We were planning on adopting a cat sometime this summer, when last week, I found out that the SPCA is reducing the adoption fees on older cats (not kittens) by 50% between May 25th and May 31st. So while we weren't planning on adopting a cat just yet, we decided to take advantage of the promotion this weekend -- it was the puuuurrrrfect opportunity! We had looked at the website ahead of time, and there were some cats that we were interested in, based on their description and appearance, but you really have to meet the cat before making a decision. At the SPCA, there were a couple that we liked (neither of which we had considered from the website), and in the end, we chose the oldest cat there, at ten years old. (According to his backstory, he was surrendered because a child in the family was allergic -- so sad that after ten years he was given away.) Not only is he old, but he's also really fat, at nearly 20 lbs! But he's a lovely cat, very friendly and affectionate, although a little shy. (So far, he's spent the majority of his time hiding under the couch or bed, but he purrs a lot and likes being pet, and he has come out a few times for cuddles.) While my husband and I had been discussing adopting a cat, and from where (SPCA, VOKRA, Cat Therapy & Rescue, etc), I was worried that it would be a huge hassle and that we would be rejected for some ridiculous reason. (VOKRA and Cat Therapy & Rescue seem a little intense -- I understand wanting to make sure that a cat goes to a good home, but good grief! Their rules and requirements are ridiculous!) However, we had no issues at all with the adoption at the SPCA. Once we decided on a cat, we filled out an application, a staff member asked us a few reasonable questions, as well as patiently answered all our questions about the cat, and it was done -- we had a kitty to take home! The cat's name was Seth Rogen, a name we hate (I don't even care for the actor), but it's wrong to change a cat's name when he's so old, so we tried calling him Seth. But the name just doesn't fit, and in the end, I'm calling him Beau, after Beau Nugget, an extremely obese cat whose weight loss journey can be watched on YouTube.

They butchered my dogs ear and instead of repairing his hematoma with buttons and stitches like I was told it would be, once we had him sedated and I was to leave my dog in their care, they instead chose to suture 12 tubes into his ear damaging perfectly healthy ear tissue and stitching entirely through his cartilage 24 times. Zero informed care and quite frankly, I receive better care and service advising from my mechanic. I was sent home post-op with no pain killers or meds to help my dogs recovery process and within 5 days of his surgery and 1 evening using the no flap wrap they insisted I put him in even with these gross tubes and sutures in place, he got an infection immediately. I was told there was nothing I could buy from them to help his bleeding sutures heal a bit, clearly they are unaware Otizole exists. I was provided the wrong type of medication for the site of his infection (clavaseptin instead of cefaseptin), and ultimately needed to bring my dog to a vet who actually knows what they're doing for surgical procedures and post-op care. After VVH operated on my dog, I called numerous vets in Vancouver/Burnaby area to talk to them about their hematoma repair process and NONE of them supported the procedure of stitching entirely through my dog's ear nor was it advised to have ever sent me home with zero pain meds or anti-inflammatories, or use a no flap wrap (I was told to buy one and put it on my dog immediately after his surgery) My original review was hidden by VVH likely due to the photos I attached with it which is truly comical considering their management noted surgery procedure was validated. Show the photos and full review if that's the case and stop hiding the work you're so clearly proud of and refuse to reimburse me for despite costing me $1600 in a botched hematoma repair PLUS a second surgery which I paid for at a different vet all together, and additional costs for gauze and a no flap wrap which I was told numerous times to buy and keep on my dog for 30 days. I'm lucky my dog didn't die from their malpractice and overall lack of care in our time of need.

What should have been a standard surgery turned into a two-month ordeal of physical suffering for my dog, Hebeh, and deep emotional distress for my entire family. 1. Medical Issues & Double Surgery: After paying $1,628 for a bite wound surgery, the site turned necrotic (dead tissue). A second veterinarian confirmed that the sutures were applied incorrectly, cutting off blood circulation. Because of this, my dog had to undergo a second surgery at another clinic to fix the issue. I ended up paying twice for a procedure that should have been done correctly the first time. 2. High Costs & Unnecessary Risks: When I returned for a drain removal, the clinic quoted $1,200-$1,500 and suggested general anesthesia. I went elsewhere, and the drain was removed safely without anesthesia for a fraction of the cost. They also charged over $200 for a "consultation" where nothing was done. 3. Lack of Accountability: When I reached out to management for an explanation, they were dismissive and unresponsive, eventually suggesting I file a complaint, and offered no refund. 4. Impact on My Family: Seeing the necrotic tissue on our dog was very upsetting for my 2-year-old child, my elderly mother, and my wife. The experience has caused significant stress for all of us. First, the urn was ridiculously oversized for a 3lb cat. Second, the engraving was crooked. Third, there were ugly flecks of gold paint all over the top. Finally, my last name was spelled incorrectly on the certificate. I was speechless and in tears. And because they had screwed the box closed, I couldn't even take the ashes out of the ugly urn. I returned the same evening asked for a refund. I wanted to take my kitty home, which was still an hour's drive back. They apologized, confirmed with the manager, and said the refund would be processed the next day. It was not processed the next day. In fact, I never heard from anyone. On the fifth day of waiting, I emailed them, demanding my refund the next day. I received the refund. But that wasn't the end. I stupidly took the manager's offer for a replacement urn. At the time of writing, it's three days late, and I'm too tired to write about the rest of the story. This is just a mere representation of my mental and emotional exhaustion and distress dealing with Pets Furever during a time of immense loss and grief.

My dog is a year and a half, and her hair had never been cut ever since she was born, and now it will take years for it to grow back after this. Not only did she cut the fur off, the cut itself was so extremely poor, I've had people ask me if I cut it myself. I posted the post-groom pictures on my Maltese group online, and the consensus was this person is not a "master groomer". Every single leg is cut different, her face is different on either side, there are scissor cuts left in the fur all over her body. She did have a top knot before the groom, and I told the groomer that I like to put it in a ponytail every single day, and she cut it so uneven and short that she herself had to put it into two ponytails because it's almost impossible to have it put into one ponytail with how it's cut. And to be clear, I handed over a dog that had ZERO knots or mats in her fur. I combed through her fur with a metal comb less than an hour before the groomer arrived. Completely devastating when I was so specific. Within minutes of meeting the groomer by her van, she told me that my dog was not a purebred (I have papers), that she had a blocked tear duct, and that her hair would never grow long. I brought her to the vet the next day because of course I was worried if she maybe she did have a blocked tear duct. A $90 veterinarian examination fee and five minutes later to be told her eyes are perfectly fine. And then there another $90 for another groom to have this absolutely terrible cut fixed. What a nightmare. If you're looking for a specific cut, while this person identifies as a "master groomer", the cut she gave she might as well be working at Petsmart, which is where most people thought I brought my dog to have her hair done. So in total, I have paid $358 to have my 5 pound dog trimmed. I also wonder if she is even an actual working groomer now. She showed up in a van that was completely smashed up on the side, and when I looked in her van, it looked more like storage than a place where a dog could be groomed. Never again. So ripped off.
