This school is awesome. I'm just gushing out how happy it makes me when I think of this place…read more I came here this past weekend for the Hands On Atlanta Discovery Program. The school facilities were pretty nice - walls decorated with school decorations and students' works. Very colorful setting that encouraged a safe space for learning. For a Saturday morning program, I was very impressed by the involvement and presence of the school administration. Teachers and the principal arrived on time, ready to engage with the students. Good teachers really don't get enough praise for their dedication. Students also arrived by school bus, which is a reliable and efficient way for students to get to a school program on the weekends - so cool! The thing that really topped it off for me was the diversity in the student population. The student body represents 31 different countries... yes THIRTY ONE countries. Most are children of refugees and come without an English background. You definitely would not be able to tell the latter because these kids were engaged throughout the program, displaying proficient in learning/comprehension. I am all for children growing up with diverse group of friends and learning cultural values early on in life. It's something that won't do harm in their future. S/o to Kenny because according to him, I'm the "same language as him." Awwwwww.

Attended here myself - HORRIBLE experience. If you are a girl of a darker persuasion with high…read moregrades, this is not the school for you. Expect the teachers to scream at you and make excuses to get you into trouble since they have the power to do it and won't like your kind. Debbie Leonard was one teacher. She tried to manipulate me into believing there was something wrong with me. Even as a child I knew she wasn't trying to "help" me. She then slandered me to the school counselor and sent me there. When we spoke, fortunately the counselor knew there was nothing wrong with me. Mrs. Leonard would yell at me and insult me often, while turning a blind eye to any child who mistreated me. The following year, she slandered me to Nancy Swan, my 5th grade teacher, who was even worse. She would SCREAM at me in front of the whole class. She would yell at me for weeks because I had a pencil case instead of a pencil pouch. I asked her why that even mattered, and she stuttered and said, "You're too old to have a pencil case." As if there's an age limit on stationary. And she was stuttering, because she knew she was lying. She, like Mrs. Leonard would find ways to get me into trouble and make stuff up to have an excuse to yell at me. I found notes in my folder of her trying to convince my mother that I needed to see a doctor, even though she was the one trying to bully a 10 year old. Oh, and Jennifer Klaas-Taylor, the gifted teacher? There were two plays: one on the Civil War, the other on Slavery. Since I was one of two children of "a darker persuasion", she had the lighter students put on darker make up for the slave play to make it look more "believable"! There's a term for that, you know. For the sake of avoiding triggers, it's putting BLACK makeup on your FACE!!! She then looked at me with the make up and said, "You're next." Ha, get it, because, you know, I'm already....? This place was horrible, and I don't miss it at all.

I see they somehow deleted my review from a few years ago…read more DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS "SCHOOL". The "teachers", incompetent. The facilities, piss poor. The principal, a money hungry, lying, conniving woman! The only reason my child went here is because someone convinced my son's mother that this awful establishment was a decent place for children to learn. Upon my first time dropping my son off, I got the impression it was everything but that. From their humble beginnings in an office park building they've managed to transfer to a new location with stolen funds all while falsely claiming to be a center of excellence. If they're so excellent, explain to me why one of their very own teachers couldn't discern between a noun and a verb. Explain why that same teacher didn't have an education license to save the school money. Also explain why that teacher was formerly a correction officer no more than 6 months prior with no prior education background. These are the individuals the principal are hiring to teach your kids. The principal herself is a joke. She's too scared to even have a face to face conversation about how terrible her staff is and threatened to call the cops on me for wanting to have a private face to face convo with her and one of her staff. Trust me, you'd be better off saving your money because you won't get the value for what you've spent when you could have sent your child to Georgia State for a year instead for what it cost to go to Philmore. You'll regret it and wish you'd taken heed. I beg of you, don't do it to yourself or to your child. I promised this woman I'd ruin her business and I will not stop until she's out of business! The post below is so she doesn't come on here lying as if she's never dealt with me before.
