During the reception at the party, one of the women ate the meal before my son and I ate! All of the other vendors waited, like they're supposed to do. I don't mean to sound snobby, but I hadn't even eaten yet and there she is, loading up her plate. When I said something to her about it, she became defensive and snotty about it. They actually followed around one of the little girls who was guest at the party and hogged the photo opportunities. When I asked these women why there were almost as many photos of that kid as my son, they became very defensive. It was very CREEPY at the amount of photos of the young girl. There are so many other photographers out there. I regret ever hiring them. Save yourself your energy, time and money and go somewhere else!

I thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. This is hosted by an artistic couple - Natalie and Alain Briot. They were also joined by the illustrious Jeff Schewe. Natalie is an artist in her own right and organized all the logistics and wrote every introductory email concisely with all info needed. She had every document ready to sign upon arrival and workshop packets ready to go immediately containing our syllabus, maps, name tags, etc. Not only is she a logistical queen, she can comment appropriately and with precision about how to make an artistic composition. She has some really beautiful work. Alain was also a pleasure to learn from. I found his french persona and acerbic wit to be refreshing and dynamic. He makes his photography with a true fine artistic eye using colors in post processing in a magical and unique way. He is a massively, successful photographic artist, and it was an honor to learn from him. The third instructor for our fine art photography printing workshop was none other than Jeff Schewe! Jeff is already so accomplished and he shared his expertise with us in a fun and irreverent manner. He is great! He also has a keen sense of detail and an eye for excellence. We learned our fine-art printing from him, and honestly- I wish there was more to the workshop focused on this section. The second part of our workshop was in the field working and traveling together. We went to places I had never been before and again our logistics and training in the field were spectacular. I would definitely recommend joining this group!

I just wanted to take a moment and express my great pleasure and satisfaction in taking several…read moreworkshops from Alain and Natalie Briot. Alain really pushes you to aim for artistic expression. My favorite quote from him, in fact, is "If it is not necessary to be in the picture, it is necessary to NOT be in the picture." I hear his voice (in his French accent) in my head as I'm framing up landscape shots to this day. He does expect your to know most of the controls of your camera. it is best to have a concept of exposure The one star reviews here are surprising, and absolutely do not represent my experiences with the Briots. The criticisms that I have seen levelled are not born out by my experience with Alain. He was endlessly encouraging and willing to teach. He was scrupulous, in our Paige photography trip I took 4 - 5 years ago, in terms of exactly how to set the color temperature on your camera so that when you exposed for the slot canyon, you got a rich color cast with some purple hues. He said it; I did it: it worked. Some of the best landscape images I have captured in my entire life have been during the workshops led by Alain and Natalie. Shari brought out their personalities, and the end result never looked "posed" or fake. She is sweet, patient and encouraging. Even my 15-year old son, who is not comfortable in front of a camera, began to relax and have fun with the process. Shari's prices are extremely reasonable, especially after taking into account the time she spends in "post-production" to adjust lighting, flaws, etc. I have used more established photographers in the past, but none of them had the innate "eye" and enthusiasm that Shari displayed. The next time I need portraits of my family, Shari will be the first photographer I call!

The photographers were not the ones she was told who would do the shoot. They seemed very much in a hurry to leave and not very professional. I personally had to adjust clothing on several of the wedding party when they were about to take a picture. Honestly many of my phone photos were better. Not sure if this was a just a fluke but I don't think so because when she asked for a partial refund they said no and wouldn't even talk about it. From the start I had said I wanted scenic Mountain View family portraits. We had family come in from three states, 13 people total. To get everyone together was special, so we wanted photos. The initial location Travis suggested was too far for some on my family. He then suggested another location and said it would be a great place for a session. Why wouldn't I think it had scenic Mountain View's after I stressed how much I wanted that. We got there and Travis searched for 15 minutes for a place to take photos. Why wasn't he prepared? Why did he suggest this place? Then the photos were chaos. He didn't suggest poses (like he said he would) or help gather the kids (again, like he said he would) and we didn't capture the sunset (like he said he would) because of the terrible location. Then I get the photos. They don't look great. We took photos on a tee box (golf) and there were divots everywhere. Why didn't he edit those out? He said he would send edited photos. So when I asked him to edit them, he made me feel guilty. Like it was my fault. But he was suppose to send me EDITED photos. Then , this is the ridiculous part... the photos were only on the website for 20ish days to choose before he charged you for keeping them on there for longer. WHAT?! That was never discussed and I'm still laughing how ridiculous that is. I just paid a hefty fee for photos and you want to nickel and dime me... absolutely not. Lastly, I asked him if he can edit a small red mark over one of my family members faces (5 photos) and he wanted to charge me $7 per photo. He messed up the location, sent me unprepared photos and created stress during the session, and he couldn't have said - no problem, let me do this for you to try and make things better. Nope- very money hungry. If you want your photographer to show up in sweats, unprepared, don't suggest poses and want to take a lot of your money. He's your guy.

Choosing a photographer is a long and difficult process. I have been researching and reviewing…read morewebsites for quite some time trying to find just the right person to capture my children. Although it took quite some time, it was worth it. I used Iris Nelson Portraits to photograph my children. Not only did I do them, but I also included myself and my mother in the photography session. It turned out beautifully. One of the items I was concerned about was whether my children's real personality would come out in the photograph. The one thing I really liked about Iris was she only shoots on location. We were not stifled with being in a studio. As a result, she truly captured my childrens' personalities and little quirks. My children are 2 and 6 and I know some day they may no longer make the expressions they make today. I now have those moments permanently captured in both my heart and on film. Also, she really captured some very special moments with my mother and the two children. I can't even truly put into words how spectacular this session was. In fact, after the results of this session; I hired Iris again to do a photography session with my in-laws. Once again, I was blown away with the results. She was able to capture some very special moments again with my husband's family and we were a much larger group this time. If you are looking for an honest and truly gifted photographer, I highly recommend Iris. She will not disappoint you.
