I wish i could write a good review, and i would have... 6 months ago. I go audited by the IRS because of a W2 that Mario FORGOT to file (even though when I looked in the folder, there was a copy stapled to my return...and when i called to inquire, the receptionist noted that there was a copy in their folder as well. so it was purely an oversight). Mario is really nice, and the first 2 years (07 and 08) he did my taxes i had no problems, but my 09 taxes made me think that I should not return to them. He did my 2010 taxes at a discounted rate because of the severe screw up that is costing me $600, but I don't think i'll be returning for 2011. read more

I wish I had read YELP before using these clowns. I just got audited for my 2008 tax year due to a mistake that THEY caused. The IRS agent straight up said your accountant made a mistake and that is why we audited you. So I thought 'no problem', I'll call them and have them redo it. Nope. Cesar the son, who did my taxes, wouldn't return my calls and before I knew it my time ran out. Also they didn't admit that they made a mistake and at least refund the $180 it cost to use their jenky services. Find another place to get your taxes done. I was Audited by the IRS after lodging a return prepared by Anthony R Loya & Associates. When I received the Audit notice I immediately called Anthony R Loya & Associates and asked to speak to my Accountant ~ Cesar. He was busy so the receptionist asked me to fax the Audit papers through as they have a 'special' audit department ~ she added that I would be contacted within the next 24 hours and not to worry. Don't worry ~ 24 hours! How long does it take to call a client back? I prepared and faxed all the documents as requested and waited... and waited... three days later nothing! No calls, no messages, no emails no special audit department - flat line. I then called and emailed again to no avail. Stone walled ~ classy. I then checked the Yelp reviews on these guys and all hope was lost. I wish these guys had been reviewed on Yelp in 2008. Someone recommended them to me ~ terribly disappointed, steer clear. I too used and I say used instead of use Anthony Loya and was given the pleasure of an IRS Audit. Like other reviewers, the IRS agent told me that Anthony Loya had been red flagged and was the sole reason our taxes were examined. The first time we called, Mario, the so called accountant at Anthony Loya who prepared our taxes, he seemed helpful and said he could represent us at our initial tax appointment for an additional $200. He did go, but with none of the backup we provided. After the initial appointment, Mario became nearly impossible to reach either phone or email over the next year. He did not explain the process or what to expect moving forward. Finally we had no other choice but to request all of our tax papers back and go at it alone. We ended up settling for about 60% of what the IRS initially wanted, but in no thanks to Loya. I can't quite decide if Loya Tax Services is incompetent or shady in general, but either way stay away! read more

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! Tony prepared my taxes for years and what I thought was good advise and tax preparation turned out to be a very bad mistake. I received an IRS audit for 2008, 2009 and 2010. Turns out Tony was taking deductions I didn't qualify for. Next the Franchise Tax Board hit me with their audit and fines. Bottom line is I ended up owing over $10k in back taxes and penalties. They offered absolutely no support with my case. Google Anthony Loya and you'll find out that a Federal judge order him to cease operations in 2011. read more

Hey, my first one star review. Not sure what happened to these guys. My parents use them all the time and were always happy with them. Recently, things just seem to be going downhill. This year, they set all new lows in every category including, but not limited to: time taken to do a tax return, not responding to e-mails and calls, and leaving the automated 'office is closed' message on during business hours. Back in April, my parents sent Anthony their tax docs, thinking it should get done in a week or so. After close to two weeks they call in asking for a status. They claim they're missing some important docs. My parents know they sent those docs over, but don't want to make a big deal out of it and re-send. Skip to the Reader's Digest version...lots of back and forth where we'd call for an update and never hear back, or just get told, things are great, almost done, we'll call back in an hour (and of course do not) or we need this document that you already sent, please resend again. Finally gets done in July. Should have just went to H&R Block, they'll screw it up for cheaper and in a lot less time. One star since it's close to Porto's. Love those Porto's cheese rolls. read more

I didn't realize that these guys were taking deductions for me which were illegal and unethical but I got a refund and thought it was normal. Then came the audits, 3 in a row. And when I called Loya Tax Services, they were conveniently always too busy to represent me or help me answer to the IRS. They have been doing my taxes for two years now, and both times I've gone to them I have been so impressed by how fantastic the experience has been. I've come here for about 4 years despite the bad reviews. I was recommended here by some family and Danny.P is great. The filing process is fast I filed 3 forms at a good price for $95. They are a little misleading though at giving accurate information. They said I would not be charged again if I bring in a W-2 that I didn't file the first time and I can just drop it off and they'll send me the forms but that didn't happen. I was charged $15 but I'm fine with that. I just want to be sure of what's really going to happen. There was another time I called for an estimate and it was off. I feel that I'm also being ripped off because my refunds come out short so I have to read everything carefully still but that probably happens at most places. read more

First off, Mario caught several oversights made by H & R Block that could have gotten me an additional $500.00 (+) back on last years return. Me & my sister had an appointment about 2 weeks ago & felt the need to let everyone know how wonderful they are. It was our first year getting our taxes done with the Loya Family but definitely not our last. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile. The staff members treated us as if we were part of their family for years. We just got audited after using Loya Tax. Incidentally, this was for a tax year in which we had made them re-do our taxes once already because we caught so many mistakes. Not only did our accountant refuse to represent us in the audit, but he gave us terrible advice about how to handle it ourselves and then stopped returning our calls. The forms he offered to email us never arrived -- but we did get a flyer in the mail the next week to remind us to use them again this year. What a joke. read more

Worst experience I have ever had dealing with a tax service. Not only did they lose ALL my tax papers, the manager Silvia didn't even care or say sorry. It took them 3 weeks to figure out if they lost it or not, and they didn't even have the decency to call me, like Silvia said she would, to let me know they had been "lost". Apparently they are very consistent.....consistently incompetent. Mario is a liar. Told me everything will be fine and not to worry. They didn't even keep copies of my taxes, I later found many errors in the paperwork. When I got audited after following his advice, he advised me to ignore the auditor, not to even speak to her! Naturally the auditor got angry and opened up 5 new issues as a result. Mario said he would handle it, but of course he didn't, and it has become a nightmare, its costing me thousands of dollars to fix this with an attorney. No one returns phone calls ever. I too wish I had looked them up before using them, I don't know how they can stay in business. Wow. Amazing to see all these appropriately bad reviews ! We too had a horrible experience using Mario (at the recommendation of a co-worker). We were audited in 2007 and 2008 (luckily the only 2 years we had taxes filed by them), what hell we went through and they were NOT helpful in the least bit. Some of our itemized deductions were listed twice. If this place isn't red flagged then the sloppy and inaccurate work is a huge problem. Stay away at all costs. Just horrible. What's funny is i just get over the bad experience but they send me mailers every year and i get sick seeing them - so I came here to share the bad experience. Wish i had known years ago. I would pay someone to picket in front of the location for the tax season just as a public service !!! Still so pissed at them. I had a lot of financial issues last year and my sister talked me into seeing her tax prep person (who would have been motivated to find mistakes/ways to save money to encourage me to switch) - and they couldn't find a penny more. It's been my experience for over two decades that Tony has the highest level of integrity; perhaps people who are prompted to share do so when they have bad experiences, and-not-so-much when things go right?
