Steak tip sandwich with grilled asparagus
    John S.

The service was great. Very nice lady. The price was ok but the portions are small except for the chicken tenders. The steak sandwich was marinated in so much Worcester sauce that it was all you could taste. The Texas toast was inedible as it had plenty of butter or oil but was soft and not crispy. The chicken tenders were good and the fries were homemade. The grilled asparagus was boiled to the point of being soggy and didn't have a grilled char. The salad was similar to what you might get at Golden Corral with lettuce, store bought shredded cheese, and tomatoes. The fried green beans were good. The corn was not fresh and was boiled to soggy before being grilled.

    Steak sandwich and steak fries.

After a 9:30 AM departure from the beach, we knew we would be somewhere in the south/central Alabama area for lunch. So when hunger hit, out comes the trusty Yelp app. We found ourselves in the town of Luverne and looking for a good bite, when that 5-star rating from Preston's could not be ignored. So we decided to stop in and test it out. Having grown up and around smaller towns for a big part of my life, the friendly smiles and welcoming attitude is something that is fairly standard in places like this. Preston's was no different. Great service throughout. And offering me a sweet tea to go at the end is always a nice cherry on top of an already friendly experience. Apparently, they are only open for lunch on Wednesdays. Lucky for us, that was when we were heading through. Their hours are a little sporadic, but I'm glad we were able to fall in one of those times slots. After reading some of the reviews and trusting my hunger instincts, the steak sandwich was what I decided on. No frills about this thing... but it was REALLY good. I don't know how many people have gotten a steak sandwich and everything falls apart because you are trying to chew through a tough piece of meat. That was not the case at all with this one. Extremely tender, well cooked, and well flavored strips of ribeye were covered with onions, cheese and blanketed by perfectly toasted pieces of sourdough bread. Nothing fancy, just good. The steak fries were pretty standard. Nothing over the top. But a great accompaniment to a fantastic sandwich. With beach trips happening annually and sometimes more, this is a great place to keep on our radar.

    Awesome hand cut steak!

Preston's Steak & Grill in Lucerne Alabama, "Friendlyest City in the South". Well worth the drive to come visit this local place. Awesome food and great service! Steaks are hand cut to order, delicious cooked perfect. Homemade pie was great to.

We saw the five star review and thought we had to stop to see what all the excitement was about. At 11:30 we were the only customers. We were greeted promptly and seated! Nice variety on the menu. Our gang stuck to barbecue sandwiches and fried chicken sandwich each came with a side. The wait for our food was confusing but it came hot and was tasty. The chicken was a winner over the barbecue. Table was a bit sticky and service was friendly.

Don't just drive thru Luverne on your way to the beach. Stop here and grab a bite. We had a huge perfectly done bacon cheeseburger, grilled Mahi- Mahi, grilled shrimp salad and rib eye sandwich all cooked on open wood fire. Delicious!! Cool atmosphere and the owners are fun and engaging.

Excellent meal, with upgraded hamburger steak, and fried okra. Definitely worth it if your in the area and or on your way to the beach.

We were driving through town and we were on a time limit. When we got there, they already had our order ready. They also gave us extra sauce, butter, and sour cream. One of the kids got a white chocolate cheesecake on a stick and he said it was wonderful. They also had some amazing sweet tea, which helped me stay awake for the drive. They had some humorous signs on the wall which we had to take photos of. The staff were great. This was a really nice place. Plenty of seating. None of us noticed that it was "different" than the same one we always order. My son ordered the wrong thing. We know that. The restaurant had a choice to make him another one for free or charge us for another one because he didn't like the sauce on the one he ordered. They chose to charge us. They took the complete potato we paid for and kept it. We paid for two of them and they took one back, only giving us one in the end. Due to this management decision we will never return as we have so many choices other than this. The fountain drinks were also messed up. At least give us the potato we paid for. Sometimes being a nice manager goes a long way and if you are going to charge someone then at the very least you should give them the potato they paid for back and they kept it. Stole it basically. I left a 15 percent tip on before hand because the credit card pulled up the option when we paid. I would have left "0". Ridiculous

So we had to eat before arriving on Friday (we had a late lunch at David's Catfish House and it was very good). On Saturday we drive out of town and found South Forty on our way back to Mobile. It was about 10:45 am and a little early for a burger, but after reading the reviews decided to go for it. Glad l did as it was in many ways as good or better than our favorite burger places in Mobile. So if you find yourself on the way to Monroeville stop in at South Forty, you will not be disappointed.

I wasafter I had sat down and ordered because she didn't want my service dog in the restaurant…read more She said they have the right to refuse service to anyone. I showed her my ADA card, and she went and called the owner who told her that he/she was going to post on their website that no animals are allowed including service animals. I told her that was illegal and they are breaking the law, and she became quite nasty and said "We have the right to refuse service to anyone." Again I attempted to educate her on the legalities regarding service animals and she said to me "Are you going to stop talking and listen to me?" When I asked to let us eat in peace and please get away from our table, she became irate and told us to leave that she was going to call the owner. I'm very well aware of my rights regarding my service animal and that she will hear from my attorney. As I was leaving and she had the owner on the phone, she then tried to tell us we didn't have to leave. After she had been rude, non compliant with federal laws, and called attention to my elder sister and I, staying was not conducive to her ugly attitude. She NOR the owner obviously seem to feel federal laws protecting people with disabilities apply to them. Perhaps a bit of insight will keep them from discriminating against someone else. I WILL indeed be contacting my attorney as well as the Justice Department, and the State of Alabama's ACLU. Under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), private businesses that serve the public must allow service dogs to accompany their handlers into all areas where customers are normally allowed. What Businesses Must Do Allow Access Everywhere: Service animals must be permitted in public areas, including restaurants, grocery stores, and hotels, overriding standard "no pets" or health department food-service rules. Treat Equally: Businesses cannot isolate customers with service dogs, charge extra fees, or demand pet deposits. Accept Only Dogs (and Miniature Horses): Under the federal ADA, only dogs (and in specific guidelines, miniature horses) trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability qualify as service animals. Emotional support animals are not protected. What Businesses Can Ask When it is not obvious what service the animal provides, staff may only ask two questions: Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff cannot ask about the person's disability, require medical documentation, require a special ID card or certification, or ask the dog to demonstrate its task. I called back at closing time to obtain the owner's name and phone number, she refused to give me either and told me I had to call back in the morning. She then proceeded to tell me "I'm the rude woman that spoke to you and when I once again attempted to explain that service dogs are protected by Article 3 of the American Disability Act, she started again arguing. At this point, I played the phone down and walked away not wanting to argue with her or to be rude and hang up on her. Its unfortunate that this lady feels she can not follow the laws she doesn't want to, and that the owner seems to feel their business is exempt from federal laws. Robyn Belknap 8/24/2026
