This is small town Texas in the middle of nowhere and you might see tumbleweeds blowing through here but don't let that bother you. It's nice and friendly and totally different to East Texas. On the way up to College Station from Houston, this is where I usually stop for gas because it's often cheaper than some of the other towns near here. This is a very interesting town out in the middle of nowhere in Texas and I've been here on a number of occasions - most recently when I was heading to College Station with Barbie as you can see from the pictures - and there's a bunch of rest stops here gas stations and whatnot. So in conclusion - You should drink water and sometimes juice or tea but Navasota.

Despite his flaws he is remembered as one of the most important founders of the State of Texas. Through agreements with the Mexican government Austin was granted permission to bring in settlers of merit: "families being industrious... and of good morals". The colony thrived due in part to Austin's ability as an administrator and diplomat bringing law and some semblance of order to the region. Such prosperity drew not only legitimate settlers who by and large accepted Mexican citizenship, but squatters and other unauthorized persons who just moved in and set up housekeeping as if they had a right to be there (surprise!) Continuing agitation among the various parties led to rabid discontent, revolution, and eventually the State of Texas. (I found the interwebs to be in general agreement on this)

This was a fun ghost tour. Super informative. Let's be honest Navasota has quite a history. From…read moreboom to bust this train town has it all. A once booming economy to a town filled with crime and rememberable historical characters. Lets not forget Frank Hamer the texas ranger who is credited with killing Bonnie snd Clyde was sent to Navasota to clean it up. In fact after the ghost tour we went to a beautiful speak easy by the hotel accross from the railroad tracks and I think it was named after Frank. Truth, I don't even believe in Ghosts. But I do believe in fun informative walking tours where i get to learn history. The lady leading the tour was informed and engaging. It was a fun, informative tour and After the soesk easy we had dinner at the Red Bourd restaurant. It's about an hour drive out of Houston. We live in the heights. They have some fun shops to peruse and we love the little bookstore in Navasota. So give it a try, it was a very fun Friday off for us. Also, I think this same lady has a haunted house behind the address listed above. We haven't been to it, however. Oh , oh, oh, around holloween the local theater company does cemetery tours. You meet your group and they walk you around to the different headstones. When you get to each grave site they have actors acting telling the stories of that person's life. We've been to that for about three years now. Super fun even!!!! It's called Lanterns and Ledends and is hosted by the Navasota Theater Alliance. Very fun happening!

This is a nice library. Looks new and is very clean and organized. We stopped by to use their…read morecomputers and to print out some documents. In order to do so we had to set up a membership. Carolyn helped us get that done super quick, and she was very pleasant and friendly. The membership was free and all that was required was a photo I'd proving our Texas residence. They had a good number of computers available, and each document cost 25 cents to print. I didn't explore much, but from where we were sitting but I could see a good size kids library area, several private rooms for studying or media use. They aren't huge as far as book selection, but they had a lot to choose from. They also have a DVD section and an audiobook section. Also there is a nice looking covered porch area with tables and chairs. It would be nice to sit out there during cooler weather.
