I used to love Urban Outfitters. I discovered it about 12 years ago in San Francisco, and used to go in every time I went to visit my family there. Then I discovered that they were opening in London and went to the (at the time) flagship shop in Kensington and said 'the exchange rate says What?!?!'. Trust me, if you have ever thought that Urban Outfitters is a bit expensive in London, don't go to the States, cause it will piss you off. We are paying sometimes twice as much. But still, I loved the shop. It really did what it said on the box- provided an urban lifestyle. They guys could amuse themselves with the records while the girls shopped in the never ending rails of clothes. And I loved the clothes - I still do, kind of. I love the label Free People, their clothes are whimsical and gentle, and does pretty floaty tops that beg to be worn under a big chunky cardigan. I also love the graphic T's. Urban O was, in my opinion, one of the shops that kick started the trend of clothes looking like they came from thrift shops, carefully picked out, as if you were the only girl in the street wearing them. I guess Top Shop picked up and ran with the trend, but Urban O was the innovator. But now a lot of the clothes seem even more retro/thrifty/vintage. I get that this is the look of the London girl, but it seems that as the clothes look cheaper, they get more expensive. The graphic T's that I loved now cost up to £32.00 - I love The Pixies and Sonic Youth, but I don't want to pay that much to have their logo on my chest. I loove this place!!! Not just because of the clothes, which are very cool... More because of the atmosphere, the interior design, the books, the music and all the funny stuff they sell, which you don't really need but want to have when you see it ;) And this Urban Outfitters shop has a lot of this stuff, cause it has a little Urban Outfitters Home section Soo... all the cloth can be very expensive, up to over 100 Pounds. But all the funny stuff, the books and the music stuff have acceptable prices. And this store has a nice chill area with some sofas where you can sit and read all the books, you are interested in but don't want to buy ;) So if you like the style of urban outfitters you should definitely go to this store! read more

I had an awful experience here today. I was shopping around the sale with a friend and she put back a top she was considering on a pile of denim shorts. While I understand she should have put it back where it came from, the store is already a huge mess as a result of their big sale. As soon as she put it down, an employee with a long silver braid came running up and THREW the top on the floor after us and yelled "thanks a lot." It was so aggressive and shocking, we both left immediately. I hope she no longer works here (or anywhere). I'll be avoiding this location from now on. read more

Absolutely luuuuuuuv this shop since I spent nearly $300 in the one in Union Square in NYC back in March!!! It get four stars though because of the prices. £58 for a flimsy jersey dress? Are you serious? The dress was lovely don't get me wrong but £58? I wish I was able to fly over to the states to shop because everthing is half the price when you convert the currency. Unfortunately after shopping at Urban stores in New York, no Urban Outfitters stores quite cut it anymore but the flagship store on Oxford Street is as close as you'll get to the size and range of stores across the pond. The staff are all gorgeous (if you like something to look at other than clothes while you shop), fairly friendly and helpful and if you smile, bat your eyelashes and say 'pretty please' will probably give you the student discount even if you don't have any ID. The stores is spread over 4 floors menswear in the basement, womenswear on ground/1st, designer and sale stuff on 2nd and the whole place is always well stocked with a great selection of clothes meaning you can shop there without feeling you are walking out with the same t-shirt as every other person in there. The sale section is always well stocked with bargains so make sure you trek up to the top floor to have a rifle through it's nearly always worth it. read more

Tricky, tricky, I adore the jewellery, especially the quirky pendants and classic watches, even though I have to promise myself I'll wear them at least every other day to justify the expense. Unlike a lot of other high street stores Oxford Street branches, I never feel as if shopping here is throwing myself in the Lion's Pit. The store is well laid out and always feels roomy enough for a gander. However I have also heard numerous reports about UO stealing some of there designs from smaller designers which although this troubles me I have to admit I doubt it will stop me from shopping here, if Panorama failed to steer me away from the unethical drama that is Primark I think I'm a lost green cause. read more

The thing I like most about Urban Outfitters' Oxford Street store is that it feels like a rather quirky hybrid of a high street shop and a department store. Let me put it this way, Urban Outfitters is probably the most chilled place in Central London where you can buy coats for upwards of £400 if you're so inclined. I do confess that I usually skip the first two floors of Urban Outfitters, I simply can't feign interest this store's own brand designs rendered in tacky acrylics - as previous reviewers have noted - that are a bit too trendy in a popularly appealing way for their own good. If you want to browse interesting designer collections in an environment less alienating than some of this area's department stores I would recommend Urban Outfitters. A word to the wise though, if you spot something you like wait for the sales. Urban Outfitters sales may be a tad haphazard but by gosh are they worth waiting for. 75% discounts are not uncommon. Little did i know that i would soon be left alone wandering for my bag never to come in time like a orphan child left alone in the streets. The time had come for me to go to university and as i ran up and down the stairs, a sad look came upon my eyes each time, there would be no parcel. it was finally my time to leave. Love the music in this branch, and the layout is nice and spacious. It's generally busy, but feels a lot less cramped than the nearby Covent Garden branch. Although it is a small shop it is perfectly formed and has the most gorgeous clothes, accessories, etc. Its really easy to spend a lot of money in here so you better keep a tight reign on your wallet! they have some lovely unique items that are perfect for birthday or christmas presents or maybe you just want to treat yourself. overall its a great little shop but blink and you miss it! read more

Really liking this shop of the moment - it's cool, it's youthful, the clothes are all good quality and cool upcoming brands and the shop assistants are always really individual and really helpful. Also the music that they play is always wicked and you can buy the CDs at the desk if you like it that much (which I did!) and I love all the little non-clothes items that they have near the till, perfect for birthday presents and stocking fillers and stuff. ahhhh, Urban. How I heart thee...yet I never can afford to buy from you in bulk as I'd wish to... apart from the accessories, sale time or giftie poo's. Urb's neighbours high street giant Toppers but somehow stands her ground and comes off as the better one stop shop I think. She's large but doesn't overwhelm. Her ceilings are high, she has windows, something Topshop lacks on all womenswear floors. Her sweeping staircase makes you feel hip and cool and sort of homely at the same time. Bare brick walls feature fantastically merchandised outfits that would have Lexxi Chung Chungs weeping as she didn't think of them first. Dresses are always amazing but at the top end of the high street price range for its age market. And there is always the danger if you do plump for a pricey printed garm, you must just see if on a lot of other backs. When I purchase from here I stick to plainer, safer items as hate wearing the same as the whole of London in an obvious way. Cardi's are always ace in here. Shoes, not so much. But the designer floor, now the shoes that lurk up there (2nd floor) are the types to anger Mr Barclays but worth the bollocking he might give you. Well edited designs and designers scatter the floor, in a spaced out luxe feel. Uber chic. Urban's music is always banging and they sell what they play so you don't have to feel all loserish going 'what is this music you play' it's all here. Home-ware. I love it. Bit over priced but I buy it all the same. Perfect for gifts. Their cards and gift wrap are always worth a look too. Book wise, wait for the sales as amazon is waaay cheaper. But they are so tempting of a lunch break shop. Accessories, here lies my weakness. Necklaces, rings, watches, sunnies, belts, bags lined the whole store, waiting for you at every opportunity and you simply can not help but buy. Don't fight it, there's no point. This store is my one and only experience from the Urban Outfitters, so I don't know whether the grass is greener on the other side of the lake, but the unique and quirky look of the store and the mixed selection really did capture my attention. It is a fun shop to pop in as you know it is not a chain with stores in every corner so there actually exists a possibility to find something new. My favorite part is the designer collections ( you have to climb all the way up) as they have some labels that are rare thing to find from London, like Filippa K and Vanessa Bruno. BUT. As a design student I have just unsatisfactory grades regarding the collections of their own labels: knitwear made of acryl, poor quality, cheap looking, very high street designs.. This is a great men's and women's store for trendy yet quirky clothes. They even have small items and cards as gifts, which are quite retro making them very unique. The best part of this store which many may miss is right at the top corner of the third floor, the sale section for women, which always has masses of bargains. My girlfriend loves Urban Outfitters and is always in here grabbing armfuls of the stuff. I'm told it's quite reasonable for what you get, and it's cheaper in the States, where she buys even more. For blokes, it's a bit on the young nu rave side, but I guess I'm not the kind of demographic they are aiming at. The music always pumps out, and it's an okay place to hang out while I wait for her to stop shopping. There have some cool books on Japanese street style, which are worth a flick through. This shop is originally from America and they do great fashion. It's right on Oxford street and it has 3 floors. Great dresses, a good jeans range and nice men fashion too. They also do some interior stuff and trendy accessories. Very cool and friendly staff and the shop has a cool design. A bit different from all the other high street shops. read more

I would be a massive fan of Urban Outfitters but it is just too expensive. They do have some great quirky gift ideas and useful household items which are affordable but some of the clothes just have silly prices. Urban Outfitters always stock the best independent brands and smaller designers from the likes of BOY London, Silence & Noise The visual merchandising is such a joy to see, did you know each of the shelves, cabinets, clothing racks, tables, etc are handmade specifically for each store on site by UO's inhouse carpentry/design team? UO stocks womenswear, menswear, shoes, accessories, homewares, music and gifts, so there's always something for everyone. UO is too overpriced in the UK and is more affordable in the States, but I usually wait for their sales to grab a bargain. read more

I quite like this shop. I am usually there for the mens clothes and the do some times do quite funky and hip stuff. The price is reaonable and fairly affordable. I love shopping there as my girlfirned can look at the household and womesn stuff as well. I don't expect to be treated like a queen when shopping or anything but I do expect for employees to be nice to customers who are trying to give them their business. I buy clothes from here only if I really love because of the cost. However, some of the unusual household items are not badly priced and I tend to shop more for quirky gifts here than clothing. Absolutely terrible experience with a coat I purchased from this store. The merchandise was faulty, and after a month of chasing up my complaint with various customer services rep, one of whom accused me of lying about the coat even being from UO despite the clear labels and it being sold exclusively by OU, I was promised a refund or exchange by the manager of the Oxford shop. She promised to call me to arrange for this, but has failed to do so even after I sent her two emails following up. Their customer service is more a dis-service, they don't stand behind the quality of their merchandise even if it fails, and ignore customer complaints, presumably in the hope that the disgruntled customer will go away. Several of the customer service reps did not recognise their own merchandise, and I clearly do not appreciate being asked to prove that I bought an exclusive UO item from them. I will certainly avoid Urban Outfitters like the pest from now on, as I have never received such rude, unresponsive customer service, especially not in this price range. read more
