We chanced upon this restaurant on the first day that we arrived in Oslo. After travelling 12 hours on an airplane, we were starving and were craving for some good Italian food. We were just walking towards City Hall and spotted the Lunch menu by the pavement. If it weren't for the Lunch menu poster, we would have walked past this place. We were eyeing the menu when a waiter came out and answered some of our questions politely, without any pressure. We were in a group of 9 and they seated us at the back of the restaurant. Luckily it was about 3pm and the lunch crowd was over.
(The food was so good, that we stopped by again for a last farewell meal in Oslo some 3 weeks later!)
Verdict:
* Spaghetti Bolognese (KR149 for lunch) (had this the first time) - I always believe that to know if a restaurant is good, their skill/quality would show on the basic pastas and I was right. This was everything I loved in a good 'ole Bolognese with the pasta done al dente, sauce thick with juicy pieces of beef. Perfection.
* Tagliatelle allo Scoglio (KR179 for lunch) - My partner and friends had this the first time and I took a bite and fell in love. So, on our second vist there, I had to have this dish and it was delicious! The sauce is tomato-based with a hint of spiciness. The ingredients consisted fresh prawns (5 of them), mussels, and lobster. Add a bit of tobacco sauce if you want to up the spiciness (which I did!).
The service on our first visit was good but not sure why or how it came about that we have to add a tip of 20 KR to our meal (not sure if it was our tour guide that suggested we gave tips, as he was with us during that first visit). We were able to split the bill individually where the waiter came around and keyed in what we ordered to a portable credit card machine, and we added 20 KR extra. What was weird, was that the second time around, no such tipping was asked of us! Maybe because they knew there wasn't much service given on our second visit? Anyhow, I'd always thought these things were pretty much standard but it definitely won't deter me from recommending and visiting this restaurant again!
The outside may not be very fancy but with just plain glass windows of patrons dining inside, but as they say 'do not judge a book by its cover!' read more
