luck. Would I stay here again? Yes, knowing what I know now. I'd plan better and choose the apartment carefully, but I'd return.

The bar is reasonably priced and fun. The teachers are nice and can really help you improve your skiing/boarding over the week. You do have the risk of getting an upper bunk - and its not super easy to climb up. Also the quality of the food is dubious on most occasions - with a few pleasant surprises mixed in. This is not the fault of the cooking staff and more a question of the quality of the ingredients. I have gone two years and maybe I'll do a third one... All I can say is: Folie Douce!

The waiting staff were rushing around, going back and forth in front of the guests and literally achieving nothing, apart from creating a stressful rather than relaxing atmosphere, also the beef bourguignon, although very tasty had a significant amount of hard fat on it, making a significant portion uneatable. Finally the first night I had to open the balcony window as the room was just too hot with no way of reducing the temperature - the next morning I overheard someone asking the front desk about it and the follo9wing days it was fine.

It could not have been a better choice in which to celebrate and recuperate. The staff were without fail helpful and welcoming - a stark contrast to some we had met on previous evenings in our journey. Dinner was a delight. this is a five star hotel. although some times you are not sure, because some of the prints are…read morewith 4, some are with 5 stars. i guess the hotel is not sure itself. the prices are five star. tje rooms and location is really good, the view from the deluxe rooms nice. the breakfast offers everything you need despite some complaints of other customers. julien, our personal help did a really good job. generally, the staff is very young and accordingly inexperienced, which is not ok for a five star hotel. they try, but often dont succeed. the reception staff didnt get our name right fir three days. they react to questions as uf it was a threat to them and they would struggle to find the answer anyway. however, they solve the issues, but are just inexperienced. the waiters try, but make many small mistakes that you wont notice unless you have give star expectations: example; dinner served to quickly, before wine is opened and aperitif is consumed, clear your plates too early, dont read your wishes, dont have bill prepared, ask even though you are still studying the menu. wellness area is nice but misses the details like quite rooms, atmosphere. all in all a good hotel that tries but doesnt quite succeed and still asks the price. three stars.

The mountain views are spectacular, and, when we were there in late June, there was plenty of space. There is very little traffiic noise. The staff are friendly. The facilities are quite adequate, maybe could be said to be in need of a little up dating.
