I was here not too long ago. Unfortunately, it was right after the Christmas, so it was jammed packed and the lines reminded me of the DMV on Alma in downtown SJ on a Saturday. We were however able to find anything and practically everything here. So much so that we had to buy luggage to carry the things we bought. Guys I know maybe for London Primark is nothing more than a wall mart, but in italy we don't have something like this. It is exciting to find in this store underwear simil burlesque, or dresses so cheap and trendy. You have to choose your style that it is always the matter, but here in Primark each time I come to London I buy so much stuff that they make my suitcase suffocate. I can assure that if you can choose the right dresses or shirts or accessorizes or underwear or whatever you please you make a good purchase for the right amount. I would probably have never come here had my luggage not been delayed for a few days on my trip to London. But I am (somewhat) glad it happened, as I'm pleased with the cute and outrageously cheap items I picked up, and because simply walking into the place is an experience. At midday on an average Tuesday, this place is comparable to an American mall on Black Friday. I've never seen anything like it, and I'd hate to imagine what it looks like a weekend. As it was, there were swarms of people, many of them trying on clothes in front of any available mirrored surface to avoid the fitting room lines, others loaded like camels with giant piles of clothing... pure chaos. As for the goods, I picked up enough clothing to last the trip and some fun accessories (why not?), all for practically a song. I suppose the real payment comes in the form of half-hour waits for a fitting room and mile-long lines at the checkout. In light of how expensive London tends to be, I'm mystified that this place offers better bargains than even notoriously bargain-o-licious American retailers like Target. And with better quality. Tells me all I need to know about how the stuff is likely being made. Nonethless, this place would make an absolute killing in the States. I'm sure the location of this particular store makes for sky-high sales, too. I'm not just referring to the Oxford Street area's global rep for shopping, though. I'm talking about competitive placement! Shocked and defeated by the £700 pairs of jeans on the upper floors of Selfridges? Well, Primark is across the street. No coincidence, I'm sure. And as other reviewers have mentioned, your secret is safe if you want it to be. I've gotten as many complements on the stuff I brought back from this place as I have for the items I bought inside Selfridges. And with the exception of the knit items, things have held up pretty well -- even the stuff I wear somewhat often. I'd go elsewhere if you're looking to add foundational pieces to your wardrobe. But it's great for picking up trendy-ish things that you might not wear all the time at justifiable prices. At a time when the pound sterling was mercilessly beating the dollar, I had certainly not planned to replace everything I'd packed for my trip. Primark is perhaps the mecca of cheap, chic and stylish clothes and accessories, but I hate it like I hate mayonnaise - which is a lot. A whole lot. When I go to a zoo, I want to see giraffes and zebras and a whole lot of cute monkeys, not people turned into wild animals by the vices of consumerism. I've NEVER seen a store so crowded before!!! It was pretty crazy...and hot. As one poster said, since the line to the fitting rooms were super long, people did try on clothes in the aisles, and that was really strange to see. But I'm sure it was faster than standing in line, for sure. Aside from all of the people, the clothes are ridiculously cheap and of great quality. Primark is not for the casual shopper. There are oh so many deals to be had here, but you'd better be prepared to sell a bit of your soul to get them. First, you can't be nice in Primark. If you're polite and let people go in front of you, you won't make it into the store. This is competitive shopping, not so much for the items, since there is just so much stuff in here, but for some personal space. Second, you get 8 items to take into the change room. The line is likely be long, so choose them wisely. Can you try something on over top of your clothes in the store? Then do it. You'll probably spend at least 10-15 minutes just waiting to get in to the change room, and you have to rejoin the line if you want to try another set of items. Third, it will be busy. Plan your route around the store as efficiently as possible to avoid unnecessarily fighting your way through crowds. The upper floor tends to be (slightly...) less crowded. That being said, if you can handle it, you'll come away with a bunch of stuff for awesome prices. I also hope they have a good mental health plan for their staff. The various floors of the Primark on the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street are much like the various circles of hell. The fitting rooms are surely the most fiery pits. My local-ish little location has been persistently out of leggings in any color other than black in my size. I knew it was a bad idea, but after a 2+ year hiatus, I decided I'd brave the giant Primark. Those £3 leggings are ridiculously comfortable under dresses in the colder months. Pushing my way past tourists, then past pre-teens drooling at the range of One Direction cosmetics, I searched for my stretch knit fashion hosiery. Clearly I had come in at the wrong end of the store. Working my way through the lingerie and pajama area I was shocked by a full wall of onesies (mostly of the animal variety) for adults. Seriously? Footie pajamas I can get behind, but cheapo animal onesies are not really something I want to lounge and/or sleep in. Antlers on a hood? No. Finally seeing a few racks of those shiny bastard stepchildren of proper leggings: the disco legging, I gained hope. Was my plain, solid shaded, cotton-based legwear finally to be found!? AHA! I see them! I see a rounder table covered in it'll-last-for-a-season leg coverings. But, then. NOOOOOO!!!!! Only black and that ridiculous electric blue in my size. Argh. I had a great shopping experience here! It is totally full of clothes everywhere:a great selection of womanswear,menswear,kidswear,accessories,shoes and housewear. Prices: really cheap but even here the quality is really good ! Clothes so as shoes last really lots of years :) I suggest you to go in the early morning 'cause is really full of people,more then at a concert and you can hardly move around the stands,so is kinda difficult if you decide the enter the sore during the peak hours,(after 5PM). While budgeting for my trip to London, I did not plan for any clothes shopping. But when I told my friends this, their jaws dropped. "How can you come to London and not buy clothes, Lorena! Haven't you heard of Primark and Top Shop???" I hadn't. But I'm glad they convinced me to give it a looksie. The place is huge, and with prices cheaper than Target I couldn't refuse myself a few things (more like a big bagful). Shopper Beware: It's a zoo in there and there is no concept of personal space in this store. You bump into and get bumped into a million times over in here. Let me begin by acknowledging that Primark clothing isn't likely to last more than a few washes. I know that, you know that, and we will have a much better relationship if we can move beyond it. I just visited Primark last month for the first time. I'd walked by it several times but just never had an urge to go inside since the throngs of people surrounding and within the structure seemed to be outrageous. Well, I finally got up the courage thanks to my friend Georgia who absolutely lives to shop at Primark. WOW. Just wow. How can they afford to make this stuff, ship it from Asia, and sell it in the UK for these prices? I am well aware of Economies of Scale, but seriously... jeans, sunglasses, and a shirt... all 3 for less than a meal in a pub. I do wish they would publish the country of origin on the items within their shops, but perhaps this is sort of like that American phrase, "plausible deniability." Whilst the staff at Primark seem pretty clueless, and the sheer volume of apparel on offer can make you dizzy, I find that shopping at Primark makes me happy on a certain level. I just love bargains. Real bargains. Some tips for the newbie: -Budget at least an hour, perhaps 90 minutes, on your first visit. This period of time will include your browsing, try-ons, and register queue. -Plan on spending no more than 40 quid. If you've spent more than 40 quid in one visit to Primark, you need the help of a true bargain shopper. You've picked up too many of their high-end low-end products and you should focus on the true savings. -Don't be discouraged if you can't decide which socks to buy. There are so many types from which to choose, you can buy all of your favourites. -The register queue may cause a slight panic attack, because you came to buy clothes, not stand in a 3-hour queue. Fear not! The queue moves swiftly thanks to the dozen or so cashiers. With these tips, I trust you will enjoy your first visit to Primark just as much as I did. If I were the regretful type, I'd be sad that I'd been overpaying for clothes for several years, but I'm not the regretful type. Super cheap dresses -just 3£ for a pair of black leggins- and many cheap accessorizes. You can't expect super good quality as the prices are ridiculos but you can find some good clothes. My problem with primark is the mess. Every thing is a mess. Too much people, too much clothes un-tidy, too much queuing. You want to try something in the fitting rooms? I'm sorry, but I think I might be in love with Primark. I hesitated to give it 4 stars, because I KNOW it's cheap and maybe some (ok, probably more than some) of their stuff's a bit trashy and I KNOW going in there can be reminiscent of the stampede scene from The Lion King...but my Primark peacoat that's gotten me TONS of compliments from friends and strangers alike and my bright pink pumps and all of my towels and sheets and 7 pairs of socks for £1 and and and...anyway, all of that tips me over to "Yay! I'm a fan." The store's tremendously crowded, so I end up getting pushed around a bit and sometimes literally stepped on while looking for a new pair of £2 shoes, but it's SO worth it. The store's a bit overwhelming and the clothes are not the greatest quality, but especially for basics (leggings, tights, black flats, socks!) it's perfect. And it feels so, so good to pick up a whole basket of items for under £20, especially if you've just been longingly window shopping at Selfridges or Topshop. Sure, it's crowded. Sure, you'll have to wait approximately forever if you want to get into a fitting room. But if you can tough it out (and learn to try things on over the clothes you're wearing) I think you'll find you'll emerge very victorious. I just avoid this mass fashion shop like a disease. It is the ultimate shopping hell on earth. Always always packed with people, bad quality clothes, queues, more people, and just piles of clothes with bright price adds all over the place. Yes it is cheap. But if you ask me it is still waste of money as this clothes are not made for last. Don't get fooled by the price campaign as the clothes are made saving costs at every stage, and after washing your clothes for the first time you usually beginning to notice. Everything is produced in truck loads, so there goes individuality as well! It is a well known fact that this store does not do absolutely no sourcing what so ever, so it means that buying clothes from here means just supporting the unethical and unfair trade. What else is there to say about this place? It was a mare going through the whole bit of it. Frankly, every Primark I went to while I was there (only 2, the other in Hammersmith which I quite like more) were absolutely traumatizing, yet because it is trendy and costs only a few quid on just about everything, it was worth every hour to wait in the changing room and another hour in the cash desk. Spending that Primark gwop! Haha! I honestly could not believe how much I abhor and adored this store at the same time. It was a lot more relaxing to have music on while shopping. Better yet, go there right when they open or an hour before they close. Or go to Hammersmith instead and you'll have a more pleasurable experience. Trust. read more

Well evidently everyone is hating on Primark - but I've got to confess - I'm a little bit addicted. I love it like one loves a verbally abusive boyfriend, who claims to love them and promises them the world, but really just treats them like dirt. Yeah, most of the stuff there is mass-produced, poorly-made rubbish, but look closer and you might just find a gem or two. I love their vests - and at £1.50 you really can't go wrong - and I've found them to wear as wear as most other brands. Other el-cheapo brands that is, not quality. It really is THE place to come for bedding, towels and all that house malarky that one needs but can't justify (or afford) to pay good money for after one has just payed rent and bond in a new house. I get lots of knickers here too, and have found them to be fine. Except those crazy super-frilly ones which lost their mind (and their stitching) after one go in the tumble dryer. Yes, shopping in the Oxford Street store drains me of my will to live, resulting in a minor nervous-breakdown everytime I step inside, but somehow it doesn't stop me visiting every couple of months when I'm feeling brave (and cheap). You must have a death wish if you come here on a weekend. But if you've got the time to make it down on a weekday morning, you should be A-OK. Primark is one of those places that just reminds me of ants swarming around a piece of gum on the sidewalk. It's chaos, people standing still in the aisles that you want to shove out the way, clothing thrown in piles on the floor, queues for the checkouts that go on for ages, but yet we all go here. Everyone loves a good bargain, don't deny it, if there were a parking lot outside I'm sure you'd find a few BMW's out there with some upscale professionals toting bags of throw blankets and bathroom accents into the trunk. The women's clothing is actually mildly cute, I wish I could say the same about the men's dept, it's all a bit lacking, but you can get dress shirts for 3 pounds, jackets for 12-20, you really could afford to throw them away after wearing them once. What always plagues my mind with discount wovens is that they fit like garbage bags, but Primark does a 'slim' fit in a few colors that actually isn't terrible. There's a time and a place for everything, and even if you don't want to admit it, there's a time for Primark. Cut the label out of the garment if you must, but it is always amusing when you see someone out in the same cheapass jacket as you and you both do 'the nod' that says "Yeah, I know your secret, let's just pretend these peacoats are from Mulberry and nobody will be the wiser." Don't let the pisspoor reviews fool you. I take it that the majority of the 1-2 star reviews are from locals. So imagine, fellow Americans, if you were to rate Costco or WalMart. I'm sure you don't think particularly highly of them...or maybe you do...but either way, here's my rationale for rating Primark as high as I did. (1) London is dangerously expensive (yeah, duh i know). Your credit score can easily drop a few hundred points if you give into temptation especially on Oxford Street. Primark can be your outlet, excuse the pun. Think store brand Vodka for a recovering alcoholic. (2) The clothes aren't bad looking. I'm sure they're the British equivalent of KMart clothes, but you don't necessarily know that and you're friends back in the USA certainly don't. Just tell them you got the new three piece suit on Oxford Street and you'll be considered upper middle class instantly. (3) What a zoo. I love it. Think Jingle All The Way, the movie--yup, the one with Arnold. It's mayhem, especially at XMas. But that's just stating the obvious. Don't even dare think about "popping in to see what they have" on a lunch break. Before you know it, you only have 5 minutes left to inhale your Pret sandwich. So the first thing I will say is that I went to Primark at 8:45 on a Wednesday morning, so I purposely avoided the Primark crazies my friends and others have complained about... On that note, I will say that my trip to Primark was totally worth it. I purchased sheets, towels, and pillows for very little which were items I didn't have room for in my suitcase on my way to London. Since I'll probably end up not taking them back to the states, Primark was the best place to purchase them. Since the clothes are very cheap and not of the best quality, this is NOT the place to go shopping for a new wardrobe. However, for girls it is a great place to purchase some going out skirts and dresses. If you're like me, I tend to only wear my going out items a few times before I want new things. Most of these items were around ten to twenty pounds, so I'm not dropping a ton of money and have to feel bad about something I'll only wear once or twice. read more

Yes, the store is huge and CROWDED, but the prices are very cheap and the clothes good quality for the price tag! I loved the selection and combing through the four levels of colorful goodies. One could quite easily get overwhelmed in here, especially on weekends when it's ridiculously crowded in here, but during weekday mornings it's still reasonably empty and you can spend quite a few hours looking for bargains. Primark is a somewhat hallowed place to shop if you need a seriously affordable skirt/shoes/pair of pants. When it opened up in London's Oxford Street, people were hit with mass hysteria. Seriously, you would think the Beatles had formed all over again. Girls were fainting, guys were just happy that they finally didn't have to spend over a fiver on a T-Shirt. So what's the fuss? I had imagined this store was going to be bigger and better than others around the UK. Sure, it's bigger, but it's still the same as any other Primark I've been to in my opinion. Cheap threads, pants for a pound. Denim Co tends to be the younger looking, slightly more garish duds, while Atmosphere can be tarted up to really do the job. Even though it's cheap, you can usually find something y'all will like in Primark. Recently, the prices have gone up but that just means it's nearly in line with extremely affordable H&M. The dresses in here are usually nice and I've found some nice tops, too. It's not the creme de la creme of haute couture but when money is tight Primark is your friend. I was put off by rumous they run sweatshops but I don't know if that was just hearsay. read more

On my recent trip to London, I was ready for expensive, expensive, expensive! But this department store that reminds me of H&M was quite the contrary. I'm sure once I converted everything to the dollar, it was still pricey, but not when you're in London! I made the mistake of coming to this place in the late afternoon. It looked like a flea market throng of people, but just indoors. They have a huge selection, all very trendy, fashionable, and surprisingly a little organized compared to how people were shopping. Things were thrown everywhere. I saw an employee gather clothes with one of those large horizontal brooms. I wonder why the employees even bother... I think if you don't come here in the mornings right when it opens, don't even bother with the fitting rooms. The line is long and the wait is ridiculous and supposedly it's just a huge room anyway. I just see people try stuff on over their clothes at mirrors all over the store. Just make sure you're dressed ready for this. I mistakenly wore an oversized shirt-dress and got it stuck in the zipper of another dress that I was trying on. I ended up with a small hole in my shirt. Bummer. I got some great shoes and a skirt. Remember, the sizes are UK, so us Americans will have to stop thinking we're damn skinny and face reality. The other slightly annoying thing was that I wanted to get the tax-refund receipt, but I was sent to customer service where I was served with another unsightly long line. Preferring vintage to high street and pretty much anything to anywhere with sweat shop intimations, I had not stepped foot inside a Primark store until its flagship shop opened on Oxford Street last year to much fanfare. No matter how cheap I can't get my head around Primark's clothes. Sure, you can pick up a synthetic, unflattering dress for a tenner or a pair of pants for the price of a can of coke but Primark's sartorial offerings always seem to leave me cold. I do however visit Primark if in need of some cheap bed linen. Their furnishings section offering a few 100% cotton duvet covers and sheets which cost about the same as most other high street retailer's poly-cotton monstrosities. read more

1. This Primark location causes me major anxiety! I had to give this location a lower rating due mostly to the seemingly dangerous conditions. They HAVE to be in violation of fire codes or something. There are probably about 1000 people in the store at any time. If there was an emergency it would turn in to a terrible situation! 2. There are SO many people you can hardly look through their stock nor walk through the aisles. 3. Waiting in line for a fitting room? Forget about it! Massive cues! 4. The cue to check out is at least 45 minutes long... anywhere in the store! But, I didn't totally cut them of pricing because of their costs! It's waaay cheap and the quality is decent. After discovering this chain while in Manchester during my 2010 trip I knew that I would end my 2011 one here. And boy was I right! I intended to only purchase a few work items: cute vests, tweed shorts and some fun tights....£109 later I had to add a carry on travel bag to that spree. Since I arrived at about 10am the place was empty and I had time to leisurely browse and try out all the clothes I intended to walk out with. I recommend this store to all my US friends. I always find the exact items that forever 21 and h&m sells but for half the price. Needless to say, months later I am still dreaming about this place and can't wait to head back there in the fall for yet another shopping spree. This time I will arrive in London (or Manchester or Liverpool) with a half filled suitcase and do my travel shopping while actually there. read more

Primark has helped me through dark times, when you need some retail therapy but only have £50 to your name and you can't really go on a major shopping spree... well at Primark you can £50 will take you a long way. I don't really shop there anymore, but although yes I agree the majority of their clothes don't last past a few months, I have clothes from Primark that are 2 years old and they are still alive and kicking :) If you need some emergency clothing Primark is great, or if you need some leggings or some accessories to only last you a day, then this is the place to visit. This store gets unbelievably busy, so I always try to go first thing in the morning to avoid the rush. If you go at rush hour don't think you can try things on in the changing rooms, the queue is longer than at Subway! you will have to wait at least 15mins to try your clothes on, and you can only take in 8 items at a time. Primark, Primark, Primark... probably one of the most hectic, craziest places I've been to on a weekend or even a week day. This place is insane, it's so crowded almost all the time and it doesn't get better throughout the day. One of the best things about Primark and why it is so packed, is because they have some of the best prices for some of the best clothes... in face I'm wearing a shirt i got there at this very moment and i believe it was only about 3 - 6 quid... for a shirt, you really can't beat that price. Just proceed with caution as it does get crowded to an extreme amount and people aren't the nicest when they are shopping so there is a bit of pushing and shoving in the mix, but all in all, the prices are just too good not to go. read more

Primark, oh how i miss thee! Fair warning coming in here you must be prepared for long lines, overwhelming amount of cute/cheap stuff, and just understand with the prices of course you aren't going to be getting the BEST material but hey it's not so bad, not at all. I'm the type of person that likes to just walk around and see if I'll get lucky and find something for the day. haha. I mean sometimes I don't really find anything but I have seen people walk out with BAGS of stuff and it always makes me jealous thinking man what did you find today? I'm always amazed by the shoe collection, the accessories and the amount of overcoats. WOW. I remember I bought a pair of shoes once for just £2! That's really something. I've gotten compliments for them back in the states too so hey it was £2 well spent :) and I really like them because they're quite comfortable and casual. I've only been to this Primark once and I was overwhelmed with HOW BIG it was and how CROWDED it gets. On a regular day it would look like a huge sale day there. You would think there would be a great big sale in Primark but it's their regular day prices. I usually go to the one in Brighton which is a little smaller, maybe even less touristy than the one in London. However, all in all in do love random trips to Primark :). Save a little bit of money and still look fashionable! read more

I have to say, I was here with Melissa C. and I still LOVE my purchases. I have two shirts that are still in good condition, one dress that has a tiny hole I just cover up with a cardigan, and red fake croc pumps that I only wear occasionally because my feet are no longer used to the pointy style. Oh! And if you're traveling and need some cheap lotion to get you through the trip, near the checkout they had a bottle of lotion for 50p or 1 pound, something like that. read more

Voted "Least Ethical Company" in the UK by Ethical Consumer magazine... why would you even step inside??? I don't care how cheap it is... come on people! Use discretion with your consumer votes. Desperate for rock bottom prices? Try a charity shop... guarantee you'll come away with a shirt or a dress or a pair of trousers for a few pounds that's better made and doesn't fling money into the coffers of this giant corporation that's too apathetic about people and the environment to even have a code of conduct regarding how it does business.... scary. read more

Primark is definitely worth a visit if you are in London! Inexpensive, huge, and lots of cute clothes, accessories, home ware, everything! We only had about 15 minutes to go through the store as it was closing. Ohhhh I am sad we did not have more time... read more
