After seeing Pret a Manger on travel channel's Fast Foods Gone Global and my yelpfriend Scott S. checking in there in NY every day, I wondered what it was really like. This Pret location is on sort of a mezzanine level in Waterloo Station requiring stairs up because the escalator goes to the floor above it. We were impressed with the selection of sandwiches, salads, pastries, drinks, and snacks offered. For those who don't know, Pret a Manger means Ready to Eat in French. My mom loved the small bags of dried mango and the different snack bars. For breakfast I had mango and lime with a delicious green smoothie (see photo). I ended up trying a nori smoked salmon wrap at the Pret I visited in Paris, but heck, anything Asian-inspired gets me excited. The service here is very friendly and this would be great in any city Free wifi!

    Typical selection.

I got the large orange juice and coconut milk oatmeal. Which were both above average and vegan.

He had looked up restaurants that served a full English breakfast, and Kennington Lane Cafe was highly regarded, and it happened to be a few minutes away from our B&B. We loved our breakfast so much that we went back a second day. What I liked about the menu was that is was easy to create exactly what you wanted. You could order a set breakfast (and easily add on extra sides), or you could pick and choose what you wanted, and make the breakfast as small or as large as needed to match your appetite. The breakfast I created had a small steak, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and bubble and squeak. Delicious! I don't have an itemized bill of exactly what we ordered and the price of each item, but the totals on my credit card bill are £20.89 the first day and £20.50 the second day, and each bill included breakfast and coffee for two. Essentially, you can get a full breakfast for £10 -- a fantastic deal. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Poor and hungry?]

My friend and I stumbled across this cafe en route to an event and dropped in on our way home to try it. We both had a cup of herbal tea and I had a slice of cake. Staff were really friendly and it was a nice spot to spend an hour or so. The cafe also has various items for sale including plants, crockery, candles and kids items, however I found they were priced pretty high. This is why I dropped a star on my review as I found it was on the pricier side. Tea was £2 and a slice of cake/cupcake/pastry was £3. I did enjoy my tea and cake and the cake was homemade but it was a bit of a small portion to justify the £3 price. However I appreciate the vicinity of the cafe probably warrants the price and it is in quite a touristy area with the London Eye a 5 min walk away. The cafe has been there 4 months and it makes a change to visit a local business vs a chain cafe, hopefully it is here to stick around. So give it a go! Hopefully they will become a bit more generous with the portion sizes!!

Perfect seating area with electric fireplace, light jazz instrumentals, perfectly brewed tea and coffee, and just calming atmosphere. There isn't a huge sign that shouts where this place is, so I suggest you come and enjoy it before it gets too popular! This is truly a hidden gem and relaxing place to read a book, talk to friends, or just enjoy some time to yourself.
